fixed What's wrong with night vision? Ground is all black.
Mikeck replied to b0bl00i's topic in General Bugs
I dont have a track to post but Turn on NVGs on Syria map. If you turn up the gain enough to see the ground, you get blinded by any light source on the ground (like city). Turn then down to where ground lights are not drowning the NVGs and you can’t see any terrain. I kind of thought this was a known thing. I’ll try and post something but I’m not great with that stuff -
Anyone hear anything further? I’ve been learning the Mig-21 over the last 3 weeks just to play this. And since the world revolves around my needs, I don’t understand why I don’t have it yet…

Any and all of them frankly

Using DCS aircraft to simulate an earlier version/past conflict
Mikeck replied to Gambit21's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I really enjoy modeling mission scenarios taking place pre-1992 or so. For me, it’s more about the lack of detailed electronic warfare than ease of use of weapons. In reality, attacking an integrated SA-10 (s-300) site without EW support is a bad idea. So it’s hard setting up a realistic modern AD system if we don’t have one of the major capabilities to destroy it. If the bad guys can’t have a realistic (or close) modern AD system, it’s too easy to lob JDAMs. so, I prefer a few SA-10s supported by older SA-6s, SA-11’s etc more representative of a mid 80’s environment. So fair is fair. Limit their systems, Limit mine -
missing info Good God, AIM7s somehow got worse
Mikeck replied to LastRifleRound's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I like sparrows even in more modern fights b/c I don’t have to be as careful firing into a group with friendlies in the area. It hits who I want or it misses who I want. No worries about a pitbull tearing into whatever piece of meat it detects first that said, I HAVE noticed f-18 radar dropping lock a lot. Last night, I was coming into tank snd locked up the c-130 from 10nm out. Vc of 50-100 and it kept dropping the lock! I mean, same altitude and there is a closing speed of 100knots against a target the size of a barn from 10 miles away! I lost lock 6 times between 10 miles out and 2 miles out. as for sparrows: same luck as you. Which is to say, none. They don’t seem to track. I never report it because even with a track I usually get a “unable to reproduce”. So, I let the universe move as it will -
I just experienced this too. Only reason I think it’s a bug is because when I played the mission a second time, I was locking them up easily. First time I had boresight ACM mode selected: Hind was in the circle from 5 miles all the way until it almost went through my windscreen and no lock. No matter the mode, range, angle, etc Started the mission over and this time I was picking them up as usual. Who knows. All I can say is that the “helicopters are hard to pick up” is ridiculous. Hinds have an enormous cross section and Doppler shouldn’t matter when I’m 2 miles away with my radar beam blasting it in boresight

correct as-is Should the TGP be this difficult?
Mikeck replied to dporter22's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Yep. Tgp on the F-16 is a pain…but I think that’s the way it works. I gave up using the TGP with Mavs -
reported earlier Litening pod won’t slew to waypoint
Mikeck replied to Mikeck's topic in Bugs and Problems
What works for me is setting up the TPOd on the MfD of your choice. Then make the HUD SOI. Then you can click waypoint/target designate on the HSI or SA and the TPOd slews fine. Once it slews ro the waypoint, make the TPOd MFD SOI and play as usual. Switching left and right never worked so DMS up, then waypoint/target designate, then DMS back to whatever screen has the TPOd display and play as usual -
Well, you seem to have an issue with GR and you can’t understand why ED does not. Perhaps it’s not universally accepted that the things you claim are correct (like use of N words repeatedly). If you don’t like them, fine. But there are ALOT of people who watch and love the videos and a lot of people (myself included) were introduced to DCS (and spent a lot of $$$ on it) as a result of those entertaining vids. I use their tutorials often as just that: a turorial. It’s not a substitute for a manual. is there another YouTube site where I can get a tutorial for doing almost anything to every module? so OP, check out GR and see if the tutorial gets your plane started. They are easier to follow than many I’ve seen that almost expect that you have a working knowledge of the aircraft already. If not your style, there are others. But don’t be dissuaded from helpful info because someone else doesn’t like them nor understand why anyone else does

reported earlier WPDSG moving to point in front of aircraft
Mikeck replied to Scotflieger's topic in Bugs and Problems
Have the Same issue. Waypoint designate will bit slew the TGP pod and instead “creates” the target point in front of the Aircraft. Apparently the problem resolves if you switch TGP to another MFD and back? No track file but looks like someone above posted -

Got it. Thanks ! -
reported earlier Litening pod won’t slew to waypoint
Mikeck replied to Mikeck's topic in Bugs and Problems
Ok...can you explain what you mean by “set TDC to another screen”? Do you mean TGP? Or make another screen SOI? -
Did I miss something in an update on the litening TGP pod and waypoints? When I waypoint designate on either my HSI or SA, the TGP pod simply locks whatever area it’s looking at and won’t automatically slew to the selected waypoint. Been flying the F-18 for 2.5 years and never had an issue. not sure how to find a target on the pod if I can’t use coordinates to create a waypoint and then hit weapon designate to make the pod jump to it what am I not doing now that I should be? atflir won’t slew automatically when I weapon designate the waypoint either

Seems like you’re more interested in making it “better” b/c you like the mirage and want it to be that way. Whatever limitations the missile has in game are likely fairly accurate. You can’t expect them to make a missle better than other missiles just b/c you want game balance or to be able to kill stuff easier with your mirage. An Aim-9m is an Aim-9m....and other missiles that- in reality- are worse...or better are reflected that way in game. It’s not war thunder striving for balance
-
I’d recommend the Mirage. Cockpit isn’t too graphics heavy, it’s a full fidelity module but isn’t complicated. It can do air-to ground but the weapon choices are limited: not a bad thing if you are keeping it simple. I’m not a fan of the F-5....it’s like a trainer plane....the equivalent of the go cart i drove before I could drive a car. Weak engines, limited air to air capability (in terms of mid range/radar issues the mirage is a great dog fighter, decent at BVR and can haul ass. You can mess around with ECM pods (in addition to chaff/flares), has a modern INS navigation for easy traveling and doesn’t require a lot of switch flipping or button pushing since it doesn’t have any MFDs. Plus, it’s gorgeous and it’s 30mm cannon are great for blowing up F-5s in the air and on the ground. if you want a plane that can do everything and is only as complicated as you want to make it (as in: “how many different types of weapons do I want to learn”) the F-18 is good. You can always just shoot airplanes and drop dumb bombs with it and it’s as simple as any other so buy a big-boy plane....

Basically, you are going to have to suspend a bit of disbelief. You can get close to a late 80’s load out BUT still, many of the systems created in the 80’s that we have in DCS are versions upgraded in the 1990’s. For example, the harpoon you use in DCS is not going to be modeled after a harpoon used in 1987. It will be upgraded. The F/A-18C itself has received a number of upgrades since its arrival that can’t be “rolled back” so just do the best you can...turn on DL, use iron/cluster bombs and Aim-7s and go nuts
-
Radius. You can pull that nose around faster than any other aircraft (on par with mirage)....once. It bleeds a lot of energy. But the hornet can hold such a high angle of attack that you can pull that nose around in a 1 circle fight before the bad guys 2/3 through his. Just make sure that if you do that, you kill him...or you have altitude to regain energy it’s not a bad rate fighter at all....just not as good as an f-16 or f-14. But there isn’t a better radius 1-circle fighter around (absent f-22 and F-35...the latter able to pull higher AoA than even the Hornet)

Will you be able to go from 2.5.6 to 2.7 ?
Mikeck replied to dbunger's topic in Installation Problems
I have missions downloaded back in 1.5 that still work and I haven’t touched a thing. I would hope that ED would put something in the code that automatically sets old missions with new default weather. Meaning, If I play a single player user mission I downloaded last week from the ED website, whatever weather setting it has will automatically be converted to present the new clouds (or at least default clear skies) id hate to think ALL of those missions would have to be manually edited -
I thought I was ordering an F-100 and I want my money back
-
Yeah, problem for me is that unless I have some slight positive G (1.2-1.5), I always seem to drop on release and hit my own bombs. So, like the Viggen, when I level bomb CCIP, I just drop a bit early: “Kentucky Windage”
-
Question has been answered but I’ll pig-pile. Assuming you’re looking at 1989/1990. I’d say air to air stick to Aim-9M and Aim-7M for A/G, no litening pod. Can use all “dumb” weapons (cluster, iron and rockets.) You can also use AGM-65E with a “buddy lase” from a ground unit or aircraft that had that capability. The problem here is the F-18 DID have self-lasing....just not with the litening pod: so maybe pretend a bit? Restrict range? can use HARM and HARPOON (although these models are a bit newer....is there really THAT much of a difference?) agm-65 F was used but mainly for ships....but it WAS around. If you look at the work F/A-18s did in Desert Storm, it was A/A with aim-9m and aim-7m. A/G was mainly dumb bombs: mk 83’s and 84’s and cluster munitions. Most of the laser guided work was the f-111s, F-15Es and F-117s

I’m not sure SEAD will ever be truly realistic in DCS. You don’t attack an S-300 site with HARMs...DCS doesn’t model the sophisticated EW equipment that is used- in conjunction with JSOW or other heavier ordinance like JDAMs (from high altitude). The USAF isn’t attacking an S-300 With a handful of aircraft armed with HARMS. Those are used for smaller sites and point self defense.

Happens to me a lot. I don’t fire until under 5NM and it’s still a 60-70% chance of missing.
-
To be clear, it’s not throttle position...I’ve started the jet- it’s up and running- and when I ask I am told they cannot comply. If the throttle was set wrong, the plane would not have started and this has happened to me once or twice on the F-18 as well
