Moa - Seeing tactics in use like that is another world for me compared to single player vs AI. The learning curve just shot up again! Once I get my damned headphones (mic feedback on teamspeak) sorted i will be online again. I had no intention of starting a "my server is bigger than your server**" debate. I was just curious why I couldn’t find a lot of the squadron servers listed on the forums in my game browser. I actually assumed it was a ping-thing or some sort or a problem my end as the browser is so basic. I want to try out a lot of the servers as it’s the missions that interest me. Death match games get boring IMO, (that’s why capture the flag was invented after all). Grimes & 3sqn “capturing Maykop” looks very interesting and immersive. Want to try them all….. Like I said, I haven’t really got beyond the lone wolf stage yet. Small steps… **my server is actually smaller than yours I’ll bet. Just set up a tiny wee monster. Dual socket Xeon gulftown (12/24 cores, 24gb or RAM, 15k SAS drives) and only 1U!. Would make a mint FC2.0 server if only I could talk my boss into it……:smilewink:

Wow. Communication has evolved to the level of purely referential dialogue. Soon children will be taught to utter hyperlinks from the womb. :D

I can’t remember what num 0 is supposed to do. Try the key for "long range boresight" and point at something you know is there. Also, on the radar, switch to small azimuth [technical term ;)] and you should see the azimuth gates tracking the cursor as you move it left and right. Without ERI working it doesn’t do that. (IMO ERI is worth it just for that!) As for the "step target" key, I’ve got no idea if that works, as it doesn’t seem to do anything for me. Maybe my next door neighbour’s porch light is going on and off when i press it  I haven’t tried LEAVU yet as I don’t want to be server banned online.

Cheers guys for all your advice. I had a go on friday night but couldn't get teamspeak working properly. It was fine my end but just gave feedback to others, (as some unfortunate american guy was subjected to my wailing speaker whilst i was giving it, "one-two testing") I reckon it was because my speakers were still switched on. I will try again later in the week. One thing i noticed online. When i get hit, the screen switched to a picture from the airport tower. Not very friendly. I guess its because outside views are disabled. ho hum.

heh! never post untill you have had your morning coffee and whilst talking to someone in another room at the same time, ("yes dear, in a minute dear"). I have removed the "testes". [tested - edit] Anyway, "bumfire"..............:megalol:

as for LOMAC & win 7, the Dutch flankers aced it http://www.dutch-flankers.nl/wiki/index.php?title=Installing_Flaming_Cliffs_on_Windows_7 but, if you have upgraded your OS, i am assuming you have a new PC? then get FC2.0. you will not regret it! i also did a "gotchas" guide a while back which may help; http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=50471

I had to fiddle to get the keybinds to work. make sure you clear any bindings ingame. you can verify the kebindings in ERI by checking the lines 136-138 in ERI_radar.lua check out http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd375731(VS.85).aspx for numeric keypad ascii codes. remember to make sure numlock is on though. i made that mistake ( a million times )

Cheers yoda! That was the one tiny bit of the whole mod that i couldnt live with. Everything else is spot on in my humble opinion. :)

i thought it was the squadron dog I keep running over. No ones been taking it for a walk and it likes to sleep under my F-15 . nice and warm.

once you have "succeeded" a mission, go "back" after the briefing then you should have the option to go to the next mission. at work so i cant supply screen grabs

Please don t send ma a collective forehead slap for this query, but, when starting a game online I begin, engines cold in a hardened shelter with the doors just opening. When my engines reach 70% and I have taxi clearance, (aren’t I well behaved?), I have to really go for it to get moving. It doesn’t do that on a taxiway or from an outdoor parking spot. I mean that I have to go almost to full AB to get over “the hump”. Now either; I have to press a key to remove chocks, (as in some flight Sims I recall from the dim and distant past) There is a really big front door step on those hangers There is a key for some sort of “wheel lock” in place on hanger start-up, (tried the wheel brake as in FSX) There is a big elastic band attached to my tail Going to full AB whilst in a hanger is surely a violation of Health and Safety :smilewink:

in your FC temp folder. thats the defualt i believe

ah! separate files, (slaps forehead), of course. cheers for doing the detective work!

To whoever was on the red team flying in a two ship mig-29, (and I think a mig-31), southbound over the mountains at waypoint 2. Congratulations sirs! In my F-15, I was so task focussed on the mig-29 on my left, (both coming head on at me at 30mn, medium alt), that his wingman was able to passively lock me up and kill me with an IR missile, whist I was in SARH avoidance mode. My neighbours could probably hear my, “WHEY AYE!!”, when the heater hit me. I logged out and went and had a good think. I had been having some success over the mountains, being careful to avoid more than 1v1 unless there were other friendless in the area to distract my targets. The valleys are good to hide in, when extending away after a salvo of aim-120c’s goes active. But two fighters actively supporting each other with complementary attack strategies was a conundrum that I couldn’t solve. This has brought me to an interesting impasse. Lone wolf flying is fine in a 1v1 furball, or for sneaky hit & run valley sorties, but in a medium altitude head on fight with competent supportive players? I need to start flying WITH people or limit my engagement parameters. Right! Headset sourced Teamspeak installed See you tonight after pub! (I will be the one no one can understand):drink::pilotfly::drunk: BTW - on the server list, the 104th seems to be the only open server with more than 6 people playing on it. Are there others not on that list? (51st, 3sqn, 159th, etc. don’t appear on my list)

ERI Query Yoda. I really cant get on with the "auto snap" as it stops me bugging closely grouped targets in TWS mode, (keeps snapping to the already bugged PDT). Either i am doing it wrong, (probably), or its a design feature. Can you advise? Or tell me how to disable that feature as I love the other thngs it does, (azimuth tracking, etc). Also a dumb-ass question. What does the "target step" do. Does is swap PDT / SDT between bugged targets or is it a way of bugging multiple contacts. I have not been able to conclusively test this yet, ( I should set up a none lethal mission really :pilotfly:) If it does the latter then that solves my earlier problem!

which was the file you altered for RWR / SPO ? i listened to them all but must have missed it :helpsmilie:

A word of warning chaps. When i recommended black vipers page i should have added a health warning. If you are unsure of what you are doing or how to recover from shutting down something you shouldn’t have then step back, (do a system restore if you like, or a full backup / image). Always have an exit route, (as in FC2.0!) blackvipers site shows the default service list for various OS (and his stripped down versions scenarios. Some without networking, so be careful!), so you should be able to get back to where you started. Remember though that services that aren’t listed may be present in your system because of applications you have installed. 40 odd running processes sounds about normal to me. Vista & Win 7 have that many easily. I have 66 on my works laptop, but I’ve got all sorts of SQL bollocks in it. (note. xp had far fewer process running as separate applets because it had more running under the kernel, which lead to instability as if one of them crashed the whole OS came down) Check out sysinternals, (now owned by MS) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx Process explorer and process monitor should prove illuminating. Google what you don’t recognise but don’t treat Google posts as truth. I’ve seen posts on web forums stating that “system idle process is a virus” and people believing it as gospel because it was on the internet. To go back to your original post, “hide Microsoft services” is your friend as shutting anything none-MS shouldn’t harm windows. Apple bonjour, nvidia, and other bumf can all be done without having running 100% IMO. Just don’t disable your AV! good advice. I didn't mean to repeat :music_whistling: no, they run under what used to be called in the XP days, "hardware profiles". These were removed by MS in Vista/7 IIRC

ah right. i thought i had a corrupted download of that sample or something. hmmmmmm. not sure if i like that as a loop, (each to their own). i can always not use that one .wav file though. cheers
-
cheers Frazer, thats been driving me (and other half) mad for ages. as regards to the sound sliders, can you set the AWACS & JTAC volume defaults in the same place as i always find AWACS way too loud and the JTAC, (in the A019 campain), almost inaudible.
-
diveplane - congrats on this mod. its clear that you have worked your arse off on such a huge project. I am just exploring the new sounds and have a couple of simple first day queries; The cockpitsystems.wav / .ogg has a couple of , (what sound like), glitches in the first few second sof the med & high versions, (0.00 - 0.05). Are these intentional, ("radio static & engine sounds")? If so, they grate a bit when looped. The AB sound (in the F-15 at least) seems far less bass heavy. should i "crank it up" at my end? What are 'your' slider settings in-game. I know no two sound setups are the same but i have beem messing around with mine for ages and never got ot right to my satisfaction, (either AWACS too loud, JTAC inaudible, RWR volume too high, cant hear flares / landing gear, etc). Overall though, its like playing a new game. In fact, as I try new planes, with modMan I can easily do a before / after comparison and hear just how much of a difference it makes. Viva las mods!

singleplayer - map a button on your stick to rear view for a quick snapshot view. multiplayer - most servers disable this so you will have to "play it real". Jink, left or right to get a better view round the seat / rail, and use your mirrors. Overall, f you think there is a bandit on your six then you really NEED to find out.

Check out black vipers site; http://www.blackviper.com/ congifs for each os with recommended service status. That's what I use as a starting point

really really looking forward to trying this. girlfriend be-damned! TURN IT UP!

F-15 Re-engagement procedure best practice
coolts replied to coolts's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Could you expand on that please? :book: Assuming you mean, "AUTO GUNS (GUN) AACQ Mode", then this is exctly what i want to avoid in the F-15. With a load of AIM-120C's under my wing i don't want to be in a close dogfight. I want to know the best way to get back to a decent launch range,(how far to go), and how best to re-aqquire. So far, using vertical scan and dragging along the horizon quickly, usually locks up a wingman or gets me shot down. -
Guys I am having trouble in the FC2.0 F-15 campaign towards the end. This is my current BVR procedure. Please feel free to pull it apart as I am keen to learn better ways of doing things. 1. Take off and wait for wingmen to form up, head to assigned waypoint climbing to assigned altitude. 2. AWACS call bandit group bearing and range (assume a flight of 4 Flankers here vs 4 x F-15). 3. Acquire bandits on radar; put ECM off nose so I am not closing too fast. 4. Once AWACS calls bandits within 40mn, assign one wingman to engage my HOJ signal. Radar can’t differentiate HOJ strobes and always seems to lock onto the same one so I can usually get one wingman engaging here. 5. Once I hit ECM burn through, and following Vens strategy, (from his excellent AAR’s), I assign 2 more wingmen to targets and one to cover me. I will launch on at least two targets in TWS if I can just to give them something to think about whilst my wingmen go in. 6. Once I have launched, I crank to my radar gimbal limits to maintain lock but make his missile do more work, slowing down and losing altitude preparing to notch. Once my missiles have gone pitbull, I will notch the inevitable SARH missiles heading my way. 7. Once I have notched the SARH, at this point I usually hit the deck and run dumping flares and swivelling my head for IR’s following me, letting my team do some of the close in fighting as with labels off, I can’t see anything until it explodes! 8. I call AWACS and once the fight is about 10-15 mn behind me I do a high G turn at corner speed to re-engage. I have the AWACS general bearing to the bandit group but if I set my radar to 10 or 20mn, I have such a narrow vertical scan zone available that unless I guess the bandits altitude accurately and set my radar accordingly, I will probably miss them and bumble straight into their sights. If I switch to boresight scan, I can only find the bandits if they are within my tiny boresight cone and that rules out vertical scan as well. I have tried using vertical scan and pulling my lift vector across the horizon but that rarely works and of course the AI knows exactly where I am, (or seems to). (In any case, bore-sight and vertical....thing.. are only for close in dogfighting really.) If I run to 20-30mn and turn, I can get a better view, but by that point the initiative has been lost, my wingmen are dying and / or our escort duty has failed. So my question is. How do YOU re-engage from 10-20 nm? You only have a few seconds to acquire and launch as you will be in the NEZ and living very dangerously! Ps. the Ka-50 data link makes this sort of SA maintenance much easier!
