  1. Not certain where I should post this, but I am sure the moderators will move to the correct thread! At TFC we discoveed a DVD video series called "Roaring Glory Warbirds". These have only been published in North America. What impressed us about the videos were that they were not just a historical record of the aircraft type, but a full description by current display pilots of walk-round, cockpit checks, and the flying characteristics, with many in-cockpit shots. Indeed, some of the aircraft are described and flown by Steve Hinton, who is one of our pilots at the annual Flying Legends Show. Aircraft types are A6M5 Zero, B-17, B-25, F4U Corsair, F6F Hellcat, P-38, P-40, P-47, P-51 (you can check against DCS P51D to see if we got it right!), TBM Avenger. TFC now has the exclusive worldwide rights to distribute outside of North America. You can review here: http://www.fighter-collection.com/media%20shop-video.html For those in North America see:- https://dssdvd.com/roaring-glory-warbirds

    Red Tails

I guess you can try it in DCS P51D
  4. According to a biography of a US Mustang pilot, when moving from another aircraft type (usually a P47), they were given 2 days to read the manual, then had a written and oral test (you better know all the engine and flight limits). Then your first flight in a P51!
  5. That is very good advice for those starting to learn how to take off.

  7. :-)
  8. Suggest post links to aerobatic and other videos here.
  9. For those with real life flying experience, of say a Cessna 172, you have horespower of 160 hp. Torque is not a big factor to worry about. The P51D has a horsepower @3000 rpm of 1490 hp, and at WEP (war emergency power) of 17,200 hp. Most of the thrust moves you forward, but some moves you to the left (for Merlin engines - opposite for Griffon Spits).
  10. When the P51D is released, for those who have only experienced flying jets, you are going to be surprised at the torque effect of a propeller! To avoid initial tears of frustration, I strongly advise that you set auto-rudder, and take off assistance mode. As you gain experience, you can unclick these options. Ideally you will have a set of pedals. If you are using a HOTAS to control rudder, careful set-up is required.

  12. It depends on the missions that will come with P51D. I doubt that they will include Su-27s. As Danish said, there are many current assets that simulate the 1944/45 free range hunting that was carried out by P51s. Who knows what other 2ndWW aircraft assets will become available from modders etc?
  13. Thank you - but no holiday for me, I am based at TFC, Duxford UK!
  14. Hi - you will get a reply on Monday - national holiday in Russia today!
  15. Try and look at the videos in http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/index.html There may be something that includes your needs.
  16. Golden rule: always turn into an attack.
  17. Actually, at TFC we do fly our aircraft to air shows to continental Europe without GPS in the cockpit. However, the pilots may have a pocket Garmin with them, but I'll have to ask them next week. I do know their flight planning is extremely detailed with maps/charts all over the pilot's ready room!
  18. For those interesting in buying the DVD, and seeing some footage of many 2ndWW aircraft, as well as the P51Ds:- http://www.planestv.com/shop/products/media/flying-legends-2011-duxford-official-dvd-or-blu-ray and http://www.flyingmachinestv.co.uk/DVD%20Store/DVDStore.html
  19. To confirm, ED is working on creating SDKs for third parties, including flight models. But it is taking time, and at the same we have to be working on new products. I do not think that if we made a post "DCS:XYZ has been delayed a year as we are creating SDKs" would be appreciated by the community!

    Flanker 2.5

Oh happy days! At the time I was i/c of European development at Mindscape/SSI. I had to convince the US Board of Directors of Mindscape/SSI that we should publish Flanker. "But we have never published a flight sim before and you want to publish a Russian aircraft, you must be mad! I got my way.
  21. I am sure that the Virtual Horsemen will be coming!
  22. Yes - been practicing that manoeuvre. Torque can be your friend.
  23. CAS in an area without strong ground threats or EA - i.e Afghanistan.
  24. My congratulations to all on the ADA team. I have had a very pleasant New Years day testing! Bravo Zulu Jim
