  1. I’m not talking about sound
  2. One 20mm to the wings and it will go down :(
  3. Is that v the AI per chance? I find a 450kt turn at 7g will reduce you shuddering to sub 300 every time!
  4. IM, thanks for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it and look forward to flying the results ... the 14 just gets better and better :)
  5. Hi Hummingbird, I love 'flying' the 14 that HB have created and agree 100% ... like you, I want it to be as accurate as possible - its good and bad points. However, phrase like 'things like the would never be done in real life.' from the developer give me concern, when there are real pilots saying that they did it in training and damn the consequences, and I'm sure would do it in a real shooting war when a bent plane is less important than death. As the video in Erikki's post points out, its one of the things that made the 14 such a great fighter and did happen! For me, not speaking for anyone else, I like to simulate RL BFM as opposed to training with safety of flight rules, knock it off calls, random faults and maintenance concerns ;) I'm just fortunate I can dump my bent 14 down and grab a new plane for next time! I have serious respect for those that did it for real.
  6. Its a video game ... a great game, but just a game. PS> You may have guessed, I'm not a real pilot ;)
  7. Ok, many thanks for the quick responses gents!
  8. This has happened twice in the PG mission where the 14 launches from the carrier. On landing, I can't get NWS steer to engage. I have a track if that may help.
  9. Have a listen to Paco's brief reference in the first MftC stream ... interesting - yes, full flaps were used during training BFM sorties and yes, there was a significant risk they'd jam, unless you were very careful!
  10. Hi, many thanks for the reply ... I am one of the flap abusers! From my limited understanding, the 225kts limit is a 'soft' limit designed to reduce maintenance rather than a 'they break at 226kts' (like the 14s G soft limit) and that they were used in BFM beyond this speed even in training (as mentioned by Paco in his excellent commentary on MFTC). I'm sure in a real fight to the death, future maintenance issues are probably low on your list of priorities! PS> Love your work on the 14 and thanks again for the quick response!
  11. I know flaps on the 14 are a contentious topic, but any more detailed information on the following changes please?? * Reduced flap pitch moment and adjusted it vs. airspeed * Adjusted flap lift and drag at speeds above deploy speed limit In my very quick test, they seem much draggier. Thanks, James
  12. Given a 2 minute flight, a lot can happen in that time ... what to do if someone wanders into your target's area and is about to get whacked?
  13. Cheers Shahdoh ... so do'able, but not simple.
  14. Is there anyway to attach a trigger to a waypoint, such that 10 seconds before the AI turns, you get a warning??
  15. First practice formation flying regularly (daily) ... forget AAR. Practice closing on another plane and just fly close, then after 5 mins, swap to the other side. Keep doing it until you are happy. Also, when you go back to AAR practice, if you're tired don't do it; if you're getting cross, stop and do something fun ... and remember to breath!
  16. I've had similar random situations where 54s won't launch - certainly in MP. Usually after a couple of missiles have been fired, then for no apparent reason no more will launch, despite a lock on the target, 54 selected ... in panic, I try master arm on/off, select different missiles, cycle the radar modes etc and nothing works, then its time to just turn and run! None of my tracks seem to reliably replay, so not something I can demonstrate.
  17. What works for me, is to load the Oculus software, put the headset on, switch to virtual desktop view and run DCS from there. Otherwise, I get random black screens in the headset (ok on the monitor) etc. I did have a headset die in Dec last year and it took 2 frustrating months of dealing with Oculus support (re-install windows, because that's the problem etc) before they agreed to swap it - the symptoms were random loss of tracking when then headset was on, so don't rule out hardware issues! Not seen anything 14 specific though.
  18. Just read a great RIO site (https://flyandwire.com/2019/09/02/f-14-tdi-aircraft-stabilized/) where interpreting what is shown on the display is discussed and apparently, in a/c stabilised modes you are seeing relative vectors displayed, not target speeds ... is this what you are seeing in that screen cap as the target manoeuvres? When I read what was discussed, my thought was: oh no too much maths!
  19. +1 ... I've certainly done this a few times accidentally.
  20. Did the 54 loft? From memory not very much, I was at 40k-ish. The thing that stood out was that the AA-9 reach max speed very quickly ... I'll try and dig out a screen cap. EDIT: So, 3 screen caps: 1 - AA-9 fired 2 - AA-9 already at M4.4 and 14 has just fired 3 - 54A has just reached M4.4 - AA-9 is already way down range!
  21. Went head to head Mig-31 v F-14 yesterday on MP and was shot down by the 31. My 54 subsequently shot him down. Looking at the track, we fire at approximately the same time, around 40ish miles, but the AA-9 arrived much quicker than my 54A on target. Looking at the track, the AA-9 got to M4.5 almost immediately, where as my 54 accelerated as I'd expect ... Are there issues with AI only missile modelling?
  22. Later this year when the 'Eagerly' awaited next module comes out ;)
  23. Looks great ... how much of this and how will it be controllable for us single seat flyers?
  24. I'll probably switch back next week, I'm sure its just a question of what you're used to (I've been using the TMWH for many years) and I just need to give it time ... unfortunately, I have a comp this weekend and my BFM is bad enough already - wobbling around, my gunnery could be very amusing to watch!
  25. Just had a Warbird base delivered and switched my TMWH stick to it. Nicely built and feels lovely and smooth ... but really not convinced yet - WH handle flops around a lot! Tried stiffer springs but that seemed to make it worse, I seem to be over correcting everything, so switched back to weaker ones. I've switched my base back to TM - boy did it feel stiff! I'll have to give it another go next week. :(
