That's it. You're very welcome, but I don't guaranty it will work for everyone. Concerning performances, just after the latest OB update, I applied this procedure and ran a VR free flight in F/A-18 over Syria, and I was amazed to see it was perfectly smooth, no stutter at all and solid 45 fps even over populated areas while low flight. Unfortunattely, I never experienced again this level of perf in FPS, even with the above procedure, but to be honest, so many other things changed (Windows update, NV driver update to 466.27) that it becomes really tricky to find out the culprit... Moreover, I do use some mods which could also affect the performances (Mustang corrected shadder, better trees, CGTC, better runway, and of course CAS), but at least MSAA is still there.

Hi Woona, Sure, I just rename the DCS.openbeta folder located in C:\Users\yourname\Saved Games\ (the one with fxo and metashaders folders in) by just adding ".old" at the end, then I usually proceed to a low complete clean-up. Then I start up DCS to let it rebuilt a new proper folder in saved games. After that, I copy the logbook.lua and my input files in the new folder and rebuild the settings. It's a quite long procees, and I actually have to go into it every time DCS crashes (that usually breaks MSAA setting effect and I also loose 20 to 30% FPS), but it seems to work for me. Sorry I don't have a specific link to provide, but I read BN saying several times it could help for some.

Hi BigNewy, Happened again 15mins ago. I installed today's new patch, renamed again saved games and did a full repair. After that, it was really working beautifully, both in 2D (all settings maxed out) and VR (pretty high settings also.) Free Flight mission in Syria with Hornet, this map used to stress my rig quite a bit in 2.5.6 and I have the feeling I have a bit better perf than before. Exited the mission and tried to lauch M2000C night landing in PG, and BAM... Crashed to desktop (in 2D this time, not VR but the effect is the same.) I restarted the game, and immediatelly found MSAA was broken again and was unable to put it back on. Attached herewith is the log (not sure which file you need, so I put all 3...) I have the feeling that if I want to avoid CTD, I need to restart the game between each mission. Thanks in advance for your help. Edit: Oh, and I forgot to say that I also lost about 20 to 30% in perf on the same mission after I restarted. I know it sounds like what many other users are currently experiencing, but I know it will be back on good perfs with the "rename saved games" trick... At least for me... dcs.log dcs.log-20210422-212841.zip debrief.log

Hi BigNewy, Thanks for your quick reply. Next time it happens I'll attach the log. I fully understand it's Open Beta and things still need to be tweaked, it's normal considering the huge job you've done for this awesome update, and I'm confident that major bugs and perf downgrade some of us are experiencing will be sorted out soon. Keep up the great job!

Hi, 2.7 with Reverb G2 here. When I updated to 2.7, I noticed a slight performance impact in VR (nothing comparable to the 30% drop some are experiencing, though...) and BigNewy's advice to rename the saved games folder and repair seemed to make the job for me. Certain situations are still a bit more stressful for my rig than with 2.5.6, like populated areas or overcast with heavy rain, but still ok'ish. So I started to enjoy cloud surfing. And then... DCS crashed to desktop (as it sometimes happens), but when I fired it up again, I immediatelly noticed the shimmering image as if MSAA was off in settings (despite it was on 2x, as usual). And then, whatever the setting I put (Off, 2x or 4x), nothing changes and the game doesn't restart as it normally does when validating the settings (which is a good clue that something is broken). I do the "rename saved games folder/repair" thing, and MSAA joy is back... But every 4 or 5 missions, the game eventually crash to desktop again, and I have to do trick all over again, which is quite a PITA, to say the least... What is weird, is that when MSAA is broken, I don't feel any performance gain as if it was normally off... So for the coming days, I'm back to pancake with good old trackIR to enjoy the beauty of 2.7 (no experience with 2D 2.5.6 to say if I gained or lost any perf...) Any clue for what could break MSAA ingame??
-
Well, actually, no need of DDU's on my side, I simply renamed the "saved games" folder as BigNewy advised, and it did the trick for me. It's a bit of a PITA, since I had to redo all the settings and only copied my logbook from the previous folder (and HOTAS bindings of course...)
-
Hi there, Same here from this evening on 2.7... Lost MSAA effects despite it was on 2x in the settings. I'll give that DDU a try and will report back if it works.
-
Correct, it was a NineLine comment on YT.
-
Well, not for the Hind, but for 2.7 release there was an obvious hint: "We would like to inform you of a longer than usual update cycle commencing now in the lead up to 2.7." So my guess is: in 3 weeks at least...
-
Have you seen the new cloud trailer on Youtube?? I'm litterally blown away!! March... So close, and so far from now at the same time!!! Can't wait...
-
Really sorry to hear about your misfortune with the Rift S, I hope you'll enjoy the Reverb. But with your comment... You made my day !!

Hi Nalfeyn. Sorry if it was confusing. I'll try to be clear: I very much liked the Oculus software. As you told, just install it and very few things to tweak. You can then fire up DCS. With WMR, it's a whole different story: Install Steam > Install Steam VR > Install WMR portal to SteamVR > Configure WMR > Configure SteamVR > Check the WMR portal beta version > Disable the multi-monitor allocation > Drink a beer to have rest and calm down > Fire DCS correctly (I'm not even completely fine with the correct process: start DCS desktop icon, or directly in WMR, or using SteamVR, and sometimes the mouse doesn't work once helmet in on...) To "sum up" (sort of...) Rift S pros +Good image clarity +Excellent sweetspot (almost edge-to-edge clarity) +Good comfort +Very good tracking (including controllers) +Very pleasant and easy-to-use software +You can play almost every VR games on the market (Oculus + SteamVR natively compatible) Rift S cons: -Poor audio experience (but you can use earbuds) -Quite small FOV -Not so great contrasts Reverb G2 pros: +Outstanding clarity +Better contrast than Rift S +Better colors than Rift S +Very good comfort +Excellent audio +A bit better FOV than Rift S Reverb G2 cons: - Smaller sweetspot than Rift S - Controller tracking not on par with Oculus touch (not used in DCS, but quite noticeable in other games) - Use of all the software suite to make it run - You can play Oculus games using Revive, but it is not as straightforward and there are some bugs... Reverb G2's goods are really better than the Rift S, but the cons are more noticeable and can be annoying to some... That's why I find the Rift S experience to be a bit more "ballanced" overall. But if you're mainly interrested in better visuals and better audio, G2 is definitely the way to go.

Oh, and as Gruman said, the flickering (I should say shaking as hell) loading screens are terrible... It's a WMR bug, I red.
-
Coming form a Rift S, I finally received my G2 from Amazon Spain on 31st of december (so barrely can say "last year"!) I would join Gruman on his feelings, the first thing that stroke me (and disappointed me a bit), was the narrower sweet spot compared to the Rift S. I've got a pretty standard 65mm IPD, and using the RIft S was perfect (edge to edge clarity), Oculus devices have the best Fresnel lenses regarding sweet spot. But I must say that after two or three days, I got used to it, and it's nowhere a game breaker for me now (and yes, I set the IPD correctly in the HMD and also tried to play with it a bit, no improvement...) Second thing that stroke me (positivelly this time) was of course the insane clarity in the center, it trully gives a sense of presence in the games, clearly another level. I noticed the contrasts are far better than in the Rift S, particularly the shadows in the cockpit during day (and night flights in general). Black levels are very good for lcd panels. Colors are great also. I found the FOV to be noticeably better than the Rift S. Sound is really good, I love it, and the fact that the speaker don't touch my ears, very immersive. Comfort is very good, but Rift S also for me. While head tracking is flawless, controller tracking is definitely not as good as Oculus solution, but again not a game breaker for me (I don't use them in DCS) Software side, it's really a pain in the a** (Oculus software is sooo straightforward), but thanks to the community (Dburne, Speed-of-Heat, Imacken, etc.) I had gathered all needed information before receiving it, and I thought I was ready to fire it... Well, actually no, it still took me almost 2 days to make it run properly. Now I'm enjoying it with better visuals (except sweet spot) with pretty the same settings in DCS as with the Rift S (quite high, eye-candy-lover here!!) But it's not a perfect experience, I find the Rift S was a bit more "ballanced" in this regard. In the end, I'll keep the G2 and sell the Rift S. If were you, I wouldn't bother about software support for the Rift S. I had a really good experience with it during one year, it will not stop working for you in the coming mounths. OG Rift is out for almost 5 years now, and a lot of happy virtual pilots are still enjoying it flawlessly. But if you can afford the higher price of the G2, it's definitely a step up (at least visually.) Just be aware of its downsides!

I think you're talking about MRTV's video, but it was about the Reverb G2 not the Quest 2. Coming from a Rift S (Oculus devices are generally the best Fresnel lenses regarding sweet spot), I was indeed a bit disappointed by the smallest sweet spot of the G2, that's why I was so interrested in his videos. But yesterday, he released a new video where he tried a new G2 coming from Amazon Spain (same as me, probably the same batch), and sweet spot was exactly the same. He is also awainting 8 other headsets from the community to check if there is a difference, and may be, a lens batch with lower quality in this regard, so we will see... But I doubt it.

Ooooh my gosh, just watched the new "2021 and beyond" video, those new clouds look so gorgeous!! Can't wait to see them in my (coming) G2... By the way, wonder which one arrives first, new clouds or G2 in Europe!!
-
Oooh my... Where do those pictures come from??? They're amazing!!
-
Ah thanks, sorry I can't see your sig on my phone...
-
Hi Bignewy, Could you please remind us your system's specs? The performances you get with such settings seems quite high and give me high hopes regarding my upcoming G2 and my own rig...
-
Yesterday I finally received an email from Amazon Spain, and I was really scared that they were announcing the cancellation of my preorder... But they just told me that, due to the "unexpected" delay of the delivery, they will cashback 50€ on my account... Sweet!! That brings the final price at 550€, so 200€ less than the official retail price here in France (VAT included). Unfortunately, no new ETA so far. Of course I would prefer to get it this week, but I don't really care if it arrives in 2 or 3 weeks. I just want it at the preorder Price (and even less now)...
-
Same here... Based on Systemactive information, and assuming it is applicable to all european suppliers (Amazon Spain included), I don't expect to receive my G2 before 10th of December (ordered 8th of August.) Gosh!!

I had this too yesterday evening... When I saw that, I almost had a heart attack!! I just disconnected/reconnected and all was fine. -
Hi Don and Imacken, and thanks a lot for your tips and advice, they'll help me a lot once I receive my G2. Ordered it on 8th of August on Amazon Spain, but still received no notification for any delivery date... I guess we'll still have to wait a bit in Europe. Don, you really seem to be much impressed by the WMR Reprojection (let's call it Motion Verctor, I guess), how do you feel it compares to Oculus ASW ?? I'm actually a bit bothered by the occasionnal tearing and artifacts in the Rift S.

Quest 2 and DCS not very crisp
Pride37 replied to Alfredson007's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You will not lose your Oculus library, even if you sell your Rift S. Just don't uninstall the Oculus Software and get Revive for Steam VR, you'll then be able to enjoy all your Oculus games with the G2. -
Hi Rocky, Speed-of-heat's settings are a good start, but considering you rig, you should be able to crank up settings a little bit. Have a look also on Thud's web site below, it has a dedicated part for owners moving from Oculus HDMs' to Reverb: https://vr4dcs.com/
