reported ACLS F18 CPL Autopilot not working as intended....my fault ?
fjacobsen replied to Darkenmass's topic in Bugs and Problems
I have tried using ACLS, but once I engage it, it disengages shortly after. With gear down, full Flaps, ATC engaged On speed (Amber Donut), etsblished in the ICLS, I press CPL.... It engages, but despite both Lcalizer and Glideslope are aligned, it starts weaving and shortly after it disengages. I have set a rather high Deadzone for my stick, just to ensure that Stick input don´t interfer. -
It is a Danish movie (I´m Danish as a sidenote). It´s Ok, with some nice CGI parts of the Mosquito's, but the story feels incomplete. Also note that in the start of the movie, a scene where a Mosquito attacking a Danish civilian car, with Young people going to a wedding party, is shown. A scene I really can´t see any reason to include other than for extending the movie. Problem with that scene is that it did not happen in reality, and names of the pilot and navigator from the actual attack was used, of course causing protests from their Families. I think it has been changed afterwards, but nonetheless it was shown in Danish Cinema's. This makes me have a somewhat negative view on that movie - half baked content, with a unprofessional and unnecessary mishap, that shouldn´t have happened.

is there a point to the RHG LRFC trigger 1st Detent?
fjacobsen replied to imacken's topic in DCS: AH-64D
I guess in real life, only sending a short laser burst, might be good if the enemy has laser warning systems. I have set both the 1st and the 2nd detend for the laser. Ctrl + Button 4 on my stick for 1st detend Button 4 only for the 2nd detend. This way by simply pressing Button 4 I can Lase and guide Hellfire's. I then also have the TEDAC "STORE" button assigned to Ctrl + a differen button. Thus holding down Ctr and the press Button 4 I get the range, then immediatly press the TEDAC "STORE" sets a T0x target point where I ranged with the Laser. This works great for me, preparing LO and HI LOAL Hellfire shots. -
For the AH-64D You probably mere to lider the graphics settings. Try to set "Texture" to medium (not Terrain texture), lider "Preload Radius" et.
-
I also think that it is something going on with CPU utilisation rather than overloading the GPU. If it was lack of GPU power, then I would guess that I would see generally lower FPS then the 50 FPS I see when all runs fine. If it was due to too large texture load, then I would guess to see constant stuttering and low FPS. What I see is a sudden drop from otherwise good FPS, caused by something in the core game engine. If it was a graphics setting issue (too high settings), then a simple Alt-Tab out and into the game should not help. I kind of find raising tickets is like contact common It help desks - they simply recommend "Lower Your settings", "Update Your drivers", "Run a repair" or "There is someting wrong with Your system". I still have to see them acknowledge that some kind of bug is within the game. We can only hope that enough customers raise this issue for them to look into it more serious, or at least acknowledge that there could be a bug.
-
Regarding the sudden FPS drop in VR, that (sometimes) can be fixed by Alt-Tabbing out and back in again after 10-20 sec... I raised a ticket for this issue, but the only advice I got was to lower my graphics settings as this has helped others. Too high setings is certainly not the casue for this. When everything runs fine, with my present settings, I have around 50 fps in Caucasus, and all is smooth and fine. On the Syria map I get around 45 fps, which also is smooth. I think there is some kind of bug in the DCS engine that causes the FPS to drop from these 45-50 FPS down to 15 FPS, then Alt-Tabbing out and in again brings the FPS again. The simple fact that Alt-Tab can bring FPS back, clearly indicates that this is not due to too high Graphical settings. I think this should be a high priority to fix. I only see this with the Mi-24 Hind and AH-64D Apache.
-
Note that in order for the Tail Rotor to keep You on a steady heading, You need to add left pedal, which will push You sideways, which again requires some left cyclic.
-
I have the same issue as with the Hind... When I start I see 50 FPS with my Oculus Quest 2. But after a few minutes it drops to 15 FPS. Sometimes it will go back to 50 FPS after a while, other times not. Sometimes it can be fixed by Alt-Tabbing out to remove focus from DCS and the Alt-Tab back again. It´s really irittating, since it seems my computer can run DCS and the AH-64D quite well.

Please look at this Youtube video from Spudknocker for a workaround.

Thanks AdrianL for the hint. My VAICOM Documents folder still had the old User guide, so I downloaded the new one from the Vaicom homepage. Next issue was that alot of commands where missing in the profile. I created a new "VAICOM PRO for DCS World" profile and imported the new AIRIO 2.5.11 commands into the profile. Alot of commands where still missing ( I only has 590 or so commands). I whent into the VAICOM Editor tab and pressed TEST just above "Alias", and got a message that 560 (or so) aliasses where missing. The trick is to presh "FINISH" and all commands, including the missing aliasses are copied to the windows clipboard. Now go to VoiceAttack window and open Your Profile (VAICOM PRO for DCS World). Double click on one of the "AI Communication command" entries, like "*Abbeville Drucat * (Multipart)" - a new window appears where the text to the left of "When I say:" is highlighted. Delete all the text and press Ctrl+V to paste the clipboard content. Now press "OK" to close the window, press "Apply" and then "Done". Re-check for missing aliasses on the VAICOM panel "Editor" tab - "TEST" and there should be no missing aliasses and Your good to go. I must admit that I was so desperate that I bought a new set of Licenses, since I thought that they wheren't working and I couldn´t find the old Licens keys - my bad But for me VAICOM is priceless, since I play in VR and the immersion factor using Voice is so much higher.
-
Has the LANTIRN commands been added ? I cannot find anything in the new documentation. VAICOM v.2.5.26.0 AIRIO v.2.5.11.1 I deleted the old VAICOM PRO for DCS World.vap and let VAICOM build a new one, which I have imported.

In both the FCR Ground radar mode as well as the Litening Targeting Pod displays, tehre is an OSB called "Sightng Options". According to the manual, it should be possible to cycle between STP-TGT-OA1-OA2-RP-IP-AP, but it doesn´t seem to work correctly. I have seen it displayed as TGT and STP, but I cannot cycle pressing the OSB. With a target designated on the FCR Ground radar display, I can get the Litening Pod to slew to that area by pressing the OSB for Sighting option when it shows TGT.

I just tested the Jester AI for the LANTIRN, using an old maiison I had for human control of the LANTIRN. It work flawless... It´s very interesting to watch Jester search for targets and changing zoom and modes - very immersive. Good Job HB

@Stratrekmike...By calling it "guesswork" I didn´t mean purely guesswork. Offcourse senior pilots would feed newcomers with tactics and guides. The guides that where teached surely came from experiments and practice. But in the end the right moment to release the bombs most probably was just when it felt right. And still it wasn´t super precision bombing. The slightest misjudgement of altitude, speed, diveangle and release "picture", would mean that the bomb(s) would miss by a big margin. The most precise method was divebombing - the steeper the more precise it would be - theoretically. Skipbombing is not precision bombing as such. You release the bombe with the dropline towards the target. The bomb will skip on the surface - be it flat ground or wate,r and will hit and explode on the first obstacle it meets, which hopefully is the intended target. A delay is offcourse necessary for the aircraft to clear the bomb explosion.
-
Bombing in most WW2 aircraft are kind of guesswork. You simply need to practice and find a procedure that works the best for You. As long as we haven´t delay fuzes, bombing is best conducted while diving. Find a dive angle and start speed that suits You, then through practice, find the altitude at wich to drop with the right looke through the sight. For me a 20-30° dive starting at appr. 250 mph is a good starting point. Aiming the target between the middle and the lower edge of the sight. Then the last few seconds, let the target move towards the bottom edge of the sight and release the bombs just as the target disappear below the sight. I hope we will get delayed fuzes as soon as possible, since that is the best way to make precision bombing with the Mosquito. Still though.... Talking precision bombing in WW2 aircraft is something of a misnomer. Even the JU-87 Stuka wasn´t that precise and also required alot of skill, practice and luck.

Running Engines with Rich mixture, helps cool the engine due to the excessive amount of fuel. Running Lean (Weak) means less cooling and thus You can´t push the Engines as hard.
-
As You said Yourself... To lower fuel consumption on long range cruise - set it to Weak. Just note that the limits for Boost pressure and RPM are lower.

How to give radio command to Your wingmen
fjacobsen replied to fjacobsen's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
Thank You very much... I found that I had changed my audio device to a wrong setting in the sound options. -
I cannot figure out how to use the comms radio. Radio frequency for the flight is 124 Mhz, where Channel A is set to 124 Mhz. But sending commands to my wingman, like "Go Line Abreast", "RTB" etc. does nothing. The radio menu items are listed, but no pilot voice or wingman replies are heard. Maybe the comms radio is still WIP.

Comming in the Danish Cinema's 28. October. Telling the story of operation Carthage - the attack on Gestapos HQ in Copenhagen. The operation was only a partial success due to the sad tragedy that some of the Mosquitos also hit the French School. This happened because one of the Mosquito's crashed near the school making some of the other Mosquito's believe that this was the target. Nonetheless the Gestapo HQ was hit and most of the resistance people imprisoned there could flee and the archive about the Danish resistance was destroyed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yBnTjcAJDY

Th Hind is one of the performance heaviest aircraft in DCS. I guess this comes down to it having two cockpits, combined with the number of switches (Each mouse area has to be scanned for interaction). Thats also why the F-14 is heavier perforance wise. This also combined with the lower altitude in which the Hind operates, meaning that more ground detail has to be rendered. Since it´s early acces, some performance gains might come later on.

Expected Mossie performance vs current plane set
fjacobsen replied to Drakeshoot's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
I think the Mosquito should be regarded more as a Fighter bomber than a Fighter. I expect to use it for low level pinpoint bombing missions aka the missions it flew in reallife against Gestapo Headquarters and the like. It will also be good for interdiction missions. It can also be used for reconnaissance and weather intel, though such missions sounds boring in a combat flight sim enviroment. Fighter vs fighter engagemnts would mostly only occur as an defensive action when cought be surprice. -
I think they have changed their policy regarding announcing updates, and tht is good. It seems they wait to announce an update until they are quite sure that it is ready and not before. That takes the pressure of the developers and doesn´t create anger in the community - it´s ready when it´s ready. It´s better to wait a week or two, or even more, inorder to ensure that the update is as bugfree as possible.
