I would be interested to see what someone else thinks about the smoothness between Track IR and Cachya running side by side as well. All I know is that I have been running Cachya for a few months now and I went to a friends house and tried his Track IR. My setup was running pretty smooth, and to me, TrackIR seemed to run just as smooth,(other than the problem I was having with my glasses screwing up the tracking every now and then). Here is a scenario. You land at a FARP and look to your left out the door. You see the maintenance crew chief giving a thumbs up and starts walking towards your helo. You watch out your window as he plugs into the chopper. You then relay commands to him for refueling/rearming. You watch the rest of the ground crew hook up weapons and a refueling hose. Then for shits and giggles, you accidentally start taking off and the maintenance guy plugged into your aircraft screams out, "what the hell are you doing man". At the same time you see him yelling at you and all the maintenance guys backing away from the chopper until you settle down again. Then you see them coming back into work again. Then when they are done you see them backing away from the helo. You then switch your comms back to radio and the crew chief unhooks and goes to the front of the chopper just off the pad and gives you the signal all clear. I think that this would be an awesome add on to this sim. It would give you something to watch as your waiting for fuel and weapons. Otherwise, i'm just twiddling my thumbs waiting for the weapons. Sure would add to the realism factor. :thumbup:

I'm with you Coder. I have had no drain on performance with my system using cachya. If I were to buy TrackIR i'm sure I would get similar performance. I don't see the need to get any smoother head tracking with Track IR since I already have great performance with Cachya. I guess some people however, with lower end systems, might get a cpu drain using the camera software and might want to use Track IR instead. But I would say that if you have a very good system already, and you don't want to spend the money, or the time putting together some kind of Wiimote setup, give Cachya a try. It's only $15.

I am certainly for this. There is much more to flying than flying in the air. You have to get there as well. Part of flying would be to make sure the area is clear before taking off. I think that this should definitely be implemented in the game. Rep inbound for this poll. :thumbup:

I used to be in the artillery, and what I learned about a 105mm artillery shell is that it has a 40m kill radius. Anything within 40 meters of the point of impact is either dead by shrapnel or their lungs evaporate from the explosion. It also has a 600m danger zone. Anything within 600m from the point of impact is in danger of getting hit by shrapnel. I was on the range watching a round impact from around 1500m away. I was impressed at how fast shrapnel was hitting the ground at around 600m away from the impact point. It seemed almost instantaneous. I could see lots of pufts of dust rising from the ground as far as around 600m. I was impressed by the amount of shrapnel being unloaded by that artillery round. Now these are all specs for a 105mm artillery round. A bomb is much larger and has a lot more explosives packed into it. I could only imagine what the kill radius and the danger radius is on a bomb dropped from the Ka-50. That is why they have a minimum safe altitude for dropping bombs. I'm surprised the minimum safe altitude isn't higher.

I spent $15. If it doesn't work or if it stops working after a while, oh well, it's only $15. At that price, I could care less if it is under warranty. That is the only reason I tried it. It cost the same as going to a movie these days. If it gave me just one days enjoyment, I'd be happy. But, it has given me 3 months of enjoyment. :thumbup: If I were to buy Track IR for $130, then yes, I would expect a warranty and the whole nine yards. So I totally agree with you on that note Redeye. At least we have Head Tracking Software, that is all that matters. :joystick:

That is exactly what I meant about tweaking. Setting up Cachya is a breeze and only takes a minute. It is the same as setting up a joystick. All you have to do is set up which axis is used for what input. The tweaking is all just setting up sensitivites and curves. I totally agree with you Safari about everyone is happy with what they have experienced. I am in no way saying that Track IR is bad. I just think its nice to have a cheaper alternative. You don't really HAVE to tweak cachya either. I have heard of plenty of people having to tweak Track IR. For $150 I would expect you not having to tweak it. Spending a couple hours of tweaking my cheaper alternative, is not a reason for me to go and buy Track IR. Apparently if you wear glasses, you have to tweak Track IR. I wear glasses, so if I am tweaking both alternatives, I would rather go with the cheaper alternative. The end result was awesome. I wouldn't say that tweaking my setup and taking a couple hours to do that is a real issue. I had fun doing it. To each their own. There is another thread right now, talking about the view centering after so long with Track IR. I wouldn't call that a very good review either. That is certainly not an issue with Cachya. One persons opinion certainly isn't everyones opinion. Goes for both setups.

We could have this argument back and forth until we are blue in the face, but at the end of the day we will still believe what each other has experienced. Polecat, you have never tried Cachya, so you have no idea how well it works. You have tried Track IR and it works well for you. That is all fine. You have already purchased your setup and you are happy. I have already purchased Cachya and it worked well for me right away so I am happy. I have also tried a buddys Track IR which reaffirms my happiness with Cachya. I, as well, have never had any of those issues mentioned above with Cachya. It only took a couple hours of tweaking for me and I had it perfect. ENOUGH SAID OUT

Actually, I have already stated that I have tried out both Cachya and Track IR. That is why I am so enthusiastic about Cachya. I never tried Track IR on my system, but I tried it out on a friends system and his system was better than mine. As I have already stated on other posts, I didn't think that his Track IR tracked any better than Cachya. I was expecting it to be far superior to Cachya when I was trying it, but it worked the exact same way as Cachya. I didn't even have to learn how to use it, because it tracked on par with Cachya. The only downfall I had was that Track IR was getting confused with my glasses. It kept looking down and to the right every now and then and I had to reset the view to center. Apparently, you can adjust the settings in Track IR so that won't happen, but I didn't know at the time. Cachya runs very smooth on my system and after trying Track IR, I am very happy that I only spent $15 on Cachya. If you don't believe what I am saying, then suit yourself. I am the one laughing at everyone spending $130 on a product when they don't have to. :)

I don't understand what you mean by chintzy. Why spend $130 on something, when you can spend $15 on something that does the exact same thing. Cachya does the exact same thing as Track IR. 6DOF head tracking is what both devices do. Track IR doesn't do anything more than cachya. If Track IR would scratch my nuts and give me head tracking at the same time, then yeah I'll spend the extra $115. They do the same thing but in different ways. Apparently Track IR is a little easier to setup and may produce a higher frame rate, but that is the only advantage to Track IR. On my system, I haven't seen a significant drop in FPS to warrant paying for Track IR, and I had it up and running perfectly within a couple of hours. For me, it was money well spent.

I voted Apache all the way. I know we'll never get the Longbow, so I have to go with Apache. I would love to see the Cobra as well. Here is another one I would love to see after watching an hour long special on discovery channel about it. The V-22 Osprey. I think that the capabilities of this airframe are truly awesome. This is something that has definitely never been done in a sim. :thumbup:

Hey, I hear you. I heard about cachya from one person on this forum as well, so I was feeling pretty skeptical myself. However, I tried the free download with the one axis, and it worked so well, that I figured for 15 bucks, I had to try it. 15 bucks is a movie and popcorn these days.

These are my settings that I prefer. I suggest setting yours up to these settings at first and then tweaking it from there to your preference. I am not a huge fan of the head roll axis so I have that one set not very sensitive. You might feel different though, so you might want to try turning up the sensitivity on the roll axis. If you can't print it out, just draw the sign on a piece of paper using the template on the website. Thats all I did, (didn't have a printer at the time). I was skeptical about this program as well before I tried it, because everyone was saying you have to get Track IR. I was very pleasantly surprised at how well it worked. I was even more happy with Cachya when I had an opportunity to try a friends Track IR. I'm happy with my overall decision to try Cachya.

Here are some screenshots I took of my setup. Make sure there is an axis showing for your throttle(Joy Z). Then highlight it and hit axis tune. Make sure that the invert box is checked on. Then make sure that the graph moves with input.

I still use older analog CH setup so I don't think that my mapping would be compatible. I'm assuming you use USB Setup. I don't think I have a solution to your problem.
