Note the whiskers - an interesting low-tech approach to stealth. "Target, twelve o'clock, high!" "Nah, that's just a tiger hovering, don't you see his whiskers?" "Ooh, right, may bad."

I love the pace and the shooting mechanics (much more then OFP1/ARMAs'; DISCLAIMER: just my personal preference, mkay?!) but the vehicles are indeed not very well done. They feel more like a bonus then like an important part of the game. The engine/editor is also quite limited (only capable of calculating 60 active units at the same time, very limited assets and such). I hope they are going to support this game properly with free patches (not just costly DLC).

I'd say like a fun mix between arcade and sim (reminds me very much of Gran Turismo, which I loved) I use the Real Mod v2b (see link below), which pushes it more into the sim-direction but I'd say it's still not ultra-realistic. I really like this game so far and I don't understand why there are so many bad user-reviews. http://www.virtualr.net/need-for-speed-shift-real-mod-2-0-released/#comments

Happy Birthday! (You don't know me but I know your videos!)

Thanks for the link to v1.2, didn't know about that - I'll give it a try tonight. Edit: Just tested the mod a bit and it worked without any errors or crashes (apart from having to upgrade my Direct X to the August09-version before I could run the game with the mod). It works pretty good so far but there's quite a drawback: it easily trippled the loading times (before/after races, menues, etc) on my machine and there's some perceptable latency between moving my head and the in-game movement - not too much though. I hope there will be an official patch that integrates TrackIR and different FOVs in a more optimized way sometime. I think I won't use this unofficial workaround very often - I am just too impatient for it.
-
There's a mod that adds unofficial TrackIR-support but I heared it's causing problems like CTDs or the game won't start. Haven't tried it yet, has anyone else here made experiences with it? Here is the mod, btw: http://sommergemuese.klee.in/2009/10/need-for-speed-shift-trackir-support-und-realtime-camera-control/

Better return it as long as you have the chance to. -

Tempting but I am more of a lone wolf-player and prefer to keep it at SP for the time being.
-
It's a bit strange because I don't get motion sickness from Dragon Rising (so far) but have had it with several other games already. I also don't get this everytime I play them, just occasionaly. Experienced it in Wolfenstein 3D the fist time and had it repeatedly in Morrowind.

Yeah, that's incredibly cool stuff. First time I saw this kind of stuff was here: http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2008/10/video-wingsuit/ This is actually one of the coolest things I have ever seen and it must feel like a dream come true... Certainly requires tons of training and skills but it sure looks like it's worth it!

I went out and bought it today. Played one of the SP-missions (which took me almost 1:30h) and hell yeah, it's the tactic shooter (not sim!) I was hoping for! It's like Delta Force 2 mixed with Ghost Recon plus a capable modern engine. If you think that sounds like fun and if you can get over the misleading name, I can already recommend it.

Thanks for answering. The earlier ones I hope because everything they released after DF3 (Land Warrior) or Joint Operations was garbage, IMO.
-
One reviewer (@rockpapershotgun.com) said it feels like a proper successor to Delta Force 2. That would be awesome in my book but can you confirm it?

Hm, der Patch ist da, sehr schön! Gleich mal testen...

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's astounding how many sci-fi ideas become reality. It's no secret that institutions like the DARPA actually watch for good ideas in media and sometimes they actively work with authors or even fund writers competitions.

It's black & white but the quality is fine. Printing it yourself probably won't save you much money. Make sure to print it double-sided because it's pretty big and heavy.

Mine came from England (Duxford Airfield).

I'd love to see a multirole or air-superiority fighter after the the A-10C.

Certainly looks like there's a pattern of coming in too low.

RIP They say one of the dead pilots was the vice commander in chief of the Belarusian air force.

Nee, nee... vorher testen is schon besser! Nicht dass mir am Ende noch der Rechner implodiert.
