Total long shot, but I was curious if anyone knew of a Russian to English translation of Burnt skies of Afghanistan (auth Markovsky - attached)? If not, any bored Russian linguists want to give it a crack!?

This is awesome! Already got some nice historical Soviet/Afghan missions going using the MiG-21 and a translation of 'Burnt Skies of Afghanistan'. This terrain is very similar to much of Afghanistan actually. It's great how immersive it is. Awesome work Starway!

Hi all. I wanted to share something that I think would make DCS World a much more dynamic and challenging flight simulator, and that is the addition of a few more AAA units. Specifically, the introduction of a range of gun/artillery systems that both increase lethality at lower altitudes, as well as extend the non-SAM lethal altitude above the current 23mm systems, would be fantastic, and really give pilots a chance to fly through a more deadly and rounded IADS. The kinds of gun and artillery systems I think would work are: ZPU-4 (or single/double barrelled systems) I acknowledge this is somewhat covered by current in game 23mm systems 37 mm automatic air defense gun M1939 (61-K) 57 mm AZP S-60 85 mm air defense gun M1939 (52-К) 100 mm air defense gun KS-19 I recently visitied the B-52 victory museum in Hanoi (highly recommended for any Linebacker II enthusiasts) and snapped the attached photos of these very systems lined up. For someone without a coding bone in his body, I would be appreciative of any insight into how realistic a project like this might be. While I couldn't do the work myself, I would be more than happy to investigate funding perhaps a single system if it was not a laborious project (again, I have no idea!). I know Beczl attempted to build some AAA systems before *that* issue occurred, but otherwise I haven't found anything out there. Anyway, just my two cents worth! :) Happy to hear from the experts on how feasible this is, and thoughts on how it might (or might not) improve the game.

Hi all. I was hoping to get some help with something, and please know I have tried to find any related forum threads that would help (without luck). I'm curious if we can enable the native Russian voice for the DCS Mi-8 missions and campaign? For me it destroys the immersion to have my Australian co-pilot start reading initial navigation instructions! Help!

DCS: Mi-8MTV2 English Flight Manual
Wizz replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Awesome guys! This is very much appreciated :) -
The fan isn't about functionality or aesthetics - rather it's a metaphor for the whole DCS experience. I see a large device in front of me, and dammit I want to turn it on.

Nice video! I didn't even realise they had added the feature on. It's added a new dimension to flying this legend - many thanks!

Maybe the F-15C? :music_whistling::)

You might need to hit the 'open cover' keyboard command before trying to jettison stores (in board and outboard pylons). I have these mapped to my spring loaded TM Warthog throttle switches, and they work just fine. There does seem to be a glitch (I don't think would be a real feature?) where the inboard stores jettison switch loops the sound for weapons/tanks etc coming off the aircraft.

Open up the mission editor, and then open the training files. You can then tick the labels box and save that mission. Labels will now be on as default. Personally I don't like labels (immersion), but I admit I found the same issues with the radar/missile/gun tutorials, and having the labels on has been immensely educational in better (and more quickly) understanding the systems.

Agree! I love this module, and it is certainly my favourite of all! (KA-50 follows closely behind, and the A-10C will always have a special place). I'm methodically working my way through the tutorials and manual. I fired my first missiles today, although I'm pretty comfortable navigating around the map using the various navigation methods. I like to progress in a logical and slow fashion, trying to learn as much as I can about a system/process before I move on :) I did jump back in the A-10C for a quick flight, and was just amazed at how different it felt. Great aerodynamics (obviously low and slow), and awesome situational awareness. Put an AGM-65 through a SAM site, and just marvelled at how user friendly the whole experience is. I only mention the A-10C comparison to emphasise how much I really love the MiG-21Bis! It's such a deep aircraft, and one truly worthy of a DCS title! Thanks LN! You guys rock :) :) :)

Okay Mrgud, I figured it out (I'm a slow learner!). Map your flaps up and down switch to the respective positions (photo attached).
-
Mrgud, if it makes you feel better, I can't figure it out either :) All I want to do is have my TM Hog flaps switch do the same thing in Mig-21. Can one of you fine learned gentlemen maybe throw up a screen shot of the key assignment? :) Sorry to be painful...

Thanks Tetra!

Good man Nick. What a hell of a journey for you guys! Must be nice to be close to release. Bravo Sir, Bravo.

Has there been a truer statement about how DCS (and certainly the MiG-21 experience) works in reality! I'm looking forward to my key as a backer, but I really feel supporting LN on the first day with an ED online purchase is good for everyone - the community foremost (really guys - let's invest in LN [what could be next?]). A little now might mean a lot later... ;)

Awesome . I know it's not the best place, but check out this awesome MiG-21 video. Best I've seen. It will make waiting for the manual more bearable...

Me hiding the excitement at work! So. Friggin. Excited.

http://theaviationist.com/2014/09/05/mi-8-incident-video/ Big stab of collective at the end looks like an unfortunate vortex ring situation. Vertical descent over 2ms and life becomes tenuous.
