  1. That's why a good tracking list with limited voting function could really help for the community to express their demand and giving ED a clearer understanding of the community's opinions base on statistics instead of advocators: Issue tracking list: Issue ------------ Priority ------------ Upvote (for login user only) #1, xxxxxx Low 3 [button: upvote] #2, xxxxxx High 323 [button: upvote] #3, xxxxxx Medium 67 [button: upvote] ............... Wishitem tracking list: Wish item-------- Priority ------------ Upvote (for login user only) #1, xxxx Low 233 [button: upvote] #2, xxxx Medium 455 [button: upvote] ...... And by all means, ED can keep its own secret workitem list for those modules/features that ED and its devs are not comfortable to share with the community.
  2. IMO, sphere projection is probably one of the best approach that can take advantage of a fully functional sim pit to achieve the ultimate simulation experience. In this case, I believe using Track IR to control JHMCS without moving the view port / camera is a legit request. If I had the cash to spend, I probably would do something similar, though I currently use VR which is a cost-effective alternative with some trade-offs apparently, for example: interacting with cockpit controls.
  3. According to my limited observation and IMO, ED did a very good job on creating the most realistic simulation of aircrafts. However, it seems to me that ED strategically puts less attention on content creation and relevant supporting features. I also commented on this in this thread: (#3) https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=247540 but seems it didn't get any attention or further discussion... I guess unless ED change its strategy, otherwise for the time being, we might have to rely on 3rd party scripts. I hope ED could reconsider its strategy on the content creation side at some point. But seeing the situation on other flight simulation games, I guess it's a tough call.
  4. Now you are making a meaningful case... Yea, from jets point of view, I won't feel disadvantaged if I can find a helo behind a building... tbh, I might not even notice that from distance... Now if I sit at the other end, I can see why it is an issue... You could've said that at the beginning actually. I think most people, if not all, thought you were complaining about the radar in DCS in general... :D
  5. Well, it turns out that ED/TFC did make it clear in EULA actually:
  6. According to OP's description, the said practice of the company is different from YouTube video production that we know of. Given the wording in the currently EULA is not clear enough, people certainly can argue, or otherwise this thread would not exist in the first place. It is also not impossible that in the end, ED might not get the support from the court, if they ever go to the court. However if you read between the lines, you'll get the idea and start to understand why ED put a specific clause about YouTube Production there instead of stating it in a more generic way. They could've had an EULA without such clause if they really don't care how their products are used for video production. Well, that's my take anyway. Now, it really depends on how ED see this specific case. In the end, regardless of what would happen at the business side (or legal side, but not that likely I guess), at the moral level such practice (commercial production without proper consent neither giving credits) is not proper, and should not be encouraged, IMO.
  7. I'm not disagreeing with you. If you look at my first post in this thread, you'll see my standing point. With the currently commercially available tech and average infrastructure in most places of the world, you are not wrong. The point I'm trying to make here, is that while STADIA might not be suitable for DCS anytime soon, let's just don't rush to the conclusion of denying the merit and feasibility of using cloud computing for simulation in a longer term (say 5-10 years) and throw OP's idea into trash bin straight away, as 1) its power is unmatchable; 2) all the blocking problems are solvable via technologies either under development or already in early adoption. Here're a few of them: 1) Latency The current typical latency of accessing a DCS server, or basically any game server is somewhere between 30ms to 500ms or higher, give or take. To compare, local display lag is some 30+ms, input lag is some 4-8ms, current CPU/GPU processing lag is variable at about 17ms (60FPS) or above. Now, 5G latency is expected to be nearly 1ms. Realistically, probably a couple of ms. To assist understanding, that low latency is partially achieved via 5G network itself, and partially via edge computing, which is literally putting some computing power at your nearest mobile station/local exchange, which is typically a couple of km from you at most, if not some hundreds of meters. The next generation fibre transmission tech can also achieve similar performance. In fact, that is part of 5G as well (backhaul). I didn't say this will happen over night, but global telco operators are indeed on the way. 2) Throughput To stream 4K video, you'll need 40Mbps network bandwidth. This might be a problem in some places of today's world, but shouldn't be as problematic in the next 5-10 years. Especially when 5G becomes largely available, some rich hardcore gamers don't even need a fibre, if a fibre is still not available by then... 3) Reliability While network itself is drastically improving its availability (which is witnessed over the past decade), we always have the option of authorizing mission critical decision to be handled locally, which doesn't necessarily negate the merit of getting extra assistant from the cloud. Today, most, if not all the demos we saw are conceptual with the focus on showing its feasibility, while some people might easily become picky and rush to a negative conclusion by looking at its reliability side, which those demo aren't really designed for. Again, let's just be rational and not go from one extreme to another. 4) Remote Rendering Nvidia demoed remote rendering 5 years ago at GDC 2014 (https://developer.nvidia.com/sites/default/files/akamai/gameworks/events/gdc14/GDC_14_Cloud_Gaming_With_GRID_Technologies.pdf) A possible architectural change would be shifting local GPU into cloud. Now we would be talking about using an array of GPUs. DCS needs to support multiple GPUs of course... It would be, right? (Looking at ED) 5) Cost model IMO, there could be two options. a. DCS becomes cloud native, and sell as SaaS. Yea, in this case, it would likely be a subscription. But tbh, it wouldn't deter too many DCSers, as long as DCS local version still available, which has to be as it would be silly to assume everyone would have a good network connection. b. You no longer need to own a home PC, instead, you own a virtual "cloud PC". Your some $2000 per 3 years PC upgrade cost can well afford that IaaS. Think about this: in the last 24 hours, how much of your CPU and GPU capacity is actually occupied and at what percentage? Assume averagely less than 20% overall. So if same HW is shared by 5 people, and charge everyone for 50% of its HW cost, it would be $1000 per person over 3 years. The total revenue would be $5000. Well, you can debate from different angles and come up with your own calculation model, but you see the economics in it right? Please ED don't delete this discussion. It's tech nerds' joy, but could still benefit DCS one day. Let's have some dream~
  8. DCS on STADIA Cloud computing can offer massive processing power(and rendering), far more than a high-end home PC. Totally different magnitude, not just a server somewhere remote. So the whole idea is still legit and quite attractive. Just certain conditions need to be met before we, the simmers, can take advantage of that. Those relevant solution/technologies are at horizon. Even the latency problem is solvable. Have some faith... Though the implementation of those tech however could take quite a while... lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I feel sad when people loose hope on China despite the effort they made in the area of copyright protection over the recent years, though there's clearly room for improvement... Like asking an elephant to dance, altering the mindset of 1.4 billion people and legal/business practice could be a tough and time consuming task, let alone there're other implication to manage. But hey, at least the young generation start to awaken and realise. Seeing someone like OP would stand up for it, this is something at least worth some acknowledgement and encouragement.
  10. It wouldn't become a thing if that company proactively gave ED a heads-up, giving ED credit by putting ED's logo properly in their video and mentioning it in their description or whatever both parties agree to. It indeed could be a good business cooperation. This is almost a common sense, hence ED's licence agreement is clearly for individual for non-commercial use. Instead, they take all the credits to themselves. I grew up in a city beside you, bro. I fully understand the how and why behind of that thought process, which has its reasons. But still that mindset needs to change.
  11. Aha, no worries mate. Just curious of the development of this event. I trust ED is looking into this and hope they get a good outcome.
  12. I'd like to have it back too. If the sunlight angle is right, you'll see the shadow of pilot's body/shoulder with no head on it... quite creepy tbh...
  13. STADIA offers: 1) cloud computing, 2) cross-platform. I doubt this would happen any time soon, given that DCS requires massive amount of processing power to achieve a decent level of performance in realtime. It might become feasible if: either 1) super fast (over 10Gbps) and low latency (<50ms) fibre broadband becomes available or 2) edge computing via 5G/6G becomes available And cross-platform is really a low priority for simulation, IMO.
  14. Not sure exactly what you mean, but you can always reserve a button for SRS PTT and keep it universal across all your aircrafts, which might help. In my case though, I set the pinky lever on my TM Warthog stick as a modifier, and also set it as the PTT button in SRS. I also set a toggle switch on my TM Warthog throttle quadrant to turn SRS on/off ("PTT Modifier" in SRS control setting). This works well for me so far.
  15. The module is nicely built, however, since installed, my F/A-18C's landing gear sound is changed... Also having others mentioning similar sound change to their Spitfire. Probably worth an investigation.
  16. Without neglecting the devs' effort, tbh, it's not hard at all to provide a zip pack along side the .exe to suit different need, which a lot of software devs do today. The installer is merely a bunch of script to put files in the right folder, but it also can be abused regardless the misuse is by intention or not, and also it is lack of transparency compared with a zip pack. I've used this installer without issue, just to say both concerns are legit.
  17. Simulation, by definition/nature, implies certainly level of compromise. To that extend, it is almost guaranteed that one can always pick up missing details as long as he/she looks close enough. Radar, or RF (Radio Frequency) in general, is very complicated in real world. It is far more complicated than just LOS. In some cases, LOS rule might not apply at all. Google for keywords like Multipath, Fading, you'll have some idea. Fun fact: the Beam Forming technology used in 5G base station of a mobile network originally comes from military technology - phased array antenna, a category of radar tech that the well know AESA falls into. Now, how many civilian companies in the whole world that have mastered that 5G tech? Another fun fact: there are dedicated RF simulation tool for calculating RF coverage of a given 3G/4G/5G base station, or a bunch of them, on a 3D digital map. Google for keyword "Atol". Such tool usually runs on a dedicated high performance server, and to perform a single simulation/rendering task, it could typically take hours. That would be the best practice that can meet your desired standard. But I can't imagine to implement some simulation mechanism close to that level while also in real-time in moderate PC hardware... So, instead of complaining that wouldn't contribute much, the best course of action is probably to make a positive and constructive case in either the Wish List or the Bug Report sub-forum.
  18. +1 There are good practices in other games, e.g. Overwatch from Blizzard (not flight sim, but quite awesome in terms of both performance and visual quality), that has dedicated settings and mechanism for taking hi-res screenshots. It's all good to use 3rd party apps, but they would inevitably hit certain level of limit on the outcome imposed by the game itself, which makes native support still irreplaceably important and would therefore be very much desired. Especially so since VR is the trend and would probably become the primary choice in the near future.
  19. Well said, mate. Can't agree more to all the points you made.

  21. Hi my fellow Chinese and Chinese DCS fans, I reckon what they did, as you described, by the spirit of copyright, is not proper. Especially it seems that they use DCS as their primary video production tool. And for that reason and to contribute to the potential improvement for both IPR practice in China and ED's self-protection, I personally support your advocacy. In this case however, I guess it might be quite hard for ED to win this battle, despite that I hope ED would. The highlighted Licence Clause is probably poorly written: "Video production by you using DCS products is allowed for Youtube advertisement revenue generation." This doesn't explicitly exclude other use of video production using DCS products. The non-commercial-use clause is imposed on the DCS products, not its video production. I trust ED would take whatever action they see fit, and I hope ED would win. In the meantime, it might also be beneficial for ED to amend the licence agreement, on ED's discretion of course... One question though, what are the top popular Chinese DCS communities?
