  1. Have you checked under the special tab in the options that afterburner by detent didn't get turned on? Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
  2. Something cool about the F-16 trim system that ED got right is that it doesn't trim like a conventional aircraft, but rather, it trims for G. With trim centered, the jet trims to hold 1G. Each click of elevator trim adjust the G the jet seeks by 0.1Gs. This is because any pilot input on the FLCS below 15AOA is a pure G request. I was pretty impressed with ED's flight modeling when I saw this. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
  3. Fun fact, A-10s can boresight their Mavs in flight on their element mates. I'd assume that boresighting is coming for all Mav shooters. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

  5. What's really cool is how well the viper performs in terms of its flight model. You can go out and do the HARTS maneuvers and the viper flies them by the book. The AOA limiter logic and G/trim modeling is spot on too. I guess some SMEs say the G onset rate can be quicker, but hopefully that gets worked on. Avionics is where the viper needs work. Things like the cursor bullseye system, fleshing out the HSD, improvements to the DLZ indications (that may need ED to model the AMRAAM's HPRF vs MPRF), the implementation of multiple nets for the L16, and of course some DED pages. What I find most worrisome about the Falcon's development is that it seems to me most DCS F-16 pilots lack a deep understanding of the systems to demand the same kind of fidelity and implementation that heatblur's customers demand of them -- which is understandable since a lot of the systems information, while not classified, is in limited circulation. My hope is that ED gets a VR training contract for the B course, whose IPs would demand correct symbology of avionics and systems. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
  6. Right on, thanks. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
  7. That's a move in the right direction, isn't it? Wasn't it over performing before? Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
  8. Hello, Are you filtering the datalink contacts out of your radar? Pushing IFF in or out will filter datalink to your radar (FCR PAGE). Look in the bottom left of the FCR it should say ALL, FTR+, TGTs. ALL is what you want for datalink contacts from AWACS. FTR+ gives you your flight's contacts, and TGTs is just your own ship radar returns. As a technique, several employment manuals talk about filtering down to TGTs or FTR+ at expected contact range, so you are only trying to lock stuff you should be able to actually lock with your radar. Good luck. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
  9. In the patch notes it mentions adding mass to the pylons, and AIM-9 drag -- does that mean that pylons only had drag previously and no mass? And as far as the AIM-9s, was drag added or reduced?
  10. In real datalink capable jets, you can switch off the GPS time, and manually enter another time. Doing this puts you on a network with other players on your net time. For example, you go out as a flight of 4, but you want #3 and #4 to be on a separate net because they will act as adversary jets / training aids. 3 & 4 would both manually enter a NET time 20 minutes in the future. Now they see one another on datalink, but have dropped off the net of all other blue players. Currently in DCS, you can change time to drop off the net, but going to another net time with your wingman never actually syncs up. As we get more and more 4th gen jets, something like this would be great. I guess another way to simulate this would be to allow players to switch coalitions at will via a kneeboard or comm menu.
  11. From preliminary testing yesterday, TGP not lining up with HUD TD box for CCRP happens when you input a new steerpoint but don't cycle away from and back to the steerpoint. That's the work around I'm doing for now to get it to register in the system. I'm not sure how it works with just going from snowplow to a point track for a CCRP delivery. Lots to figure out and sort out what may be bugged, or what may be working right. It's a good step forward though.
  12. Hummingbird, I do calculate drag index values and use the chart for what I'm doing; but I suspect most testers do not. The data that DCS has put out is using that best case scenario, lightest, cleanest jet... and I think people expect to see that kind of performance all the time. Dances
  13. Just an FYI to those currently testing the sustained and instant turn-rate of the viper, the drag index values in the HAF performance supplement for best performance are using a drag-index of 0 and a 22k pound jet (about 20% fuel). If you aren't testing like that, you won't get similar performance at all. Even just having missiles on the tip rails gives you a drag-index of 7, and it goes up really really quickly when you start hanging any pylons on there. The DCS viper does indeed seem to come pretty close to published data when using the right numbers to test turn performance. Reading EM diagrams isn't very intuitive either, it's not as straight forward as it seems. For those who think you should be able to "fight at 9Gs" -- that is a very fleeting moment. If you look at the published 9G line on the dog-house, you'll see that the Ps values are significantly negative and very far from the Ps=0 lines. That being said, I'm not a viper pilot, but I am a USAF pilot and I have a relatively decent grasp of this stuff. Are there problems with the DCS viper flight model? Yes, particularly when it comes to thrust (under-powered), and this is observed by high time viper instructors who, obviously, really know their vipers -- so let's hope that the viper flight model in DCS is still WIP and they are continuing to take input from their SMEs. There's also been a lot of talk about the viper vs hornet flight models. Should the Hornet be able to out-perform the Viper in a rate fight? Obviously not -- but the Hornet also gets a vote, and doesn't have to fight that fight. It does seem like the hornet is over-powered, or more likely the viper is under-powered currently, but maybe that will change. I'd be curious to see how people are dying to hornets in DCS -- I bet a lot of times it isn't because they are out-performed, but because they are falling victim to a BFM game plan. I don't want this thread to fall apart into something that gets closed by admins, but I thought it was important to talk about people's expectations in the viper vs what the charts say we can do (and the importance of knowing how to read those charts). Lastly, can someone turn up the position lights on the tanker? Dances
  14. I'm really hoping for cursor bullseye. The ability to target with raw data will make things so much easier in air to air. When we get that, we'll at least have a near-complete air to air jet.
  15. DataJack, One of the issues you are having with TWS, where the TMS right doesn't cycle between contacts, but just stays on one contact, happens when you hit TMS right with only one complete system file built. In that case, just go TMS aft once, let the radar sweep a few more times to build all the files, and go TMS right again. It doesn't seem to be able to add new built files to the sequence once you've hit TMS right -- it just ignores the upgraded tracks after you've pressed that button. As far as the ability to lock a contact at range -- it all depends on look up vs look down, and the aspect of the contact. I suspect human pilots in multiplayer are a lot more erratic (and thus changing aspect) than AI who bowling-ball towards you. If it helps to add another data-point, I fly against a lot of AI in multiplayer (PvE), and I'm able to lock flankers in a 10k look down scenario (I'm at 40k, they are at 30k) around 50nm, and shoot by 40nm -- doing this in both RWR and TWS. Cheers, Dances
  16. This was happening in our virtual squadron all the time, we realized it always happens between 30-40 minutes of being in the jet without taking off. It can also happen after you land and are sitting there in the jet with the engine running, so the time seems to be cumulative. For example, you sit on the ramp for 20 minutes briefing, go fly, and debrief for 20 minutes, you will get the failure.
  17. New Development.... all of his aircraft are disconnecting within about 10 minutes.
  18. My dad is having the same issue with time-outs between 6-11 minutes of joining a session. Interestingly, this only happens with ED modules like the F-5 and Viper -- in the community A-4, he doesn't time-out. Started happening after the last patch to open beta. So, he is an A-4 driver for now. Too bad, because he owns most modules and really enjoys flying them together in multiplayer.
  19. It seems like after the last hot-fix the position lights on the tankers are very dim. They were dim to begin with in the sim, and I find them now almost unusable. Is this something the developers are aware of? I'm sure it is related to recent improvements in night lighting. Does anyone know how to edit these effects? Cheers, Dances
  20. 5. El Strobe does not display changes in altitude scanned in FCR.
  21. Unpopular opinion.... Suspend work on the hornet, focus on the viper. #thesilentmajority
  22. Thanks Jag! Yeah, I am looking for a way to make this easier. It's not that it's terribly difficult, but it is harder than it shot be.
  23. Badlego, In a viper v viper engagement (human controlled jets), if the bandit targets you in STT, you will get the "Missile Launch" warning button flashing as soon as they shoot their fox-3. Once the missile goes active, then you get the "M" on the RWR scope. It sounds like your experience of how it is to get shot by an AMRAAM from a hornet is correct. Being shot by another viper is not. You can also test this against the AI with Tacview. If you shoot AI from STT lock, they will notch and chaff as soon as you shoot (even if you had them STT for 20 miles previous). So AI is also getting the "Missile Launch" warning. However, if you shoot from SAM mode, they don't react until the missile goes active (15km from them).
  24. How about duel target Track and cursor bullseye? Or the TGP tracking FCR targerts? Or the ability to have steerpoint offsets?
  25. Sierra, It's a 6K hour fighter guy asking me to figure out a way to turn up the lights. I was a tanker driver, and I remember them being brighter too. Anyway, some advice on how to mod the effect would be appreciated.
