Interesting ... was Jester's ability to follow targets automatically improved or are you referring to the altitude/range commands buried on the Jester wheel? Looks like it'll be horribly clunky to use!
When I've tried the RADAR, there seems to be an issue: if you disable Jester, they work, but there is a lot you have to map, otherwise, if Jester is still running, the key gets triggered, then seems to reset immediately.
I read somewhere that the idea is to slow the F-18 down in a horizontal turning fight, then take the fight vertical ... you have the power, he can't follow - well, that's the theory!
Mine didn't work, even when I sawed the ears off the lense, and blue-tacked them in place. They fitted but were blurry ... but my glasses fit, although they keep getting jammed.
ED have given me many years of enjoyment (since LockOn) and I love that the planes I bought then and since, still work, getting better and better every year! Thanks, you're doing a great job.
Agreed - its a real pain to have to wait to fill the tanks, then cold start (especially in the F-14 waiting for the INS to align) then take off, fly to the combat area and get SPAMRAMM'ed by an 18 carrying a ridiculous loadout! As you say, some of us just love the flying this fantastic sim and don't have a lot of time!
JUST DOGFIGHT is a great server and worth a look, but can be a bit full on ... 3 v 3 gunzo is just mad :)
I'd be interested in hearing of any servers too.
If I bind the eject action to a button on my joystick (the POV down on my TM WH), it triggers if I press it only once, not 3 times as via the keyboard or in other a/c :(
UPDATE: For info, I use a modifier key in combination with POV down.
Well, you are always going to be at a disadvantage because of its inherent weight ... what fuel load are you flying with? Try flying with a minimal fuel load - the big fighters need to dump fuel!
I fly the 15, so can't really help with specifics.
This is especially a problem when you jump in loaded with fuel and they've been flying a while and burnt fuel ... remember 2degs/sec is a significant advantage and being 6000lbs heavier might drop you 5degs/sec
Only way I've been able to do it reliably is with terrain masking or sometimes extreme manoeuvring to defeat the missile in the last few seconds, where its high speed works against it :(
So he is watching what you are doing and changing his tactics in reaction to you ... Basic BFM: 'manoeuvre in relation to the bandit', he is obviously no beginner.
BFM is hard, no easy solution ... keep watching him for hints of what he will do and react - probably not a lot of help sorry.
Not sure if you've read up on BFM, but try searching for 'aetcttp11-1' ... very helpful.
Try watching some of the recent TopGun 2019 videos for other tips ... Stuge does a great commentary :)
PS> We could do with a Tactics section on the forum.
