  1. Great to hear! It would be nice if you'd put a link to the specific post with the version that worked for you, could be useful for others with similar issues in the future.
  2. You should have no problems making it work. The things you've been hearing/reading is that Free-track is not currently a 64bit application so it will have issues working with true 64bit games (which I'm only aware of DCS Warthog as the only one, but this has been solved using the dll-files mentioned in this thread). In summary: You should have no issues getting free-track to work. I've been using it in a 64bit system since 3 years and it has always been working great! Good luck!
  3. Try following the instructions in one of my previous posts: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1237193&postcount=32 The instructions assume you download the link called "HeadTracker Binaries.zip" in this post: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1234317&postcount=28 In short it consists of a lot of steps to get FreeTrack up and running, then keep it running in the background (I assume this is where you're at right now). Then follow the installation instructions contained in the "HeadTracker Binaries.zip" (direct link) Unzip the file so that headtracker.dll and headtracker.prefs end up at [DCS A-10C root folder]\bin\headtracker\. Start the game with FreeTrack running and active in the background and voilá, you should now have headtracking in the game (try running a quick mission or something). There are no other indiciations that it is running other than that it "just works".
  4. Is this still valid? I just reinstalled everything on another computer and with the latest drivers it seems I don't need to keep the control panel open any more. I shall double check this when I get home from work (might have left it open by old habit).
  5. I have played around a lot with FaceTrackNOIR and I never got it to work as well as FreeTrack does. On using any of these two in Black Shark I suppose you could use trackirfixer (I use it together with FreeTrack in Black Shark and it works well).
  6. Does the headtracker.dll-solution really work with DCS: Black Shark -- I'm not sure it does? At least when I tried it using samtheeagle's version together with FreeTrack I could not get it to work in Black Shark.
  7. That sounds like you are not locking the target properly. The "tracking either left or right" sounds like you activated the automatic scan feature of the Shkval. Try increasing/decreasing the target gate size?
  8. More Gripen! All pictures are from the Gripen official website (http://www.gripen.com). Sorry in advance for the large pictures, I hope you can stand them anyway ;). 9. There are pictures of how the real stick and collective are setup in the manual for DCS Black Shark. Have a look there. I made a (in my opinion) really good profile for the Extreme 3D Pro a while back, I'll see if I can find it using the search function -hint hint- ;). Update: I found my old(!) post with my old profile. Maybe something has changed with the profiling software since then but I guess you should be able to have a look at it at least. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=619181&postcount=5 Edit: I thought I could be nice and mention that I used button 11 as a modifier and that the profile assumes you have some kind of headtracking so that you can free up the hat on the stick for better uses :).
  10. I'd say it's perfectly doable, just don't expect to be able to play through the campaign or go online and be competetive (or actually able to complete anything but the simplest objectives). For procedures training and simple navigation practice I'd say it's still very playable and enjoyable. Only when I intend to actually play through a mission I get my HOTAS out, otherwise I just practice with the keyboard. I find the HOTAS a bit too big to keep lying around on the desktop all the time. That said, I still find headtracking extremely useful, as playing the game on keyboard is quite limiting - adding another limiting factor is almost too much ;).
  11. I think the main thing that a1adin is concerned about is that when Free-Track was used prior to the headtracker API was that it emulated Track-IR input (via "hacking" of newinput.dll - using trackirfixer), and as such showed as mappable axes in the controls menu. I understand that it is a popular feature to map leaning forwards and backwards to zoom functionality, but this in my opinion is stupid since you're loosing one of the coolest things ever - full 6dof cockpit! I believe that this is a legacy thing that since when there were really no sims with 6dof cockpit it made sense to map leaning to zoom, but now it really doesn't IMHO. With leaning forwards and backwards mapped to zoom you only have a 5 dof cockpit :P. If instead you were to map the view zoom to buttons or a separate axis you get both!
  12. Nice video. I appreciate effort in making it :)
  13. To use Free-Track as headtracking solution in DCS A-10C (or any other game that supports it, like Arma2 or whatever), you need the following things: Read the information available at http://www.free-track.net/english/ . Web camera (most work just fine, some don't work at all unfortunately, see the list at the Free-Track website). Some kind of filter to filter out visible light and only let IR light through to the web camera sensor. I used a developed negative 35mm camera film. A "point model", which is a holder for three infrared (IR) light-emitting diodes (LED) with the proper electrical supply (batteries, usb-connection or whatever you want to make). This you make by yourself using cheap parts available in electronic hardware stores, there are plenty of instructions and help in the Free-Track forums. I made mine using a regular baseball cap (http://forums.eagle.ru/album.php?albumid=315). The Free-Track software must be installed and configured. It should be running in the background when playing any games. samtheeagle's headtracker.dll (links in previous posts in this thread). Did I forget anything?
  14. Then tell so that people searching and finding this thread in the future can know .
  15. I was in the same situation. Had a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro stick and was deciding between a HOTAS and TrackIR. I tried building a Free-track cap and used it with my webcam in Black Shark and I was blown away by the immersion. Headtracking is in my humble opinion very important in flight sims. I'd find a way to get a well working headtracking solution before venturing into HOTAS-territory.
  16. You keep doing a great job! I wish I could help you with the issues with the 32-bit version but I'm not familiar with c++.
  17. Actually, it was first a bug and then introduced as a feature in one of the later patches to Black Shark.
  18. If that were the case, then headtracking would work anyway eh? Of course it'd be nice with a headtracker.dll solution for Black Shark as well but it is really a non-issue since there is already a working free-track solution for Black Shark. The obvious benefit of the headtracker.dll-solution is the avoidance of file alteration and semi-legal issues.
  19. I just tested with BlackShark and it doesn't seem to be working. I don't have time to perform an extensive test to determine why though. :( In the scripts/input/input.lua it still refers to the headtracker.dll in the location ./bin/headtracker/ so it's seems alright to put it there anyway samtheeagle.
  20. You can adjust the axes just as you would in Free-track previously. Only the bounds of the translational axes (X, Y, Z) might need to be adjusted in the headtracker.prefs file provided with the dll.
  21. It's very detailed but incredibly boring (imo). Nice realistic interface though ;)
  22. Other alternatives are Free-Track or FaceTrackNoIR. There are several threads in the Input and Output subforums http://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=96.
  23. I think he implies that most (not all) people that use 32bit do it because there has not been any free-track/facetracknoir alternative for the 64bit version. But since there now is, they will move to 64bit. :)
