Still a radar problem??? Is this after the hot fix? Also...I can’t tell the altitude of the enemy plane from your screens. You are set at 2 bars and he is close. Looks like your scanning 29,000-31,000 ft. Is it possible he’s below or above that? Just throwing it out there? -

I’ve noticed on 3 occasions that my DDI/HUD/MFD get dark and hard to read. When I look closer, all of my switches are set to “night mode”. On all three displays. When I turn back to day mode, they are fine. But it’s all of them. Switch above each MFD as well as the color display. Not sure if this is what’s happening for you guys -

If you don’t already know, both the immortal aircraft and inoperable radar are known bugs. HOW a change in a small patch managed to disable an entire radar system Excepting ACM boresight is a mystery to me. Well, as much of a Mystery as is what caused AI aircraft to become indestructible. -
Can’t roll back to last OB patch with Steam version....but you can roll back to the stable version. At least you can use your radar and - you know- actually shoot down aircraft with your big-boy missles

I’m confused. How do I laser designate a target I have designated with TDC depress? Used to box “trigger” after the laser was turned on. Then pull trigger to activate laser. How does it work now? Do I NOT box trigger? Haven’t had a chance to play around yet

Man....this simulation is incredibly complex. So many moving parts and interactions. There are bound to be little things that affect other things in mysterious ways. I’m glad it worked. I posted as a bug some time ago but was told to repair my game by some...that in addition to the standard “are you setting the frequencies to match” stuff. Oh well.

I’d be happy if my AI flights would simply fly to the waypoint that says “bomb”...and then actually drops bombs on the target the triangle is on. Instead, they fly up to the target, kick in afterburners, climb, bank and head out for 10-20nm before repeating

I’ve been having thus problem with LGBs not tracking and missing by 20-100”. Tried everything until I saw a post where a guy found that -after a patch- LGBs dont work on a map for a user created mission in the ME. You must open a new map and create the scenario on that. Well, sure enough...that worked! Not sure if that is happening here, but if you are having these issues in scenarios you created in the mission editor and you made this scenario before the last patch....maybe try a new map

When you hit, yes...not as you are rolling past the 3 wire. Looking at the vapor, it looks like he hit near one and it’s still up. Main gear takes the hit and then push it into the deck. You don’t fly flared like landing an f-16 on a runway. You don’t see many carrier landings where the Bolter is moving across the deck with the nose wheel up. So...just yes, if he is hitting with his nose too high and bouncing the bar. As soon as the main gear hits, push it into the deck

Yeah, you’re past the 3 wire and it LOOKS like your nose wheel is still up in the air. Hard to tell. But you can’t hit the carrier flared like you would on an air field. Need to watch your AoA and push that plane flat on the deck.

Haven’t experienced the bars but have had the flir on the left page. Also, when I hit “uncage” for the FLIR, instead of pointing at the horizon, it looks behind me and down. Wth

I agree. Not sure how anyone can say the JF is a realistic model considering there aren’t any unclassified and independent test/performance data. All the info we have on the JF is performance capabilities provided by the Chinese government, anecdotal comments from pilots and inferences about what things COULD do. China still isn’t able to design and build a modern jet engine and 80% of its airforce is reverse engineered Soviet aircraft. Yet we’re supposed to believe that China produced an aircraft that can outperform the F-16 and has avionics/radar superior to any western aircraft? I’d also add that several “bugs” seem to ere on the side of increased performance. Most notably, the JF’s radar cannot he notched in the game even though it is a pulse Doppler. Also, the missile warning system is an IR system that detects the flash of a missile launch; yet the DCs JF can magically detect ANY missile within 6 miles regardless of how far away it was launched or even if the motor is still burning! This is just MY OPINION and not based on anything other than my own biases and experiences....but it seems to me that the JF in DCS is the JF the Chinese want it to be; what they want people to believe it is. There is no data supporting a lot of its capabilities which is why DCS has no business introducing an aircraft that wasn’t deployed until 2009 in a game taking place in 2008. Too new.

Not sure I understand. Are you asking if you can fly camping missions in the F-18with “immortality” checked? Not sure but what’s the fun in that? Immortality is for training when your first learning how to dogfight, dodge missles, etc and you don’t want to respawn all the time.

I set home as my last waypoint. If I’m low on fuel and have to divert, I use Tacan. I write down the tacan freq. for all airbases enroute

Just because they might improve something or update something doesn’t make it Incomplete. I’d say the Mig-21, Viggen, F-14, F-86, Mig 15 and Mig 19 are all complete. The F-18, AV-8 and Jf-17 are pretty dang close. The F-16 is what I would call “incomplete” as it is missing enough to make it impact my enjoyment

Might be in one of the dogfighting modes. Bind a button for “cycle dogfighting mode”. This switches between gun/missile/off (usually known as “center”)

Try reading “Black Aces High”. It’s all about the A2G role the F-14 played in Serbia/Kosovo in 1999. Follows a specific squadron as they learn to use the lantirn and Tarps pod in a tactically significant way. But yes, it was the Navy’s equivalent of the F-15E. It’s only long range heavy hauling A2G platform. Replaced by the Superhornet which- b/c it carried 33% more fuel and ordinance, was capable of long range interdiction. Before then, the F-18 was just to short legged -
Hell, I love flying the F-14 just because of how much I love flipping switches and hearing them click!
