  1. IDE-SATA adapter problems Does anybody have experience with IDE-SATA adapters? I mentioned in THIS post that the DVD drive is not in use due to the location of my IDE hard drive = the IDE cable can't reach both the hard drive and DVD. Right now I got rid of IDE cable completely with IDE/SATA adapter on my old hard drive but the DVD drive is still inoperational. Even though a new DVD drive would cost only like 20 €, I didn't want to throw away a perfectly working drive so I bought an ATAPI/IDE - SATA adapter that's supposed to work with DVD drives. Except that it won't. I've tried all the jumper settings and without jumper, changing SATA ports, checking BIOS but it won't recognize the drive. The drive opens when the button is pressed and the adapter power LED is on. I will try to change the SATA cable in case the one that came with adapter is broken and I'll try to change the SATA port to SATA1 which is supposed to be for the boot drive. Another adapter I had already worked straight away with my hard drive when I set the master jumpers. Here's the adapter and specs: Serial ATA 1.0/2.0 - compatible ATA / ATAPI PIO mode 0-4 ATA / ATAPI Ultra DMA transfer speed 16.7, 25, 33, 48, 66, 100, 133, 150, 300 Mb/s. ATA / ATAPI LBA48 2-byte address sell Supports Serial ATA Hot-Plug Windows 98/SE/ME/2000/XP/Vista/7, Ubuntu
  2. Why you shouldn't film aircraft taking off or landing head on. Lucky camera guy! This is something I don't usually care or get excited about (romantic crap) but a bloody nice way to propose! http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=9f0_1348856330

  4. Just installed a new GPU and PSU yesterday. You can't really see from the pic but there's GIGABYTE text on GPU. The wiring looks messy but in fact most of it is behind the motherboard and the visible wiring is actually not in the way of air flow but hugging the missing case wall. The DVD drive is not in use due to the location of my IDE hard drive = the IDE cable can't reach both the hard drive and DVD. I'm ordering IDE-SATA adapter to get it working. The system is going to be renewed gradually during next 6 months. Thanks alot Razor! Can't rep here... The Rolls Royce book is the only one I have access to check out if it's suitable for me. Can't really go to a book store for this kind of books and browse them one by one so it's kinda difficult to know what exactly I want. I think I'll start with Rolls Royce and move up to some of those. It's a bit hard to narrow it down more from what I've already said. I'm a maintenance guy who hopes to be engineer one day (and an aviation enthusiast most of all) so I want solid basics and deeper knowledge gradually to drive me towards that. :)
  7. According to Wiki, it does. Other Google results say the same. :) Or doesn't it? I remember reading that gyroscopic precession is actually not effecting helicopter main rotor but the similar effects are purely aerodynamical. I'm really interested to see how this comes along. AFM is definately the key word here and if you get sucked into this full time, don't hesitate to make it payware to achieve best quality. ;)

Could someone who is working with jet engines recommend a book about jet engines? I'm working with commercial turbofans and know the basics. I'm looking for something between basic and engineering level. Something that explains as many aspects as possible as well as possible without going into complex formulas. I have 1986 Rolls Royce The Jet Engine PDF book and it looks like close to something I want, maybe even more in-depth would be better. Would you suggest the latest version of this or something else? I'm afraid it might be too Rolls Royce heavy. A few candidates: http://www.amazon.com/Fundamentals-Propulsion-Applications-Cambridge-Aerospace/dp/0521154170/ref=sr_1_25?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1347138506&sr=1-25&keywords=jet+engine http://www.amazon.com/Systems-Commercial-Turbofan-Engines-Introduction/dp/3642092772/ref=sr_1_13?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1347138351&sr=1-13&keywords=jet+engine http://www.amazon.com/Jet-Propulsion-Aerodynamic-Thermodynamic-Performance/dp/0521541441/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1347138297&sr=1-2&keywords=jet+engine
  11. Good luck mate! I really look forward to this. Might take a long time from one man but it's amazing what one man can do!
  12. As I only watched jealously how my friend played this when I didn't have a computer back then, this is a must get! Thanks for heads up!
  13. I didn't have interest to read it completely but it seems like the deal. The purpose of the invention is to reach the optimal combination in afterburner chamber operation, amount of hydraulic (fluid?) losses and effectiveness in reduction of infrared emissions in the rear hemisphere of the engine. How can they know it's for PAK-FA?
  14. Ok, to me it just doesn't make sense to leave it like it is. It feels short sighted, unfair and waste of potential to leave it here just for the F-15. I'm sure if they would make paid upgrades (10-15 $) for each aircraft, they would definately make more money for sure. It would bring a major problem for newcomers though. First buy LOMAC, then FC3, then all the planes and get broke. It should have been done from the beginning unless a workaround and a completely renewed marketing solution would be introduced. In Finland people would call this approach "climbing up a tree ass first".
  15. One of them was already reworked and it took one year, the F-15 (that's what it takes for the 3D cockpit anyway). AFM is not a must so the SFM would suffice for the new Basic addons. They would get more money for longer time period so what's not worth it? They were already at it with FC3 and will propably get enough revenue to make it worthwile. Why not continue?
  16. Yeah I meant to separate from the FC completely. If it's practically one plane at a time done from scratch (3D models, cockpits, upgraded avionics) and the radar code and AFM is already integrated into DCS and not Lock On. The package would no longer be Lock On Flaming Cliffs but DCS: F-15 Basic addon module or something like that and full DCS version could be DCS: F-15C Advanced. They could do it with Su-25T, why not the rest? How does it differ to cut it from the FC package? It would be win win for everybody! ED would get more revenue over wider time scale and happier customers, more customers would be happy and would get more bang for their money for longer period of time. I can totally understand the beef of Russian aircraft pilots. I'm not one of them but not being exclusively Eagle pilot, I don't see value here.
  17. If I could choose, the most ideal way of doing FC3 in my opinion would be the RoF approach. - Buy each plane for say 15 $ when they get finished one by one. - Each plane would get F-15 treatment = cockpit, 3D model etc. - Each plane would get the necessary realistic features people have requested for (I think Case listed many features that Russian jets lack, same would go for all of course). - Similar types would be released after another, for example now that we have F-15, next would be Su-27. Then maybe Su-25 and A-10 to match on the other side or fighters again. That would lead to people getting more bang for the buck and better targeting of the specific type pilots. People who fly everything would propably still buy every plane because it would not feel bad at all to spread cost for high quality aircraft over wider time period. I also think ED would get much more revenue and over wider time scale because the cost for the whole package would be much more than the current FC3 and people (I would believe) would complain less because they all get treated the same. With the extra and more steady income they could incorporate the missile AFM and other improvements into the base engine (World) with patches. It's also more motivating to buy several high quality planes over a wider time period for the sake of quality than only one improved plane, like now, but still pay full price of a larger module... I and many others are tired of the same package that improves only little over the years. I see nothing new or any real value here. At the same time Beczl creates a whole new DCS module with AFM, comparable quality modeling, tons of 3D models, tons of new weapons & more only for 20 $!!! 40 $ for FC2 with fake boobs vs 20 $ for a top quality aircraft and a complete DCS module? Also with a unique DVD and still 10 $ under FC3! Guess which gets my money. :) I guess there might be some legal issues with the repackaging of the FC2 (I don't know, why call it Flaming Cliffs anymore in above scenario?) but this is how it would go in my perfect world. :)
  18. Yawn jets... ;) and now for something completely different.
  19. Ok thanks. Haven't seen mention of that anywhere but knew about the rest. The sim already assumes all airframes are the same configuration and so would be the new DCS/FC3 version with all the goodies that have been tried. The glass cockpit might be too much though but I wouldn't mind. :P
  20. I voted for number 3 however I would propably even buy a (quality & believable) FC3 version of Ka-50N/Sh with FLIR, MWS, DIRCM, (RWR realistic?).

  22. Good to hear about the improvements but I will not buy it. It might make sense for active online fighter pilots but there's nothing new for me. The Eagle pit looks amazing though. Active online Eagle pilots will get their moneys worth for sure.
  23. Thanks guys for very throrough explanations and your views. While I will definately buy a quality one, I will not go for the one brand hype even though Corsair deserves it. There are several high quality brands from what I read and some newcomers that only lose in long time fame. Important is to also read reviews from known reviewers who take the components through hard tests. People have mentioned JonnyGuru several times. So I might have found a winner in terms of price, reviews, efficiency and modularity. This thing seems to rock in it's price for features and efficiency! Super Flower Golden Green 800W Manufacturer specs Review The build quality seems to be great not only on this review and for this model but I cross referenced several reviews of different products and they all pass with flying colors. The only thing I lose here is the future bottom fan in my case due to size of the PSU. However I can mount two fans in the front and one on the side of the case. Think I will miss the one bottom fan? Propably not a big deal but I'm thinking out loud here so you can prove me otherwise. :) I'm going with this PSU and the previously mentioned HD 7870 in two weeks from now!
  24. Why wouldn't I get any of these instead? XFX 850W Core Edition, Bronze Nexus 850W RX-8500, 80 Plus Corsair 800W Gaming Series GS800, 80 Plus
