Public inquiry. What is your PC video card?

Was just dropping in to report the same issue but found this thread. Glad to know its been noted though :).

Take-offs are too rough and feel like taking off in a gravel pit
Tetra replied to stray cat's topic in Flight Dynamics
Ok had a quick look at both, not sure if the track playback just isn't reflecting it but on both tracks I see no attempt to flare the aircraft at all. The first track your approach speed is pretty much right and the 2nd you are a touch too fast, although you could still land at that speed had there been a flare. You get over the threshold of the runway and the vertical velocity would have been ok, but you just continued to fly the plane into the runway which leads to the wheels thumping into the ground and bouncing (or breaking the gear in the first track). As soon as you cross the threshold of the runway bring the Mig level so you are no longer losing altitude and you are flying directly down t he runawy. Once you are level begin to flare slowly and at the same time bleed off some of the engine power (you don't need to lose too much power at all). Once you do that hold it until the rear wheels gently touch the runway, once they are on the runway slowly let the nose down, with the current dynamic it will be mostly impossible to maintain a nose up attitude anyway. Once rear and front wheels are on the runway then cut power and deploy the chute. -

While I agree the suspension does need some tweaking If you are bouncing on touchdown or breaking the gear then your vertical velocity is definitely way too high. You need to keep engine power and speed way up to control the velocity. Once you clear the threshold of the runway try and keep level for a moment (you don't need much runway to stop) so you are flying level a few meters off the runway then very gently begin to flare to increase drag while controlling power to descend very gently on to the rear wheels. I found the Mig quite challenging to land compared to most other aircraft in DCS but running with the above seems to provide me with a nice controlled landing every time now. -
Ah that makes sense many thanks for the explanation  Not seen the video but from what you're describing I believe that would be the SPRD you can attach which gives you rocket assisted takeoff.

Can somebody explain the purpose of the emergency afterburner? The only line I can find in the manual regarding it (aside from it's switches and a section about inverted flight) is that it was added to improve thrust to weight ratio at lower speeds but I am unsure as to if/when I should be employing it? Thanks for any pointers.

Nice one John, loved your Sabre tutorials, will definitely be following these Mig ones too.

Nice flying :)

Have encountered this too but only once so far, sadly I cannot remember the events that led up to it but the both the cockpit button on the stick and my bind on my hotas became inoperable on that occasion.

Haha nicely done! What was your speed on finals considering the sonic-boom on the break lol. As for this topic, I am also in the same boat, for some reason landing the Mig "properly" for me personally is feeling like a real challenge at the moment. Much more practice required to get it smooth as butter.

I vote for Devrim (know he's wanting a copy) For anybody that voted for me thank you so much! but please change your votes to somebody else as I already have a copy :) Also +rep for cichlidfan for being so generous!

Awesome!! :D

If you're already using target it's going to be best to map them directly in targets script instead of trying to use half target half lua etc.
-
Ah great, glad it works there too, will also be specific to the Mig instead of showing up in other kneeboards, so is probably best there :). Thanks guys, glad everybody found it useful.
-
Ah ok damn, thanks for taking a look though guys. Hopefully LN might be able to add something in future perhaps.

No problem have attached it. Just unzip it and place the Kneeboard folder in C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS\ Or if you already have a kneeboard folder just extract the bitmaps into it (if you already have bitmaps from other custom kneeboard images then just rename the bitmaps to continue the name sequence, ie: 004.bmp, 005.bmp etc.) In game just R.CTRL + UP for kneeboard then R.CTRL+LEFT until you get to the first custom page. (there are 3 pages for the startup) Kneeboard.zip

I personally just clipped the pages out of the pdf manual and stuck them in: C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS\Kneeboard as bitmaps starting 001.bmp and so on.

Thanks man glad you find it useful  Just to add to the question by MTFDarkEagle about the Throttle Start/Stop Position Toggle for the warthog. Assigning it to the WH works, however when the WH throttle is in the idle detent it triggers the button constantly. Anybody know of a way to fix that ?

The alternate catagory isn't an issue, the problem is that the DCS forums likes to automatically insert empty spaces into words etc. Just double check the lines you are adding to the lua script and remove any spaces that shouldn't be there :).

Yeah there certainly seems to be considerably less jittering in the real aircraft on take-off. Am quite happy to accept it if the simulation is correct, but from all videos I have seen so far the real Mig seems to be much more stable. Would very much like to know if the way the sim behaves now is intended/correct or not?

Many thanks for the reports guys, will get this fixed and updated with the Mig as soon as I can. -
 Great news

Many thanks for doing this :) Was literally just thinking it would be great to have this for the flaps but the gear is also a nice bonus too!
