  1. Lets put this to rest, the airplane in that picture is tail 315, a famous prototype shown at various airshows as a tech demonstrator. It is however, not your everage stock 9.12.
  2. Said old RIO's won't be able or willing to talk about it since it's probably still very much classified. Nobody wants to go to jail.
  3. Ok, did some quick and dirty tests with the Mk60 A (not a large sample size due to time constraints and pure boredom) but just about the only thing that changes with the Phoenix is its ability to reacquire (same with the 120), You can still very much easily defeat a single or even dual launch with just a notch and some chaff and can re-commit once the missile has passed you. You can even see the launch based on the smoke plume looking outside. The only real way where a Tomcat wins with the Phoenix against a competent player is if he runs you down with 4-6 Phoenix launches in ACM keeping you defensive at all times and then finishes you off with a Sparrow or Sidewinder. Any TWS shot from long range will always be a single missile as well so the whole "no warning" argument doesn't really hold here if you just keep on cruising. Also keep in mind your RWR blindspot above most jets, so if one were to turn back into the Tomcat from a defensive notch position, any subsequent launch or active missiles might be in the blindspot. We'll see how all this looks once the missiles is on the new API. Tacview-20210910-221752-DCS-Phoenix test Mk60)2.txt.acmi
  4. Agreed. Much more plausible.
  5. Thanks, that's the one.
  6. Well, the E can also differ quite a lot between nations and it carries a ton of different weaponry making it more complicated.
  7. I sure hope it's a naval variant that will operate from the Forrestal class CV's. Would be a waste not to use these assets. And HB are about the only developer that could do such a multicrew jet justice. The Phantom shares quite a lot with the Tomcat when it comes to operations, crew duties and its DNA.
  8. Well, it's up to ED and the SME's to decide what should be possible and what shouldn't be. Afaik. the 9.12 simply had weight restrictions on said pylons and the weapons control system wasn't specifically configured for said missiles, let alone the cooling mechanism for the 27T. With its original radar it would pretty much be a case of the missile outranging its radar in a lot of cases. The 27's jammers can be quite effective especailly if it's DFRM in later models. But again, we are talking about the 29A here, with no jammer and fairly large limitations when it comes to the radar and SPO-15. And honestly, for the type of engagements the 29A was designed for "only" having the 27R and Archer is more than fine - you would not want to try and out BVR Eagles or Hornets with AMRAAM's or even late Sparrows.
  9. Yeah that's not how it works. There are tons of 9.13's with no hump, UPG's and SMT's that were A updrages. You can not, factually say that this is a 9.12 in the picture.
  10. How do we know this is a 9.12 and not an upgrade? Yes but until this day no 9.12 operator is seen using said missiles. Poland even bought more 27R's for theirs recently.
  11. Yeah in a dynamic environment said calls will always be delayed.
  12. Documentation being the 29A manuals and its armament schemes (no mention of ER etc) as well as never seeing pictures of a 29A (9.12) with said missiles.
  13. Indeed. The sketchy part about the S is that it's still in RuAF operations and the ECM part might get tricky. And by fiction I meant the fact that original 77's weren't used in the RuAF or any S really. While the 120B/C surely are the most widespread missile on the western counterparts. Of course this is DCS and you can do what you want.
  14. 29 does NOT have Lazur but a different system. Don't know who came up with this and spread it. Another thing, the 29A (9.12) can NOT carry ER/ET/T. If we're talking 29S (9.13S) then that is probably the most capable "hot rod" of the 29's. Once the R-77 CFD rework hits and the 29S gets a slight radar range/power adjustment like is needed it should theoretically be a closer match for 120B carriers. Even if said use of R-77's is mostly fiction.
  15. It's almost like you can toggle the pilot body on/off with a single bind. And I'm not switching and clicking a bunch of stuff on the side panels when in combat, that's what the HOTAS is for. I think having one like in the F/A-18 or other modules really adds to the immersion and fills the cockpit. Otherwise it's just an empty cockpit being flown by a ghost. Fighter cockpits are usually fairly cramped and small and said VR pilot body really adds to that. To me it's an immersion thing and I'm not even in VR.
  16. I was wondering whether ED is planning to include VR/cockpit pilot models with the release of the Apache, given the Viper, A-10C II, Hind etc. all don't have them yet. Would add a lot of value and immersion to the module, especially for the folks in VR.
  17. After a year yes. What about the laundry list of promised features and tons of outstanding bugs? Pretty sure barely anyone is working on SC these days. It coukd have been all done and dusted if they worked on it with some dedication.
  18. Dead module. No fixes, features or even the new Stennis...
  19. Good to hear! Kinda had hoped the 14A had a tad or a higher priority given it's the main type to operate off the Forrestal Does this mean that after this major revision and tuning effort the Tomcat FM will be in a pretty much finalised state?
  20. Not surprising with that username.
  21. Exactly, heck even the ancient R-27 in the Flanker is tuned to an individual frequency from the cockpit.
  22. Again, give me a couple days to conduct said tests and collect the needed data. I am also more than happy to go in a private server with you and conduct the same tests and do some potential teaching here and there.
  23. Yes you do. Facts. Please provide them. In what way does it outperform it in DCS apart from specific impulse and kinematics? You doing tests against AI also disproves your own argumentation methods from previously.
  24. How do you know? Also, ED themselves have said that the 120 will receive some needed updates soon which will make it much more lethal. Read up on MPRF.
  25. Excuse me, what? Sure, let me hop on GS and hope I can find some Tomcat to fire at me if there are even any flying. The only true normalised comparison and scenario which one can reproduce 100+ times is a pre-set 1v1 with known parameters. What you asked was for me to look at the AIM54A in an online (MP) environment, which is just what I described above. It is not different than on any other server where you might encounter a Tomcat. This is the only way to show, in a reproducable manner, how to counter and defeat the Phoenix and is no edited or tailored manner - the missile will not all of a sudden behave differently than on a populated server (lag not being considered).
