You would think I'm getting paid by these guy... I wish, but I truly believe this is the future. Either way, I hope BW and I can help test this in Nthusim HMD to get it working correctly. The way the optics built, you have to have side side image and correction for lens curve, or it will look blurry. So you cannot use OR as your main monitor until a driver pops up to use it that way... which I'm suspecting there will be soon.

I'm all about Nthusim HMD if it can make this work... I also tend to agree with Metalnwood about how many new folks would join in the action. BTW, the Rift is like wearing Ski goggles, you can slip it up a bit to see... The Oculus Demo is pretty freaky in 3d , it feels weird because you can't see your hands for feet. The immersion is the best I have ever seen!

The keyboard is a non issue... That is why you have a Hotas. Oculus has the SDK out to code in head tracking and also help make the Sbs view with distortion correction. It is worth the trouble so a player can actually be in the cockpit. Everyone will be in awe anyhow just sitting in the cockpit with 1:1 tracking. Talk about new customers... Official support would gain more new customers then the last 2 years combined... Over 10,000 rifts sold and all are looking for a cockpit environment to use it in.

Ya, we need some internal help to get this thing working right... I'm kind of disappointed that after a PM, (ED) is not interested in supporting Oculus because you can't see the keyboard. In my opinion you don't understand the potential until you try it, seeing is believing. Money talks though, so if enough people show interest, then I'm sure support will added. I would speak up if you do have an interest to see Oculus rift officially supported.

Blind... na, the optics are built for this, and actually better for you then looking at your 2d flat lcd monitor all day. I've been testing rift demos for the past couple of days and I'm convinced that rift can provide the most realistic experience for DCS. The immersion factor is the cube x 5. Now, to get a perfect experience we need higher res panels, and Oculus knows this. At this point though, I would much rather fly in stero 3d with 1:1 headtracking then look at a 2d flat screen... everything else seems boring even with the screen door effect! I tested DCS sbs by adjusting the view ports which got me close, but in order to fully use OR in DCS we need a driver. There are adjustments that are required that I cannot do without distortion correct and IPD input. Lastly, headtracking 1:1 is awesome and works perfect in the demos, so hopefully soon there will be a way to integrate this in with the driver. Caution, the 800p panel is low res and you will have to zoom into the mfd's to see them, but the immersion factor making you feel like your actually sitting in the Aces II is well worth the sacrifice until we can get the 1080 or 4k panel. I was lucky a couple of days ago when a A-10C parked right next to our Sovereign in KAMA. I was even more lucky to sit in the cockpit for a bit... I ran a fake start flow to see what DCS-A10 has taught me and the A10 pilot said my flow was the same as his. Actually, he has seen DCS and said it was on the money. Back to the Rift, the initial testing gave me a feeling almost as good as sitting in the real pit. Closing statment... The Rift is mind blowing and I can't wait to see what the future brings! Happy Easter all

I have mine... I'll report later Opening Statement, this is the coolest thing I have ever experienced in gaming / simming!
-
I tested side by side view ports earlier... it should work fine, but need to interface head tracking. I wish there was a way to get positional tracking... Shoot, curious about how 3d will with the rift!

or buy a 3d printer and make your own...

I'm sure they will not sell to the public... military contractor only
-
Wags... I should have mine in the next week and a half, we can start testing!!!

I'm 123 in the order line... I hope it is shipped soon!

SU25-T - Flight is worse in Cold Air than Hot air
Flim replied to osram's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
You will have better performance in cold weather compared to hot... Engines like colder air as well... -
Looks good man, is the fps loss due to crossfire or 3 USB monitors connected?

I don't want everyone to think this is easy! It takes a lot of time to get it right... I have spent days tweaking, moving, adjusting, building, and then you will spend hours tweaking the PC trying to get the smoothest possible image. Imho, it will be a long long time before 1080p would work... first you need projectors with the throw of the gt750 at 16:10, if not... it will be very difficult to make it work. Second, you will have to run it all on one card, 2 cards causes image sync issues... lastly running 9900 x 1080 will not work on a single card. You can see there are many things to think about!
-
No matter what projector you use.... you will have to run 800p for performance! This is for a 4 or 5 projector setup...
-
Good job guys... Might try this as well!

Awesome, can't wait for the F-18!!

One thing with the gt750/720... your box dims have to be correct! I have spent a lot of time adjusting/rebuilding/fine tuning/and $$/ trying to get it right. Not only does Box dims need to be correct, but you need current hardware to run a full cube projection. Finally, I have successfully built a full 360 degree, (plus top view) running DCS smoothly with high settings and cruising at a constant 30 fps... I bought a 5th projector not knowing if it would work smoothly, but it now can be done! Again, thanks to Peter for loads of help and aiding in the build! I need to get some video out, but my Iphone will not do it justice... need to find a better camera.

You tested a rift?... Can you explain what kind of detail ( visual ) the cockpit looks like with the split res? Does it feel wrapped?
-
Ya, linden... you have some great progress and take a break! You will regret selling your stuff, because a few months later you will change your mind and it cost a lot of money in this hobby to change your mind! lol I have a new F-16 cockpit like before with ribs, and the A-10 which is a very similar style. Lastly I will have the F-18C in the future... The A-10 pit has cutouts for the Simmeter instruments which will be the quickest way to get flying. I have a new cnc coming anytime so I can start testing. I will make a new thread when the time comes... So Linden, hang in there... would love to see a few completed cockpits!

I'm working on some new kits...
-
Hey Linden, did you buy my first f16 pit? I can't remember...

7680x800

I thought about it as well, but decided on 2 gtx 670 4gb... running all settings on high 5 projectors, 1 helios screen and 40fps + in mission. I mostly needed the outputs and memory bandwidth, which can hold up DCS...

I hope they don't back off on the realism for the select aircraft... f-18/f-15/su27... That would be a bad move for ED to take the easy road, but I think they will do it right!
