  1. Just for reference here; it is not the radioactivity of DU that is dangerous.
  2. Doubt it, FPS and simulation are at opposite ends of the scale :(
  3. I know what you mean Fudd, based on your sources I decided to look more into it (i've previously just heard media reports). Opinions tend to be very polarised and to be impartial is quite hard considering the campaigns waged by certain groups (Press vs Governmenal organisations). The sheer amount of Anti-DU sites online was staggering (and mostly all of them terribly edited lol). Apparently DU doesn't naturally accumulate well in the foodchain, and the majority of uranium taken into the body is got rid of by the body in several days. What you have to consider though is how many rounds are fired for each target - when you think how many are spread around the target site it can add up. Quite good reading here - although I am very wary of misinformation or exclusion of certain facts from organisations with an interest in presenting information on a topic: http://www.iaea.org/NewsCenter/Features/DU/du_qaa.shtml
  4. With all respect mate, is that what you would actually say?
  5. That'll be the day, but +1 with Sea Harrier FRS.2
  6. Dragon Rising has the same size map as ArmA2. I understand that the interaction between a guy with a laser and a guy in a Harrier can be great in Clan battles, but for the average person (me) it just seems a bit ludicrous. Artillery would be great to call in like you can in Steel Beasts, I just thought that it'd be a bit pointless to have a player manned 155mm Howitzer 10 miles away from the battle, firing blind. I think the features are great, don't get me wrong, but I don't really think even with 64 players that you can create a combined arms battlefield (unless you're in a clan that has trained set-peice manouvres for a long time). Flying a Harrier seems a bit odd seeing as the actual action all takes place over a tiny bit of terrain.
  7. Thanks for posting, sounds B-E-A-utiful
  8. Good link. I'm actually really looking forward to both games being released now, some good concepts there. Having looked at that i'm actually leaning more towards Dragon Rising. Honestly the problem I had with ArmA was that it just felt like OFP1 with updated Hollywood graphics and a poorly thought out, even more clichéd storyline. I know it's not a simulation but anybody with even a slight knowledge of military procedures (or just common sense) would have to give ArmA1 a HUGE AMOUNT of leeway in SP campaign (which was what I loved about OFP1, even though you still had to make a lot of allowances). Hopefully this means that OFP are concentrating less on the BF2/Xbox; 'I GET AN ARMED BLACKHAWK OMG WTF BBQ!!!' crowd, and more on the actual gameplay/balance. How can you create a balanced, semi-realistic battlefield on 225Km of terrain with attack aircraft included? And how can you have Playable Artillery? I think there's people that want lots of flyables [more ways to kill each other], and those that want less flyables/driveables but a more consistent game structure. Not saying either one's better, it's a personal preference. I'm after the footsoldier/tactics sim so i'd be happy if there were no driveables at all!
  9. Ha no dramas, see what you mean now mate :)
  10. I've been paying slight attention to both Dragon Rising and ArmA2 Good input Grodin, I played on OFP and loved it, actually I reinstalled it lately and finished it AGAIN! To be honest I thought that ArmA 1 was too arcadey (based on the footsoldier aspect - in OFP it got ridiculous once you got in an armed vehicle too), and was hoping that Dragon Rising was gonna be the holy grail of soldiering on the PC but it appears not..? So Dragon Rising is not going to be a 'soldier sim'? And in fact weill be less of one than ArmA2? Like I said, i've paid little attention and i'll never listen to the marketing on a game anyway because generally it's misinformation. Cheers for the heads up.
  11. I wasn't being off topic, it's the same principle really. 'How would you like DU being used on your land' is what it boils down to in the end. Inevitably the people that suffer don't have the choice..
  12. Now i'm no mathematician..
  13. Mangaroca, if you find anything good please can you PM me? Regards MM
  14. I could see that becoming VERY hated by the Taliban.
  15. I've removed a couple of asbestos rooves.. Duno how i'd feel if some foreigner fired them into a tank hiding in the hedgerow opposite my house though lol
  16. Hahaha
  17. Use search and add any NEW info to the existing post mate.. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=38727&highlight=vikhirs
  18. Good link mate and welcome to the forums! But you've mentioned the AI (have a search :S) and compared it to the logic system of an RPG. Duno where this discussion will lead but should be interesting :) CE_Mikemonster sat back in his chair. And lo, for it had begun..
  19. I have to admit i've never used any of the AP 'features' like this (including FD), apart from Turn on Target, and even then not very often. It seems that as a quite casual simmer the fairly unique ones like Descent Mode get forgotten (it's not mapped on my HOTAS) and fall by the wayside. I know that we should all fly the BS like the real pilots but I suppose unfortunately without the training we sort of slip into what we need, rather than what we should.. lol (Hope i'm not alone).
  20. I thought that for low flying/quick targeting without a WSO HMS would be essential? Slaving mavs, setting markers etc
  21. A-10 doesn't have a helmet mounted sight?
  22. Out of interest, what sort of HMS does the A-10C have and how 'good' is it?
  23. Spot the obvious error!
  24. What level are you at mate? The gf's just gone out to the pub so I could get my mic working, install TS and have a spin if you want? PS. This should all be in the Multiplayer section
