One easy (partly) fix would be to simply give us the option to use 2K textures. Especially for VR it wouldn´t decrease quality in any noticable way. It´s really a shame for an otherwise fun Helicopter.

Maybe placebo, but has the new fog also enhanced the clouds ? -Note I have only tested in VR.

DCS - 2025 and Beyond / Christmas Newsletter Wishlist.
fjacobsen replied to Dangerzone's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Most of the points have been talked about for years, and many of them have sounded as if we where close for them to be implementet. At least these bullet points has been talked about for serveral years, but still the answers are... Air Traffic Control -> ATC is something for the future. Vulkan Implementation -> Vulkan is in progress, no ETA to share yet. Dynamic Campaign Engine -> Dynamic campaign is a huge task. (probably meaning that we should not expect something the next comming year(s)). Data Transfer Cartridge -> DTC is in progress for the core of DCS, I hope we can share news soon. (I guess most want to hear news about this). I think many DCS players has come to a point where they rather want to see products being finished. Some moudules has now been in EA for 3-7 Years. On top of this core bugs and issues that has been out for a very long time seems more or less unattended (at least from a customers point of view) It is not because I find DCS to be bad, otherwise I would not spend so much time with it, but the backlog of unfinished items seems to be growing. So at some point You must consider if You want to put more money into new modules that will remain unfinished for the next comming years, or rather want to wait and se if developement catches up with investments You made years ago. I do know that DCS is in a special niche market. Flightsims cannot be compared to AAA games, but are mostly meant to be enhanced and progessly improved over a long time due to their complexity, but honestly patience also comes with a certain limit. Some modules has been in EA for up to 5 years - is that reasonable ? - I'm just asking. -
I have set IHADDS to to right eye only, cause that's the most realistic (Left eye, if that's Your most dominant eye). The calibrate it as described above.

The cockpit texture sizes are insane. This has been reported in the Bug section of the CH-47F by many. Some has reduced the texture sizes themselves, since regardless if this has been reported from the very first day of EA release, nothing has been done by the developers.
-
5 patches since release and no attempt by the devs to bring the crazy texture sizes down in order to lower VRAM footprint.

I have almost pre-ordered every module, be it Aircraft, Helicopters or Maps. This time though I will pass on and wait until it´s much more refined. Recently I got the Kola and Afghanistan map and the CH-47F, but I find all three of them too incomplete to also add an (most probably) incomplete Iraq map ontop of that. I know about Early Acces and what to expect, since as I told, I have done that with almost all addons and I own everything apart from the South Atlantic map, JF-17 and MBB-339. But for now I want to see how developement moves on for Kola, Afghanistan and CH-47F before investing more. The Razbam issue also comes on top of this, having all their Aircraft too. Also recent performance issues (flying almost entirely in VR) keeps me from putting more hard earned money into DCS. It´s not because I have lost faith in DCS, or want to be negative, but I just have reached a point where I want developement to catch up with my investment.

Patch on a monday ? Thats new
-
Radar map in the AH-64D is already implementet - Wags just had to follow up with a YT video showcasing it.
-
Yeah - almost a month since last (small) update.
-
Patches has been released thursday and friday before, but I also guess that holidays will have an effect too, so I don´t expect anything this week or the next.
-
Big Newy has not been around since friday - maybe holiday times.

The question here is not whether DCS was mad for VR or not or how DCS in general should run. The problem for those posting here, is that after the last few patches, performance has dropped quite a lot. So on the same systems that could run DCS very fine some patch cycles before what we have bow, both complex mission with many objects and in VR, are now unable to run it satisfactury.

I just wonder why the textures are so big from the outset. Most people probably don´t have 16GB+ GPU's I guess most customers want a flight simulator and not a screenshot generator. Seems to be a trend for the latest ED modules (Mi-24, AH-64D and CH-47F). Look at the Heatblur F-4E, the VRAM footprint for the Cockpit textures are much smaller and still it looks amazing.

I succeeded by making a non afterburner takeoff, but had to use some during the climb to 10.000 ft before going over Indian Springs City. The the rest of the mission I only used the afterburners for the drills where they where needed and only doing the drills once. I think I was down to 250 of fuel when parked.
-
@Reflected I tried a second and a third time, finally with succes at the last try I´m not sure, but this time I made certain that all the drills where performed near Quartzite and kept from drifting southward. I got all the right calls to get into position for the approach and has now progressed to the next mission.

@Reflected I am one if those who reported that I missed further instructions when reaching PIUTE. This report was in no way meant as critisism of the Campaign, but only a way seeking help on what I might have done wrong or what to expect. I don't now which situation actually will trigger the next instruction, and God thanks for that, cause that would be an immersion killer. I only flew this mission (Familisation mission 1) once and certainly will have to repeat this serveral times inorder to learn it indepth, so I only asked for help to get it right the next time. This Campaign is exactly what I have been looking for and so far I'm really pleased with what I have seen and learned - it is really immersive, educational and immersive at the same time - so kudos to Your work. But when I feel that I get stucked I also want to seek help from either You or the community without it bring taken down as critisism, cause it really isn't. I'm fully aware that You cannot safeguard the mission events for all deviations the player might make. So once again.... Thank You Reflected for this really great Campaign, giving us the oportunity to learn real life procedures. For what I have ween, this will definitly not be the last Campaign from You, that I will buy - lookimg forward to those available and those to come
-
@Reflected I did check out after doing those Eggs, and then was told to descend to 14.000 ft. I´m 90% sure that I reached CESAR, but maybe i missed PIUTE. With: "Those who don't hear anything at PIUTE, it's not a bug." do You mean that we shouldn´t expect to get further instructions, but has to execute the rest of the approach ti Indian Springs on our own ? - Just to know how to proceed, cause some backround knowledge about procedures must be known.

Does the Apache FCR require Open Beta and will not work in Stable?
fjacobsen replied to salsantana's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Do You unpin the FCR ? After selecting the FCR on one of the MFD's, You will get the Pie shaped FCR screen. Then presss the UTIL button ontop of the MFD. Unpin the Mastmounted Radar - pressing the right side MFD button (Cannot remember which of the right buttons). Press the left side button for Bypassing the Bit test (Cannot remeber the exact naming or the button). Unselect UTIL on the upper MFD button in order to return to the FCR "Pie" screen. Now select the FCR as Sight and do your sca (Single or contiously) -
Yeah when returning from the exercise I got no instructions when reaching waypoint PIUTE. Last altitude I was aksed to maintain was 14.000 ft and wasked if I was aware of Indiana Springs noise abandment procedures. I also ended up running out of fuel right over the Airbase,(and thus altitude and speed), but I probably shouldn´t have done 3 x 360° substained turns and 3 Eggs in full burner. So a small tip - look after Your fuel gauge ! Otherwise is it a very great Campaign so far - very immersive - so THX
-
I really thought it would be available with the last update. Looking forward to it - really. Sometime I wonder about ED's priorities.
-
Maybe the fix would be to have the option in the special menu for the Ch-47F to select reduced textures. This way the nice high res textures can be used in pancake mode for those with beefy systems, and the lower res used by low-mid level, as well as VR users. All being taken care of - all happy.
-
Maybe because they use different flight procedures . I don´t know, maybe it´s just because we don´t have the pants in the seat feedback You would get in a real helicopter when flying in a desktop sim. I was developer on a UH-1D for FSX many years ago, and as expert advisor, we had this German colonel, who had flown UH-1D's and NH90's. It´s not a critisism of the DCS Helicopter flight models, just a note from me, that VRS might be a tad too common, than what You would see IRL. RL Helicopter pilots are welcome to chime in here, I have no trouble to accept when I am wrong.
