I haven't taken the next step from 1.1.0.7 to 1.1.0.8 because I have been away on business, but I wanted to see if most people thought 1.1.0.8 offered more benefits than issues and was worth it overall. I keep reading about some who experience performance issues (lower FPS), the known tree shadow issue, and a few other little things and I wonder if I should just hold off for 1.1.0.9 or are most people glad they got the latest patch and like what it offers. I'm not sure how long until 1.1.0.9 comes out anyways and I'll be home next Tuesday and will want to fly then for sure! I know it's hard to say yes or no definitively since everyone's circumstances and systems are different, I just wanted to get a general feeling from the community. Are there any real big issues people have had after updating to 1.1.0.8? Also I suppose if I wanted to play online then I would have to get the latest version, correct?

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
SinandGrin replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
Ok I was able to get it to work finally. The key was that I had to change the monitor layout in windows first, so that the middle monitor was #1 and it was oriented all the way to the left. Then to it's right (in windows) was the monitor physically located to it's left. After I did that it all came together and ran fine. Unfortunately it was a bit of a drag on my FPS so i'm not sure i'll keep the setup that way. Might be time to buy some new hardware. -
Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
SinandGrin replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
Yup tried that, it was my first thought but as you can see the results did not come out. As you can see in the picture right above everything looks ok if I could just shift the total images to the left so that it lined up with the left edge of my center monitor there. Also here is a link to some other images to help show what's going on. http://s143.photobucket.com/albums/r125/sinandgrin/DCS%20A10C%20help/ -
Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
SinandGrin replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
I was wondering if someone could take a look at my monitor setup file and see what I might be doing wrong. I want to run my main display on my 23" 16:10 1680X1050 widescreen monitor which is in the center and surounded by two 4:3 19" 1280X1024 monitors on each side. I wanted the display on the right to mirror my right and left MFCDs so that I could "grab" the images and send them to my Ipad for use with the Ipadpit. http://www.ipadpit.nl/ http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=68676&highlight=ipadpit Here is the custom monitor config file: _ = function(p) return p; end; name = _('Camera + DUALMFD250'); Description = 'Dual MFCD on the right and camera on the center' Viewports = { Center = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 1680; height = 1050; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 1.6; } } LEFT_MFCD = { x = 1700; y = 700; width =250; height = 250; } RIGHT_MFCD = { x = 1951; y = 700; width = 250; height = 250; } UIMainView = Viewports.Center And my resolution I set in game under the options screen to 4240X1050 (1280+1680+1280) and the game then calculates the aspect ratio itself. The plan is to have my full cockpit on the 23” widescreen monitor in the center as normal. Do nothing with the left monitor and then have the left and right MFCDs on the right monitor each rendered at a size of 250x250. The left MFCD would start at the location X = 1700 Y = 700 and span right for 250, then the right MFCD would be right next to it at X = 1951 and go for 250. I just chose some random spot on the right monitor to setup the screen grabber to pickup the MFCDs and stream the images to my Ipad using the Touch IR+ server, so the location is not a requirement at all. I should mention a few notes though. My 23” monitor in the middle is actually the #1 monitor as windows sees it. Meaning, the start menu is on that screen at the bottom left. My left monitor’s top left corner then would be X = -1280, Y = 0. If that makes sense. The aspect ration above in the custom monitor file I figured by 16/10 = 1.6, seems to look correctly. So after all of that said, the problem I am having is that after I load a mission and it finishes loading and it comes to the pause screen where you would hit pause to un-pause the game and start flying, the sim crashes. The whole thing locks up and stops responding. I have to force it to close and try again. As far as i can tell it looks as though everything should be in the correct placement on my screens but I can’t get it to load without hanging up. I was able to get the sim to play when I had an incorrect value for the total screen resolution set at 2960X1050. This caused the main cockpit screen to render half on the 23” center monitor and the other half on the right 19” monitor, with the MFCDs then properly set off a bit further to the right on the right 19” screen. So if this makes sense to someone and they have any ideas for something I can try, or need more information or clarification please help and let me know. -
What ways can you see vhf frequency of the airport you are at?
SinandGrin replied to bloomstomb's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I think that you can view the F10 map and select the airfield you want by left clicking on it. It should then bring up a details window which lists the ATC frequency. Ugh beat me to it, asparagin! -
Ah this is the important bit of information that is hard to know unless you either are privy to developer information or, in this case, from just trial and error. I was wondering how the SAM radar systems AI worked, under the hood. I know there are several techniques IRL that SAM operators can employ to make detection and evasion much harder, but knowing how the sim handles this is crucial to mission success. So either you have the time to test out various scenarios or have detailed information from the developers as to how the AI is modeled. Either way, thank you for your efforts and the rest of the community here and I hope we will be able to compile a comprehensive guide to dealing with all the sim's threats.

Just curious, how did you get these values (4.5nm and 6.5)? Is that just a known limitation of the SA-19's and SA-15's detection range?

Some new Ipadpit video's
SinandGrin replied to Ghost_unit13's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This is a great use of the iPad, and since I just bought one I have been looking for cool things like this to help immerse my self in the A-10 experience. I would love to see a knee board app/program too with access to checklists, a line-9 brief form, and a mission brief card. There seems to be others with the same desires so I look forward to what is brought to the sim community. Thanks for your efforts here Ghost! -
Ah this helped clarify it for me too, thanks. I am always looking for a better way to control my view and with both of my rotaries on my Seitek X52 available this may workout well.

This is all great material in a very useful size. I think i will adopt this size and make all my checklists and reference material in this A5 size. Thank you all! BTW has anyone started to work on some of the other checklist from the flight manual such as, Emergency procedures, weapons deployment, EGI navigation, ect... If i get some free time this weekend maybe i can hammer that stuff out.

How to untangle the Lightning pod
SinandGrin replied to Frogfoot1606687865's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Slew it around like aaron said to get it off any area or point track, then you should be able to boresight it with the china hat aft short command. -
I have tried an ILS approach and I too felt the sensitivity in general, for both the localizer and the glideslope were a lot more sensitive than they would be in real life. Also the OBS knob in real life has no effect on the CDI indication of the localizer it simply helps the pilot with situational awareness to align the CDI with the extended centerline of the landing runway (you are correct RogueRunner) but in the game it was affecting the CDI's deviation which it should not do. I had to fly the approach visually the first time to "find the best" OBS setting that would give me reliable localizer cues to compensate for this issue. Once I had that dialed in it was ok, other than the extremely over sensitive glideslope and mildly over sensative localizer. All in all it was do-able to get the plane on the ground, but not 100% correct or realistic in my opinion, but maybe military ILSs are slightly different than civilian hardware, although I doubt it.

Very good description guys. Thanks for all the clarification!

Ok so then what is the point in going into the DSMS page and augmenting a weapon profile to be CCIP or CCRP, if you can bring up the CCIP or CCRP with the master mode button and then select the weapon profile of your choice. It seems like and extraneous or non needed option to have in the DSMS settings.
-
Ah very good question. I would also like to know how the profile setting, either CCIP, or CCRP in the DSMS compares to the master mode i am in for bombing. Does anyone know?

SFJackBauer's Saitek X-52 Profile
SinandGrin replied to SFJackBauer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for your help, I looked at your .pr0 file and I too did not see anything programed into the SST. Is this a problem with there being a difference between your X-52 and my X-52pro? If you could just tell me what you setup in the SST i could go through and replicate your setup by myself. thanks! -
SFJackBauer's Saitek X-52 Profile
SinandGrin replied to SFJackBauer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm glad people are starting to work on their HOTAS profiles and thanks Jackbauer for sharing yours.:joystick: I am just starting to get a handle on the avionics/combat/aircraft flight systems, which i feel you need to have a firm grasp of before you start to build any HOTAS configuration. In the mean time as I solidify my understanding of this great sim it would be nice to see how others are choosing to setup their X-52/X-52pro HOTASs. It seems to me that the throttle and stick on the X-52pro lacks some dedicated hat switches and I foresee having to use modifiers in the SST profile program to make up for the lack of hardware buttons. What are others doing? -
Thanks Ells for the quick checklist. I can't wait until I have in my hand some nice laminated checklists. Hopefully soon.

I was wondering if anyone had taken the time yet to put together a list of all the default keyboard commands. As I understand it the only information is found in the options menu. I was thinking of putting in some time and typing it all out, but wanted to see if anyone else had completed a list yet.

Yes! Thanks again Nate!

Done and done! This is a great way to use the beta community to help push developers to respond to the inevitable demand for integration between this amazing simulator and 3'rd party devices.

I am so thankful that a beta version has been released and we are able to get our hands on this awesome sim a bit sooner! As I write this my desktop computer at home is downloading the sim and it should all be there when i make it back from this business trip i am on. What I was hoping for though was some way to download the User Manual now on my laptop so that i may start to read through it at the hotel tonight. I do not have the fastest internet connection here at the hotel, so the idea of download 4+ GBs of data just to get my hands on the 300-500 MB User Manual does not make a whole lot of sense. Is there anyway someone might be able to host a torrent or share the user manual online so that I and anyone else could get this document without having to download the entire sim? Thanks in advance!

Wow, I knew it wasn't going to be cheap, but...:surprise: Where in that link though does it mention a price?

What was your opinion then of the Producer Note #2 video? Did the sounds in the youtube video of the A-10C's APU and engines sound like the sim does to you when you fly it? I'm not sure if the sounds were DCS stock sounds for the video, since the code is still in an Alpha state and to me at least sounded just like that of the KA-50, or if the audio compression on youtube was to blame as some people commented on. Either way I am very excited to see what the final product will offer.
