  1. Evidence? His 14 may have been bent, he doesn't say, but his squadron had free cocktails, beef and shrimps, he was happy!
  2. He doesn't actually say whether he broke the plane or not? Do you think he would? Might spoil his story ;)
  3. Great idea guys, are these tournaments open to 14s with Jester??
  4. Thanks IM, that would be great ... I was looking for something mappable to a couple of buttons, like the RWS/TWS options - simple up x degrees and down. The wheel is great for setting stuff up - radios, nav etc, but for me, the Jester wheel is just too slow and clumsy in a BVR fight and VA never works well enough. For realism, Jester should be able to do it by himself (with machine learning AI), but bless him, I understand if that is going to take you while ;) Or yes, I need a human RIO.
  5. We seem to have a number of useful buttons for assisting Jester to work the radar, eg. RWS/TWS, ground stab/aircraft stab; any chance of getting a pair of buttons to 'Jester scan up' / 'Jester scan down'??? Say in a set number of degree increments ... maybe at 50 miles its 10k'?? Thanks
  6. Indeed ... I'd seen that thread, but it never really happened to me before, I was able to shoot from 70-80 miles fairly reliably and Jester stayed in TWS-A. Since yesterdays patch, it now fails fairly consistently.
  7. Being able to remove the camera is neat; however, now in VR, the normal pointer cross changes to a larger green 'switch below' symbol which is a tad annoying. Perhaps make it an option rather than a in cockpit button?
  8. Shooting at 75 miles in TWS and Jester immediately flips to RWS and starts madly clicking switches again - can eventually get back into TWS at which the 54 starts to climb - target engagement order is now reset ... this shot was working fine before update and I hadn't heard the insane clicking in a while. jF-14B-Bad-7.trk
  9. Cheers IM. For me, I'm happy to trust that you guys know a heck of a lot more about FMs, flaps and computer modelling than I do, regardless of the number of YT videos I watch and wiki pages I read. As for FFH, I've made my donation and withdrawn - I'll be watching and I'm sure it'll be a great success. Any 14s in the comp ... best of luck!
  10. From my in game experience, flaps jam if you put G load on them while they transition from open to close or vice versa. When open, you can certainly go a little over. So unload the jet when you flick the switch. The current implementation seems sensible (add usual disclaimer) - when the motors are running they are susceptible to jamming. The NATOPs limits are a safe level at or below which, they will not jam, they probably have a significant safety built-in. As has been stated, in some squadrons it was done (and the world didn't end), in other it was banned.
  11. Thanks both, I've just discovered there is a key combo for aircraft/ground stab ... maybe switching between modes is the esiest way?? The jester wheel is too fiddly and VC is not reliable enough, but a button press might work.
  12. Further to this, does anyone know a quick way to determine if a bandit is hot or cold from the front seat apart from doing vectors maths in your head?? I know the vector would be 'longer', but is there anything else available on the displays, apart from the vector line to help? I seem to find myself fast and firing on retreating bandits that still show a 'closing' vector :( Is the idea that you only fire at range x when the vector is at least y in length?
  13. +1 Bearfoot. The Jester wheel is an innovative solution, but not easy to use in game when under pressure. I find VA good, but not reliable enough for me ... the story of voice recognition! Also, for me, toggle type key binds a preferable where possible, rather than separate key binds, eg. a pilot RWS/TWS toggle would be preferable to separate RWS and TWS as now.
  14. See the winky face? The RL F-18 is not renowned for its speed ... unlike the DCS one!
  15. IM, yes, that's what I do now, its probably accurate enough ... I'd stay on the closest.
  16. No, but both are probably faster ;)
  17. Try connecting via IP address, then if that doesn''t work you've ruled out DNS ...Then drop youi firewall for a few mins, try again via IP - remember to bring firewall back up after. Are you on stable or beta?
  18. Check the 72/73 tests ... https://www.navy.mil/Resources/Fact-Files/Display-FactFiles/Article/2168381/aim-54-phoenix-missile/ Many of those tests seem to be from subsonic launches. Even if flying from an optimum launch aircraft against an optimum (assume non-manoeuvring, M2, head-on) target, it would suggest the 54s max range in game is too short ... We should be able to launch at 110 miles and still expect a hit :)
  19. Cheers IM, I'll take a look. Great to have that available on the Jester wheel for BVR MP. UPDATE: Does anyone use NAVGRID? Seems very fiddly to set up from the front seat and as soon as jester goes TWS it all goes out of the window :(
  20. Have a look in Chuck's brilliant F-14B guide, p190+ Press “LSHIFT+U” to salute the Shooter I think the SC lines you up automatically
  21. I've not looked into the RIO functionality, but can you tell Jester to centre the ground stabilised view on bullseye from the front seat? Or a waypoint?
  22. Many thanks IM, yes that makes sense ... I guess I'll have to run through some practice intercepts!
  23. It is my understanding that the aircraft stabilised radar display shows relative vectors and the ground stabilised displays shows (IMHO more understandable) absolute vectors for targets. Any way to switch the aircraft stabilised to the absolute vector display (from the front seat) ... A slow bandit flying away from me and it showing a vector line pointing towards me is too much for my brain to handled! Could the real FCS do this? Thanks.
  24. Can I just check, that this is this issue? Where Jester highlights the far number 2 TWS target rather, than the number 1 target?? If so, a fix would be good.
  25. Since updating to 2004 a couple of days ago and flying a few MP games, it hasn't crashed so far ... fingers crossed.
