  1. also as britglider suggests.. increasing lift is great for angles fighting (sustained turning...solid g turning..etc) but takes away from accelerated vertical plane movements.... it's a balance thing i would think.

  4. GGTharos or Goya... I can't get a mission to setup for this... every time I try to jump into the cockpit, everything resets, so I can't see. if I try to turn on jamming for the 27, 33 and jump out and jump in the 15, jamming is not detected (yes.. I did try different ranges 20- 100nm differences). when I jump back in the the 33,27 everything is off. So I have no way to test this situation... any ideas?

  6. For example.. I was on your board last night... I was at 10-15K. TWS enabled.. 120 in BVR mode.....Music off. range was 40nm... scan height = 0 - 30K (if I remember right). from scan height 0-15k nothing..... once I went to approx 0-30k then I would get Jamming.... SO I'm figuring 15-30k is the approx target (up to 15k higher than I), but at what distance? (approx obviously) I figure some trig would work here... but I don't remember.. It's been years. Cone deg deflection would be required as GGTharos suggests... Pilotasso.. I couldn't disagree with you more..... you don't have to be exact.. just rough estimates would get you in the fight.
  7. This I will have to try as well. any math genius out there can give a range estimates for us 15 fliers? example senario: F15 at 25k Scanning at 0-5k 5-10K? Obviously the radar is looking downwards, but how far away is the 0-5k scanning range hitting the ground? 7-15nm out? The only thing I know about Geometry is square things don't go into round holes. I'm guessing we need to know the angle of radar cone downwards deflection to start.. Anyone from ED know (or the other stars of the show.. beta testers!)?

  9. Hi Goya.. not only do you keep knocking me out the sky... you tell me there is no hope? :) center of tews? I know what the center of tews is , but I don't know what you mean in this context.... If I'm at radar range (tws) of 20nm and I have a jam showing, and I switch radar range to 40nm and the jam signal doesn't change on the mfd... how can I get some indication as to how far then? (can't by your account) when I look at tews..there is indication of light spiking activity.... So I gotta guage detection of signal strength against eyeball power and MFD is useless? also a suggestion on last nights map..... the take off field I was always stuck with was 57km away... It would always take 10-15min to get to the fight...is there a way you can adjust for this in future maps? thx...

  11. GGTharos.... I vaguely remember SK simple guide to HOJ and ranges and I can't find it... Do you know where it is? ..ie..how far can I tell a target is that is jamming me so when I shoot off a 120 against a HOJ I'm not just wasting missles.. I seem to vaguely remember it has somehting to do with how many dots are showing.. (F15 'natch) thx...

  13. Guys.. I played online last night and got way confused on reading the radar mfd.. (I ended up shooting down my own team member twice!). For example, when in TWS mode, I can see two targets (my ECM OFF) (little aircraft carats with a 1 and a 2 over the symbol) Ok so I know what that means, but how can I identify whether it's friend or foe? A team member maybe flying a SU or MIG, so how can I tell it it's my team or not?
  14. Dammit... ED pres said a while ago that all aircraft will have AFM.. (I don't remember the site) - found it (http://world.altavista.com/babelfish/trurl_pagecontent?lp=ru_en&trurl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.ogl.ru%2fpc%2f7779%2fmain%2f#lib) but it doesn't work anymore. now it appears ED changed their mind. ED....I bought flaming cliffs and never thought it was a patch and was half-expecting the AFM for the other aircraft in the future... now it's not going to happen.... very sad news for us Eagle fans...

  17. Yes.. my sympathies go out to them as well.. Where in the heck does it say "Allah commands you to kill people who have nothing to do with anything whatsoever?" in the Koran? A "true warrior" they call themselves. I hate those pathetic cowards. If the west operated in the same manner, sand would be glass by now.. and we would say "Allah commanded us to do so" so then it must be right! pathetic. and my heart goes out to those who've been touched by this cowardly act. (can you tell I'm angry?)
  18. I've recently been reading Fighter Combat by Shaw and a few other books, manuals..etc on flight combat techniques... How would one practice this stuff? ie.. how would I setup a TE ...er sorry.. mission to practice a Vertical Sicissors? Flat Sicissors? Hi Yo-Yo.. Low Yo-Yo? etc... Energy Fight? Angles Fight?... BTW anyone who hasn't gotten it yet....get the damn book. It's quite an engrossing read. Can any of you older hands share some tips on this situation?
  19. Oh god. this crap again...? Yes F4 is cool and very immersive that LockON can't touch... Yes LockON is cool also in other ways. Both different. Both cool. I have complaints for both types....but y'know what? It's a phreakin game! Life? Get it? sheezh!

  21. Yeah.. The mistake appears to be using CPU power for everthing that is occuring on the map.. reguardeless if it's 200mi away or 5 miles away along with using DirectX8 instead of Directx9. I am no game programmer and wouldn't surmise that I can talk on a even base with the coders at ED.. but if I understand it right Dx9 is more efficient than 8, whereas fog, water, and haze would be rendered with better efficiency. (so why 8? besides install base) (this subject has been hashed thru in the past) It also appears that they can't change it (to far into it) but only tweak it. (I really do hope I'm wrong.. but the last 2 years falls right in line in what I'm saying) I think for them to succeed is to do something similar to what FO is doing, mixed with a solid DC and they will be around for quite sometime in the FlightSim world. Otherwise they will begin to blur into the background with all the others..
  22. But the gameplay itself will be better. I really do think it bites hard that they encrypted the terrain and skins files so we can't add tom hitiles..etc... (tho I do understand why, but I think it was a bit too much).
  23. I agree I too would purchase.. This no campaign stuff really blows... But I don't think ED will fix this current engine, with TOP of the line systems that are crawling to process what little is actually happening in the game. Now imagine a full dynamic campain... 100's of missions, ground troops, supply chains, sortie's etc etc.. It just isn't going to happen with this version of LockON. Maybe a future release.. but this one is gone as far as it can go. IMHO adding a helicopter or whatever to a beautiful, but limited engine is a major mistake for longevity of this simulation. NO DISRESPECT INTENDED TO ED!!
