Thanks JimMack, just put my order in...can't wait to get my hands on it

I finished it in the same way Connos did. Making good use of your wingman is the key, as you don't have the ammo to destroy all the targets yourself. I think from memory that some of the buildings have to be taken out for completion. Also, NVG are handy for the trip home

I've been playing through this and just wanted to say thanks to the mission designer and translators. It's very good!

Wow, that's some high praise from Ed Macy! When a real attack helo pilot with his experience says Black Shark is "absolutely phenomenal!" and the best sim he's seen, you know you're onto a good thing

Helmet-mounted sight - When/how often do you use it?
Chizzy101 replied to Jack McCoy's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I also use this technique and you can really devastate a group of soft targets in a very short time. -
I must also say that, for me at least, it has been extremely stable. I've been playing for several months now and I've never had a single crash. So many games are released and need to be patched several times after release due to instabilities...but not this gem  Having said that, I'm very much looking forward to the upcoming patch!

I'd like to see a Su-27, or an F-16. A high fidelity F-16 sim (with dynamic campaign) would draw a lot of the Falcon 4 players...although I'm guessing any high fidelity fixed wing sim will draw the falcon crowd.

Black Shark at dusk (warning: 32 edited pics!)
Chizzy101 replied to Jigsaw's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Very nice shots, Jigsaw...I really like the composition of some of the shots. You should be a photgrapher! -
G'day Hedgehog, I'd say that it will. According to the post linked below, it's possible to implement it in the current game engine, but they haven't done so yet. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=419038#post419038

The WWI aviation sim Rise of Flight, by NeoQB, is just about to enter beta testing. For those of you interested in being a beta tester, take a look at http://riseofflight.com/blogs.aspx?lang=en-US. This sim has been a long time in the making, but is looking very good!

POLL: Would you rather see A-10 or AH-64a as next module?
Chizzy101 replied to Sharkster64's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I'd love to see an A-10 at a similar level of detail as to what's been done with the Ka-50. I think it would be a very different experience than any other fixed wing sim and would be miles in front of the competition. My biggest concern with implementing the Apache (or any two seater for that matter) is how to handle the AI for the second seat. Yes, it would be great to fly it in multiplayer with two human crew, but what about single player/offline? At the level of detail that ED seem to be aiming for with DCS, I just can't see how anyone could fly and fight in an Apache in single player mode. I think AI for the second seat is a pretty big obstacle for any two seat aircraft in DCS... -
The Ka-50 is a high performance chopper and one of the distinctive features of the Ka-50 is it's coaxial rotor. I started to wonder why Kamov seem to be the only major designer currently producing helicopters in this configuation. After a bit of sniffing around on the web, it seems that coaxial rotors have several advantages over the conventional tail rotor layout, such as being quieter, safer (no risk of tail rotor failure), more compact and (theoretically) faster. The main disadvantage I see mentioned is the mechanical complexity of the coaxial rotor. Which makes me wonder, why don't we see more helicopters with a coaxial layout? Is the added engineering complexity really that much of an issue? Do helicopters with this layout have a higher incidence of problems with their main rotor? Are they much more expensive to maintain? I'm interested in your thoughts...

If he is using the mouse to look around, it might be a vertical sync issue. I don't think there is an option to force vertical sync on in the sim, however you can do it through your grahpics card panel or other graphics profile software like nhancer. It does cause a small performance hit.

Thanks Diveplane, very nice!

Heya BrassBud, glad to see you're enjoying the sim. To uncage the backup ADI you need to right-click on the bezel at the base of the ADI, and while holding down the right mouse button, scroll the mouse wheel up or down. You'll see the bezel spinning. Just make sure you've switched on the power to the standby ADI, otherwise it won't function. The throttles can't be moved by the mouse, you need to use page up and page down. Hit page up twice to bring the throttles to the standard position when you want to give power to the engines after a cold start.

Yep, the two inputs will be latitude and longitude. You enter the lat and long into the PVI 800 maually by reading them from the ABRIS flight plan. Make sure you get North/South and East/West right or your autopilot might try and fly to the other side of the globe (I got this wrong the first time I tried it and couldn't work out why I was going the wrong way!). It's a bit hard to explain on the forum, the best option is to check out the relevant section in the manual and also take a look at the navigation videos in the producer's notes sticky. Hope you get it sorted out

Sounds to me like the helo isn't trimmed properly for a hover. You pretty much have to have it trimmed so that it holds a hover with your hand off the cyclic and be at a very low speed before engaging the auto hover for it to be stable. When you get to a low speed there will be a vector line pop up on the HUD (assuming you don't have a weapon selected), which I find really useful for getting into a good hover attitude. Try and get that line as short as possible and hold it steady, then trim and engage the auto hover. Once in a steady auto hover you can update the position by quickly tapping the trim, which can be handy.

The autopilot can't fly a route that is in the ABRIS, you'll need to enter the route into the PVI 800 inertial navigation system. Once you've programmed the route into the INS you can then hit route mode and the autopilot will follow the waypoints you've entered. From memory the INS can save up to 6 waypoints, where as the ABRIS can hold a lot more, so keep that in mind if you're flight plan has a lot of steer points

G'day Munny, Glad to see you are enjoying Black Shark, it really is a great sim. Yes, shift + P will toggle the pilot on and off. I think that warning light is the low rotor speed light, starts to flash when your rotor rpm drops to a dangerous level. You can scroll the ABRIS using the ERBL cursor. Get the ABRIS on the map mode, then hit the ERBL button. A red cursor will pop up which you can scroll around using the rotary dial on the bottom right side of the ABRIS. There may be a better way of scrolling, but this works for me. Sorry, but can't help you out with target recognition...I've put more that a few rounds into friendly ground forces too :music_whistling: P.S. As a hog driver, you'll be pleased to know that the next planned module for DCS is the A-10 C. Really looking forward to that one!

What is the gauge on the inside roof?
Chizzy101 replied to Ramstein's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Thanks REL, that one had me puzzled too. -
I think this hits the nail on the head. I read somewhere that there are less than 20 Ka-50's in service. Had the Ka-50 been ordered on the same scale as the Mil Mi-28, I'm sure the production aircraft would have been equipped with a RWR. There just aren't many Ka-50's as it's not the Russian Army's preferred gunship.

Very handy to know, thanks eV1Te! :)

New Mission - Command Center Down
Chizzy101 replied to ronht's topic in User Created Missions General
Thanks for this mission, it's a lot of fun! The first time I rolled in there and had SAM's buzzing around like flies! It encourages good use of data link/wingman too if you want to economise on missile use. -
What an excellent piece of software, this tool is really useful for reviewing flights and engagements. Thanks so much for bringing this up!

Should I buy: Logitech , Saitek or Thrustmaster ?
Chizzy101 replied to jib's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'd stay away from the logitech stick Jib. I purchased one a couple of years ago and the potentiometers started playing up within a month. I took it back to be replaced...same thing happened. Replaced it again and the next one did the same thing...all failed within 4-6 weeks. I pulled the last one apart to see if I could replace them myself and the components looked very cheap and nasty. I currently use a CH stick and Saitek pedals. I've had both for quite a while with no problems at all.
