  1. Sorry - the map does not cover the new area that was added for A10c. No plans to re-print.
  2. I think the expression Cadillac of the skies first appeared in 1987 in the movie "Empire of the Sun" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092965/quotes
  3. Valley trip: Probably impossible in an F15, maintaining a height of 100 ft above the river. It is difficult enough in an A10C or P51D!
  4. In the UK, on Channel 5 tonight, in the series "Heroes of the Sky", the history of the Tuskegee pilots. Superb and fascinating! Tragically, the first pilot to do a check ride in a P51C crashed whilst doing a slow roll over the airfield. "He had not read his checklists thoroughly, it was forbidden to do aerobatics with a full rear fuel tank"
  5. Here is a fun sightseeing, which I often show at trade shows. Go to DZHVARI (GH43). Fly north across the lake. Then follow the valley with the river. The river splits into two, take either route. You then go to the top of the mountains, then fly down the streams on the other side. Challenge is to fly as low and as fast as possible. Be careful, too fast and you will not make the turn and auger into the side of the valley.
  6. At Duxford, for Spits, P51Ds etc we have a max limit of a cross-wind of 20 mph.
  7. Well done. That is life. It is tough in real life, if it was not every P51D in WW2 would have become an ace.
  8. Here is a hint, put clouds in the mission. It gives you a visual point of reference as to direction, both on take off and a 3 point landing.
  9. If you read the official P51D manuals, pilots were advised not to pull more than 4G to avoid black out. The average 20 year old pilot was not trained to resist the effect of G. The manual that covered P51Ds used in Korea, the advice was not to pull more than 6G with the early G suits they had. That is why the performance charts are based on 4G (and 6G for the Korean version). One must not confuse between a short instantaneous G pull, and a sustained G pull.
  10. Actually - the Duxford bumb is an "in-joke" amongst pilots to explain a bad landing! There is not one, the grass in that area he landed was a different colour!
  11. I have just checked on the French version. All will be translated EXCEPT the 600 page flight manual. It was too large a task.
  12. Interestingly, in testing, I ran out of fuel and managed to make a dead-stick landing in a field. I was very careful with vsi. The fields were in the north of the area. Maybe collision detection was not fully implemented in the area?
  13. Apologies for an update in English. We finished stand build tonight. We will be showing all FC2 aircraft on a 3D dome with a D-Box motion platorm. Variety of missions, but probably formation flying, and A2A guns only. Come and try it! Also showing on a laptop will be DCS P51D. Good to see "Check 6" team here.
  14. Please note - if you wish for mods to be available in Germany, you have to remove the swastika kill symbols on the cockpit side. Replace with iron crosses.
  15. On the subject of getting back to flying basics. Look at the air accident reports of the Air France crash. e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-18720915 Caused by pitot tubes freezing. All the pilot had to do was neutralise controls (he kept on pulling back). As I am sure you RL life pilots have been told in training - let the controls go, the a/c will fly S&L better than you can. Flight sims (even those costing $Ms) are great for procedure training. Nothing can simulate the RL experience, even those with 3D motion platforms.
  16. Nice flying! If you look at the 100s of 2ndWW gun camera videos available, they tended to fire at a closer range.
  17. Please note - for FC1, FC2, and the forthcoming FC3, you will need to have purchased Lock On. Suggest you wait for FC3.
  18. There is a very rare document if you can find it - "Pilot's Notes for Messerschmitt BF109". Try here: http://www.barbarossabooks.eu/pilots-notes-for-messerschmitt-bf109-p-8530.html It includes Allied analysis of captured E and G models.
  19. Yes - you are correct that in 1944/45 the majority version was the G. However, there were still E flying due to production constraints on manufacturing the G due to allied bombing. Interestingly, if you read the autobigraphies/biographies of German pilots, their favourite aircraft was the E. Less power, but more manoeuverable than the G. The FW190 was inferior above 20,000 ft, where most combat took place attacking B17s. But I would not worry too much, I am sure modders will be creating a G!
  20. Regarding P51 wing failures see http://www.ww2aircraft.net/forum/flight-test-data/p-51-problems-16995.html I have seen a report from an air accident 2ndWW Australian report (sorry - lost the link) where a P51 pilot was exploring how much G he could pull. The wings came off! Thereafter, pilots were told to keep to published limits! You will find them in the manual in the DOC folder. though you have to work out the limits for yourself, depending on GW.
  21. Wait for the final code of DCS:P51D. You will get visual cues, but no sound. The engine drowns out any sound that could be heard.
  22. Try this http://www.amazon.com/North-American-P-51-Mustang-Workshop/dp/184425870X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1344617354&sr=1-1&keywords=P51+Maintenance+manual
  23. The first title I published at Mirrorsoft was "Spitfire 40" on the C64 - on cassette, we did not have floppy disc drives then in the UK in 1983!
  24. Suggest you go to http://www.bruceair.com/ and watch the videos
  25. Yes - I too found that was sometimes a problem. You have to get the angle of the sun correct. Try it over the sea, is it any better? I have submitted on the wishlist that shadow should be stronger when aircraft is low.
