Test: Setting CPU Affinity
Wolf Rider replied to SkateZilla's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Alignment is only necessary for Windows XP, (as are a lot of other tweaks for, which did work then) as Windows 7/ 8 sorts that out as it is a SSD aware operating system and those which are "getting something" with Windows_7 or 8 and Setting CPU Affinity (the subject of the thread), really, are only getting a placebo effect. Having said that, a more responsive feeling desktop may be achieved. :) -

@ Doveman... silly I know, but test again using just a single monitor, no head tracker, Page File set to Windows Controlled, set the Eagle Dynamics Folder to have Full Permissions (Properties/ Security Tab/ User) -
I liked it too... no lag, no malware, no adverts, no overheating here

*just a bit of clarification... in the real world, we don't recognise "0" as a number, we see 0 as meaning nothing, zip, zilch, zero. Whereas in the computer world "0" is a number. So what we see as 1, 2, 3, 4 etc, the computer sees as 0, 1, 2, 3 etc -

24 = Cores 4 and 5 Honestly, the"ProcessAffinityMask=n" used to work back in the days when 4 Core Processors, complete with non-shared cache and Vista first came out and did work for a certain sim, a sim which was designed from the start as multicore aware. In that case the mask being set to 14 ( Cores 4, 3 and 2 leaving the Op Sys to hog Core 1, was the most effective). Things have changed since... and to be even more honest, people trying the same now with is only people chasing a placebo -
It was snowing for a while there too :)

Try not to run DCS through the VirtuMVP... DCS doesn't like it, it causes all sorts of slowdowns/ stutters and general sluggishness The idea of Core Parking is when Core 0 reaches 60% of use Core 1 kicks in. When Core 1 reaches 60% of use, Core 2 would kick in, etc, etc so, if the last Core for instance, isn't being used, it is "parked" and idling... just turn Core Parking off (registry key value) and all Cores run as one. (some BIOS on newer machines have the last 2 (on a 4 Core) for indicidual speed control for each core or the ability to run all cores as one. Sometimes the last two cores are set at a slightly lower speed if running in turbo boost/ speedstep) -

The 7b error is usually a file misplacement mashup involving a 64bit file being placed into a 32bit folder or vica-versa. You could try obtaining and runnning a small app named Dependency Walker to identify the misplaced file -
Complainng because I do not have the minimum amount of RAM

What helps is not installing the sim to the C:\ Program Files (Windows Vista/ 764bit), install to a directory (such as C:\ sims, which you create, for instance... or to a separate physical drive altogether) outside of the Program Files and also Installing as Administrator and setting the sim folder to have Full Permissions. -
The Exception Code indicates a memory problem
-
If you mean the Chrome Browser... why would you be running that as well as the sim ? which begs the question; what else have you got running?
-
Hmmm... I have windows 7_64bit on an SSD and the sim installed to a separate SSD... no stutters. SSD's are Intel 180Gb 520's (I also have Core Parking turned off... Core Parking, is not so much the "energy plan", but the percentage at which the next core kicks in. ie when core 0 hits 60%, Core 1 kicks in... http://ultimatecomputers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3644)

no, not really... its more up to, and beneficial, for the developers to get it right before delivery. There's been too much "hurry up and get it out the door (fix it in post')" from other developers of other genres.

Wolf Rider replied to USA_Recon's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I'm not too sure just as to what it is you think I am ignoring.... Is what I was saying earlier - thanks exactly right... except, the flash isn't constant - it is angle dependent... as you've suggested Which one, exactly? and is the camera stationary or moving? you see, there might be a mix up on here (?) between specular and diffused reflection. Matt paint will cause a diffused reflection, of which I believe you may be referring to, whilst a polished surface such as a window for instance will cause a specular reflection. -

You're talking about something different to the "glare" I meant, which is the bright flash of sunlight which is reflected off a surface into someone's eyes. It is angle (sunlight to object to eye) dependent. @DGC338... Nice read  -

sunlight reflecting (glare) is an isolated instance though, not a regular occurrence... -
Been down for a while but not that long... It seems I have an issue with the two TACAN channel selector knobs on the DCS World: A-10C tacan panel. I keep twisting the knobs around but the numbers (tens or ones) don't change, except on the very odd occasion. I've tried both drag and scroll Is there something I've forgotten? iEDIT found the thread... don't left click first (until fixed)

I've noticed with the latest release nVidia driver a bit (very slight) of the jittery problem was introduced (more noticeable when zoomed in onto the flight panel, rather than panning out over terrain but wasn't a game stopper in any sense)... the second of the two fixes you passed on from ED sorted that out Kuky. Thanks I was also reading that Windows 8 has changed the way it handles USB drivers, which may figure in somewhere as well

giving "Full Permissions" is different to "Running as Administrator" and from reading through the thread, only some are having a problem, not everyone. As for the windows File protection system associated with its Program Files folders, you would understand that some files are made Read Only and are not writable to, even under Run as Administrator and installed as Install as Administrator. There certainly is some anomaly there, what between different systems/ third party programs, Apps, etc and sim version but where that is exactly... Both TIR and the sim need to be installed at the same level and run at the same level and effectively both outside of the Windows Programs File folders
