A good thought there MBot, though some might see that solution as unrealistic... just sayin' *iEDITin increasing the number of LoD layers (if that is the correct way to put it) might help too
-
@ haukka... sheesh, settle down sport... I was asking for an honest opinion
-
just curious here, but what would you have the sim do?
-
part of the problem, and only part of the problem haukka, is that a monitor is only a two dimensional surface onto which a three dimensional image is, basically, being projected onto and that screen is a fixed size... you could get to real life like view by using a narrow FoV but then, as you seem to understand already, is like flying in tunnel vision. There's no chance of any situational aware like event in the sim when using a narrow FoV, no simulated periphperal vision, so now to use a larger FoV to simulate that - what happens then is the image on screen starts doing a bowl effect (just like looking into the bottom of a bowl), it distorts because there is now more image to get onto that same size screen you were using for the narrow FoV. It needs to understood though, the sim is designed to a default medium FoV and moving to a narrower FoV, or to a wider FoV from the default is where the bowl like distortions come from... going narrow flattens the bowl and going wider deepens the bowl. the other, is this nasty nasty thing called "camouflage"... camouflaged things are meant to be hard to see. Why? because it makes them harder to blow up.

@ P*Funk... Could you clarify "Open ended statement about the dot not removing all complaints about not seeing stuff invites people inferring something from your statement." as I don't understand just what it is you're trying to communicate there?
-
@Pfunk... Could you be clearer on what you mean by "Then kindly articulate a whole thought and don't leave it open to interpretation. "?
-
@ HellToupee... http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2043195&postcount=88 If I understand correctly, The Wright Brothers weren't wealthy or Government funded... they just had a bicycle shop
-
lol, you're probably on the mark there... :) as for the rest... please don't put words into people's mouths
-
and that was dependent on what resolution/ monitor size was being run (also ran a, iirc, slightly different FoV value) and that sim also had more than it's fair share of "can't spot the dot" complaints
-
@Mbot... Yes, the labels bleeding through is a bug which could be well worth the fixing and the FoV/ resolution thing has been gone over and over so many times... 3 x monitors with a 20degree FoV on each (not 60degrees over the three, treating the three as one monitor) would be on the way to a partial solution but that solution leads to set of whole new problems

yes, the concept of the "Eureka Moment" - read the applicable post again I'll put that to you in this manner... successful WWII escapes from german Luft Stalags by Allies PoW's, though I wouldn't call that a "company" as you obviously mean a business/ commercial enterprise but it is an example of "desperation driven creativity". A tight budget isn't one of desperation, and in considering you explained earlier how a tight budget can work for the better..... well, all you have done is reword the same concept Nope... never said that

well there ya go... "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink" The point of all this? It should be easy to see why fractures occur within a community, and for reasons of; a refusal to see the other's point of view for one, a lack of full understanding of the situation in which the fracture forms for another, and a refusal to compromise for a third... by way of any of them or all of them to a varying degree.
-
well, I just did... now do you understand?
-
"Active Pause" being engaged somehow?
-
" ~ overcome technological limitations of the medium it runs on " yes, they have... its called "labels" - either that or have flashing neon arrows pointing to target (even then though, some still wouldn't be able to find them) Atalia has put it the best and clearest
-
learning by rote, doesn't do that... experiencing research, investigation does sorry, some things can only be explained by it being experienced (you can show someone a picture of a mountain and explain what a mountain is, but you can't explain, to an understanding, of what it is really like to be there... you can only describe it) yes, its creates ingenuity and its that which feeds a fertile condition for the moments...
-
no Scrim... that's what you're saying :music_whistling:
-
To answer that, you would need to understand the "eureka moment" and how that comes about... if you have to ask to understand, you wouldn't understand. Pyro... lets leave Foxconn (Wuhan) 2010 out of that

Actually, Scrim, as you said "the true roots"... that by definition goes back - right back to the beginning. You could do well to re-read my posts, because, no you weren't clear. Also, there are only certain eras, which can be developed to, whether a developer is forced to lock into an era or not, and they're the eras which different people have been calling for, as mentioned earlier Yes, Sobek - serious (and you're not "making a living", if you're not knowing how to pay next month's bills living in a state of anxiety... I said "a tight budget", not "living on a shoestring" or flat broke).
-
Scrim... the sim series is over 10 years old now, and "the sandbox" is a recent development along with newly developed modules. The sim just didn't start when you happened along. Chase the bucks ~ etc is utter bull?? sorry Scrim but anyone, even you, can see what I say there everywhere in everyday life... its a sad fact of life, and no-one is being "derogatory" to ED or TFC... they are very thoroughly respected - so please don't go putting words/ stances into peoples' mouths/ positions. A true creator isn't dollar driven, Scrim, though it is good to be able to make a living from doing what one does really enjoy doing. Throwing more bucks at something, isn't necessarily going to make it better or get it out quicker - in fact, it can do quite the opposite... one of the best situations for true creativity is a very tight budget.
-
@Scrim... the "true roots" originally only had a small handful of planes with which to fly... what was it 4 or 5, with the roots of the roots having even less and the "sandbox" thing only came about recently, whilst that started out as a playground. Usually, when people go chasing the bucks, quality loses out...
-
I'd ask if it was going to be made to DCS PFM quality and will there be a proper commercial aviation map to fly it on...

Different people have been calling out for different eras for quite a while now and it would be nice to have those eras. The Vietnam era, the Korea era, WWII with the European theatre being the various Fronts, plus the Pacific Theatre of Operations and the modern day era of Iraq and Afghanistan and of course SaR. Of notable comment in each place of the calling for, was the issue of intermingling of planes from different eras... and as much as some of us might not like this, it is going to happen regardless. As far as era maps go, its only early days yet and I do hope that focus isn't given to just planes... that would be fine for those who just want a 200 plane hanger but I feel DCS (the product) would be going down the wrong track in doing that - the sandbox does need to be "fleshed out" properly - stocked maps are a defined by the very nature of the sim, a necessity

There's another mob doing WW1. professional courtesy, and all that, to not cross over into the other realms?

Nice work... great for screen shots
