Is that toolkit one a better implementation than using the re-projection using the OpenXR tool?

Multithreading VR Benchmark 4090 + 7950x3D
Panthera_Tigris replied to DirtyMike0330's topic in Virtual Reality
Your conclusion seems to mirror mine that the extra v-cahce doesn't help with DCS much, unlike with other flight sims. BTW, the game is run on the frequency cores by default for me. Even though I selected "remember this is a game" in xbox game bar. The only way to run it on v-cahce cores is by using process lasso and selecting affinity. Not that it matters since results are the same for both of us. -
Multithreading Performance is Sensational in VR
Panthera_Tigris replied to Flextremes's topic in Virtual Reality
No change for me because I was probably already GPU bound My CPU frame time was already 3-4 ms which is very good so I don't think it could have improved much. Meanwhile, my GPU frame time ranges from 12-15 ms. Guess I should reduce some settings because 15 ms is way too high with a 4090. CPU: 7950X3D GPU: 4090 FE Reverb G2 with 150% OpenXR resolution and max settings (except 2x MSAA) Also, the MT DCS is running on my non v-cache core for some reason even though I have it set to prefer v-cache in Process lasso. Not that it matters because even if I force it to run on v-cache, there is no perceptible change. -
I am getting 60-65 fps on max settings (except 2x MSAA) and 150% in OpenXR. I can probably touch 90 if I reduce the OpenXR resolution and some other unnecessary stuff. This is on a Reverb G2. Anyway, downloading the MT patch now although it doesn't seem like I am CPU bottlenecked anymore. Edit: I gained maybe 1-4 fps with the MT patch. Which means I am def GPU bottlenecked now.

Got my 7950X3D yesterday and was testing it out pairing it with a 4090. Essentially, what I am trying to figure out is if the game benefits from the extra v-cahce on CCD0. MSFS and other sims benefit massively from v-cahce. Sadly, I am not seeing any difference when running the game on CCD0 or CCD1. Same CPU frame time and same overall FPS. Anyone else with this chip can confirm?

Nvidia 4090 Power limiting & undervolting in VR
Panthera_Tigris replied to NBee's topic in Virtual Reality
I am running my 4090 FE at 975mV@2750MHz with +200 core and +1300 VRAM. Haven't touched the power limit. Waiting for my 7950X3D to arrive before I tinker any more. -
I am also about to buy this Molykote 55 since Nyogel is not available here. Sounds like it worked well for you?

valve index 2 early suspected info and features
Panthera_Tigris replied to Gun Jam's topic in Virtual Reality
Would really appreciate it if someone could do a quick TLDR! Dont want to watch the video. -
I personally love campaigns and I am glad they are adding one to the Hind!

@Gunfighter6 I have almost the same specs as you: 10700K which is slightly faster and a watercooled 1080Ti. I run the Reverb at 150% SS!!! SSAA is soooo much better than MSAA in DCS. It's a double benefit - more clairty and also provides AA. Of course the aim is to maintain 45 FPS and then use reprojection. But in other sims, I can hit 90 FPS easily even with 150% SS on a Reverb.

The advantages of down sampling on HP Reverb
Panthera_Tigris replied to speed-of-heat's topic in Virtual Reality
Naah, I run my Reverb at 150% SS and its much clearer that way. It improves clarity enough that it makes MSAA sort of unnecessary (super-sampling is a form of antialiasing anyway). At that res, MSAA has no effect on cockpit and only on some distant buildings and power poles which are low priority anyway. The thing is if you can't get 90 FPS reliably, then it doesn't matter if you are at 75 or 50 because you will be on reprojection anyway. -
HP Reverb. Which one is better? 60FPS @ 60hz or 45FPS @ 90hz?
Panthera_Tigris replied to Adam's topic in Virtual Reality
@Adam. I don't know mate but it seems I am somehow the outlier here. I thought it was the VR shader mod that was making all the difference but apparently everyone else uses it too. Most of my settings are from this guide: https://www.gamersbynight.com/dcs-settings-vr/ FYI, turning off those windows setting in that guide also made a big difference. BTW, I do go below 45 FPS on the supercarrier but once in the air, its fine. I also turn off terrain shadows and just go max shadows in the cockpit instead. My conclusion is that its vert hard to get 90 FPS but very easy to get 45 FPS in DCS. -
HP Reverb. Which one is better? 60FPS @ 60hz or 45FPS @ 90hz?
Panthera_Tigris replied to Adam's topic in Virtual Reality
Same. I run at 45 FPS now with motion reprojection to 90. Turns out I can run my Reverb 150% SS, 2x MSAA and max shadows, terrain etc if I learn to live with 45 FPS + reprojection so yea. -
No, thats not how it works Gunnars. Motion smoothing setting in SteamVR (for each individual app) applies motion reprojection to WMR headsets. It does not apply motion smoothing, even though it is called that. But that's ok since most people dont care about the difference. By default, motion reprojection is set to auto. Here, read these official patch notes: https://steamcommunity.com/games/719950/announcements/detail/3851080472164545100 Motion Reprojection Setting Changes This beta makes changes to how motion reprojection settings can be managed. Like before, the default.vrsettings file can be modified to specify the reprojection mode to use for all titles. As a reminder, the possible values are: disabled - motion reprojection is never applied. auto - motion reprojection is applied if the running title cannot maintain native framerate. motionvector - motion reprojection is always applied. Alternatively, if you're using Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR in conjunction with the latest SteamVR release, you can now use SteamVR to manage motion reprojection settings on a per-application basis. To enable this functionality: Ensure you're running a supported version of SteamVR (1.10.28 or greater). Remove the "motionReprojectionMode" line from default.vrsettings. In the SteamVR settings, select Video > Per Application Video Settings. Select the title you're interested in, and change the motion smoothing option. Motion Smoothing Setting Use Global Setting - no application specific override. The global default mode is auto. Enabled - motion reprojection runs in auto mode, applying reprojection if the application cannot maintain native framerate. Disabled - motion reprojection is never applied for the application. Force Always-on - application runs at half-framerate with reprojection.
-
If you have motion reprojection on auto, then how come you are getting 55, 58, 59, 61 FPS etc? Shouldn't it switch on and render at 45 frames?

Vr headset recommendations
Panthera_Tigris replied to Bossco82's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Reverb is best for flight/ racing sims. Index is best for other types of games which require a controller. Since you intend to do both, its a tough choice between the two. But at least we got you down to two :D -
fpsVR does not show actual frame times for WMR headsets. I asked the fpsVR dev on Steam about this specifically. Here is his exact quote, " do not forget that SteamVR (and fpsVR) will not show you the total frame time, including the frame processing time on the WMR side... SteamVR is not native frames compositor for WMR headsets. Windows Mixed Reality Portal has own frames compositor. Time on its side doesn't included in SteamVR stats."

3080 performance with different CPU'S
Panthera_Tigris replied to Bearskin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Upgrading your CPU will only make a difference if you are CPU bottlenecked. Most games are not CPU bottlenecked, but DCS in VR is not most games lol. DCS and IL2 are most def CPU bottlenecked in VR so upgrading CPU can significantly improve frame drops. -
Anyone planning on getting the 3090 for VR?
Panthera_Tigris replied to kevman's topic in Virtual Reality
Will wait and see if they release a 3080Ti. I usually get the xx80Ti. The 3090 founders is USD 2,100 here in not-America. I generally buy the AIO version so 200 on top of that. -
Coming from Il2, DCS VR is... horrible? (not performance)
Panthera_Tigris replied to JG4_Sputnik's topic in Virtual Reality
IL2 def looks much better in VR compared to DCS. I mean, it IS a newer engine after all. However, please do NOT talk about IL2's sun. I HATE that thing. Its so bright and always in your face. I actually tried wearing sun-glasses under my headset once. :matrix: -
If you turn on the indicator, you will see small coloured boxes in the top left corner of the left eye which indicate status of re-projection. Like this: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/images/mvlsrindicator.png To turn on the indicator, remove the // from the following as well: // “motionReprojectionIndicatorEnabled” : true,

Just updated my ~4 year old Vive to a Reverb. The clarity boost is amazing with gauges as readable as on a monitor. I got the 947 serial number so its the late November model. Have not done any tweaking so far except for lowering SS to 100% and enabling motionvector or whatever in that WMR config file. Played a bunch of DCS, IL2 and a few racing sims. All were great except Dirt Rally which made me nauseous very quickly which is rare. Definitely an issue with the game or its various VR hacks like Revive or the those Oculus files we are forced to use. See this is why I HATE Oculus - they bribed games like Dirt Rally to be Oculus exclusive and now we have to use hacks to play them. Anyway, back on topic. The Reverb is def lighter than the Vive, build quality is not as good but who cares about that as long as the insides are good. Speakers are really poor but more convenient. My biggest issue was that it is really making my glasses press on my nose to the point of being intolerable. I have been using the vroptician lenses for my Vive and just ordered the same for the Reverb but might take a while to get here form Germany. In the meantime, just going to go out and buy some contacts for a week or two (yup, it hurts that bad). My glasses are not big by the way, it's a pretty slender frame. There also seems to be some IPD realted issue. My IPD is 67 so not that off but I get double vision when looking at fpsVR or the gunsights in IL2. Does the IPD setting in Windows settings do anything? Any other hacks or tips I should be aware of? I did notice quite a bit of chromatic aberration. Any fixes for that?

We have "key influenceres"?? I just thought that was just something kids do to sell skin cream on Instagram or make a few bucks streaming video games. So who are your "key influencers"? Yea man, VR is not perfect. Thank you making this "Goodbye VR" thread to get that point across. We need more of these. Everyone who doesn't like something should make a thread about it IMO. Lets make a better world for you and I (and the infleuncers).

I just went ahead bought a Reverb today as well ! I have had a Vive since launch in early 2016 and was eager to update to an Index or a Reverb. The Index wait was killing me (its never in stock) so I just went ahead and got the Reverb. My main concern was having to fiddle with WMR and stories of how Microsoft software updates can make it act weirdly. But I guess tinkering with stuff is part of the PC gaming fun :D Going to have to get new lenses from VRoptician. I don't think the old Vive ones will fit.

If I buy from the US/ Canada directly and have my true international address then I don't have to pay US/ Canada taxes. But HP does NOT ship internationally. Which is why I will have to use a local freight forwarder. So my delivery address will be the freight forwarder's address in the US/ Canada and sales tax will be charged based on his location. US taxes are pretty low or even zero in some states so this works fine. But with 15% in Canada as you have said, its not worth it.
