    Mosquito

Going to be interesting being the first dual engine ww2 aircraft in DCS. If they also make a night fighter to face off the Ju-88 variant that could be awesome...
  2. The comanche can be quite interesting to fly but I think making it for a high fidelity simulator would involve quite a few issues. Of course there are some games where prototypes fit right in and are even needed to complete a particular lineup. One would be the difficulty of getting documents or interviewing test pilots for a high-profile military aircraft that is probably still going to serve as a basis for actual future military aircraft...
  3. Just wondering why we have so few allied bombers, given that many planes are fighters (eg. Spitfire, Mustang, Sabre for Allies). Is it just because they are central but challenging to create? The models, all the simulated behaviour, and gameplay? I'm pretty OK that WW2 things are usually not high priority - ED has its bets already spread all over the place - but of course, one day would be nice to play full blown, immersive WW2 scenarios.
  4. JF-17 before F-16 I'd think. My estimates are often off :smilewink: Also hopeful for Syria. Just ended my first ever Harrier flight in a nice crash :D 3 crashes before I even reached the runway :smilewink: Oh the historical periods are nice. Sometimes I hope there was less emphasis on "modern day".
  5. I'm taking it in small bites and alt-tabbing constantly when learning.
  6. Congrats for acquiring a dangerous new addiction :D I think it's very typical you fall in love and stay for some completely different aircraft and aspects than you initially thought you would. The ones everybody hypes about usually turn out to be boring in the end. (Compared to what else is available here.) Which time periods do you fly your aircraft from? That's maybe not very optimistic... you know ED was kind of promising more for 2018! :weight_lift_2: Official information tends to be vague or unreliable at best when it comes to anything resembling a release date. (Treat any statement more like a plan or intention of doing something if everything turns out well - the news, software development is full of surprises.) Silver Dragon's list is usually thought of as very optimistic when you look at the year figures. Typically stuff that was not released is just moved to the next. We'll get there eventually... I'm a bit doubtful on 101CC and don't think 23 will make it... maybe 2020. There's one more aircraft I hoped for in 2019 but now I'm not sure. 2020 is our last and best hope there same as maybe for JF-17 (they have not given us much info but it appears to be progressing well).
  7. Strange that JF-17 or the Korean era get so little hype?
  8. So that is why my old Kamov is like mint shape with 10 reactivations remaining or so. Maybe support got tired of tickets and e-mails. :smilewink:
  9. Oh yes. Although Viggen was on top of my list I was surprised how fun it turned out to be. Especially the thing of it being archaic and despite being before the age of the MFD it has a real computer of sorts onboard. The Mig-15 experience was perhaps more unexpected... simple and beautiful... vintage but quite capable... there is just so much athmosphere and you really should youtube this legendary aircraft for its story. The Mig-19, I think it was done because it nicely bridges the gap between the 15 and the 21. Supersonic and in some cases even with missiles, it's pretty much the dawn of a new era. 17 would have just like the old stuff. I guess many in DCS value the aircraft that are the most exotic or unusual - or which have historic value or something. It's not based on the one time Hollywood actually made a movie with a combat aircraft. Think about people going crazy over the Bronco and stuff. F-15s etc get boring quick when you've been gasping at them some 30 years or so. (Is that an age thing or a culture thing... full-fidelity Mig-29 or Su-27 could still be nice.) I thought it looks like an alien who can't figure out how earthlings mark their restrooms
  10. How about trying youtube? Are there Chuck's guides for FC3?
  11. More true than you think... only people new to DCS would check 14x as often as necessary. In other words... it will come when it's ready... they will release when they think you would actually want it.
  12. Viggen is beta? :shocking: I hadn't noticed... guess there are reasons why it's one of the most popular modules :music_whistling: Good to know all my money is not going to bad swedish booze and c70s with low profile rims :D Just awesome folks... maybe I'll finally stop looking at the scenery when flying Persian Gulf :worthy:
  13. What kind of missions do you run? Affects at least CPU load when there is lots of stuff (scripts, AI). You'll generally need a mid tier system to run DCS. (For VR, pretty much top end.)
  14. Nice... much more than going to silver paste.
  15. CPU OCed by 700MHz? Never did that stuff myself yet... Sounds like it would be pretty decent still today: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i7-3770K-vs-Intel-i7-8700K-vs-Intel-i5-7600K/2vs3098vs2919 How many degrees C does delidding usually help... and is the effect in degrees comparable if you run at lower temps say below 60C?
  16. Yes MAC can be quite nice (esp. to screen aircraft before you decide to buy them as full fidelity). But FC3 is already a good deal for people that are new/just want to do tactical A2A. Especially when it's -50% and there's a MAC upgrade coming. I bought it full price 2 weeks before
  17. You can make money with bad software. Good software is golden. If you survive the first few years in coding (or the tech profession) it starts growing on you and you do develop methods to navigate the valley of death. The really good coders already have a passion for it before they start. I sometimes meet very talented people who seem to be grinning most of the time just because it's so fun. Highly experienced coders still curse when they hit a really tough one :smilewink: Everybody likes to make big plans and write new code but fixing somebody else's aborted mess is another thing. Big respects to the new guy who is told to "fix all the bugs in Harrier"...
  18. Yes most players would hardly call that an error. BTW working on a casual mission where the alby is the toughest CAS plane :smilewink:
  19. There's very little point in waiting with the sale IMO. Not likely there's a sale on MAC for a while. And you gain different kinds of option value. You can choose NOT to upgrade to MAC. You can choose to upgrade to MAC. You can choose to buy additional MAC aircraft only individually. OR you can choose to buy full detail versions of the additional aircraft! Personally I already chose the last one - got tired waiting for MAC with no news or release dates in sight. The Mig-15 is a blast! This option of course is more expensive but in the long run it can be much more rewarding. Once people learn the basics they develop a thirst for high-fidelity modules and can pick them up quickly. The maps will muddle the waters a little bit, but again I'd prefer the option of getting the full PG map. Would doubt there's any nice mountain areas (Iran inland) in the limited version. They're more like demo versions I'd think and will be mostly ignored by the active MP community.
  20. I'll have to check that although I already have almost all helicopters  ED has increased module prices not long back. 2015-2016 I think were times of heavy promotions on Steam, they have pushed that platform and increased the user base. This time I got the mirage, harrier, spitfire, mig-15 (awesome!), huey. And Normandia+asset pack, think it's overlooked as it's not just for WW2. May still get a bit more at least the GPS and maybe a campaign... The vintage aircraft are a nice surprises... so much more feeling though WW2 apparently is somewhat incomplete as an environment... so is DCS overall... but the aircraft are good... I hope we get the rest :smilewink:
  21. A 2nd SSD with regular SATA might make sense so you have room for a future m.2 upgrade. 256GB is a small disk in that price range. You guys sound like I'm in for a world of hurt with a 4k monitor upgrade. Going with full HD I'm used to 70-120fps with what I consider almost max settings. No MSAA or crazy things like that :-p
  22. I honestly was expecting the Mi-24 to fly before midsummer(*. Now the clouds are gathering and there are many doubts :( Maybe we reads too much into one statement. I certainly appreciate them informing us - bad news that come early are better than ones that come late to a community with lots of expectations. It's difficult to speculate on modules when there are many unknowns like possible problems with partners and ED developers. Not to mention commercial priorities. I don't think we'll see F-16 for a while, ED must see it as a major module like the hornet. Cobra I believe is not high priority either - who knows. The Mi-24 is more famous I would think. I'm too much an optimist when it comes to DCS. *) Talking of midsummer 2019 here. (EDIT) Thanks for lifting up the mood :smilewink:
  23. Varis

    Problems

They miscalculated (or were short of money) and are trying to fix the situation. Give it a few months and the new coder may yet show what he/she can do. Oh wait, you forgot the Mirage which reportedly is a much better show than the Harrier. Haven't yet had the time to fly either personally.
  24. CA is mostly useful in some multiplayer missions where it has a role. Otherwise it feels overpriced comparing to what other modules in DCS can offer, unfortunately. The trick is that it can add value to every other module you have, might make sense to some people to buy it on discount. Hopefully ED can boost it up with the 2.0 version. Would still make a lot of sense to bundle it with helicopters and maybe some other stuff. The big helicopter bundle was bit of a one-off... they should maybe do some more promoting for them. I doubt we'll see better than -50% discounts on helis for a while...
  25. It's a feature. But would be smarter to show a loading screen. Who knows - maybe they are fixing it with the dedicated server, would make sense?
