Lock drops after latest patch and hotfix
CommanderRabb replied to captain_dalan's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
They did do some mild evasive maneuvers. Mostly dropping altitude rapidly. This was in SP. Caucasus map. 250 miles feet wet. Two armed Tomcats vs two armed JF-17's. Both closing and probably starting about 150 miles apart. Difficulty: High. And IIRC Jester does seem to continue to have a problem with losing STT locks. Been like that for months. It's pretty annoying. Even when flying straight and level at a target about 20 miles away. He'll just lose the lock sometimes. -
Lock drops after latest patch and hotfix
CommanderRabb replied to captain_dalan's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I can't be certain of anything, but tonight I did kill two ("superior") JF-17's flying at roughly the same altitude as myself (40,000 ft). Both missiles fired from about 50 miles in TWS mode found their targets. -

I believe there is a way to separate the contacts on the screen. But I just don't remember how. I think it has to be done from the backseat, as Jester may not be able to do it himself.

F14 Damage Model for Gyros 'Too Sensitive'
CommanderRabb replied to gary palmer's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I've even seen the INS glitch out briefly if stressed enough to disturb it, but not break it. I'd say they did a pretty good job of modelling it. -
Lets.:)

Congratulations on (essentially) finishing the AJS-37. Now to finish the F-14 and get on with your next project.
-
That can happen if they are at an altitude way out of the vertical range of your radar. You'll need to hunt around for them.

Is the addition of the Tornado to the RWR, supposed to be an allusion to something? :)
-
Agreed. Besides when the Tomcat debuted her systems were state of the art and even today she is still among the fastest fighter jets ever built. F-5 is more like a Delorean though. Lol.

Yeah. This time I got it right. Approached airfield from the left side of the base. Destroyed several TU-142's on the first pass while the SAM warning was going nuts due to the SA-6 launcher off in the distance. Took a hard right and accelerated away on burner, which allowed me to out run the SAM and it exploded harmlessly where I had been several seconds earlier. Wingman dropped his bombs and then reported a bandit somewhere. I made one more pass and a killed another plane before breaking off again, in preparation for another pass. Before I could come back, a MANPAD shot at the Wingman and then I decided I'd pushed my luck enough, called Winchester and headed for the mountains on burner. I instructed my Wingman to join up but he got shot down instead. Dropped my two remaining bombs in a valley somewhere, because Jester refused to drop them and headed for the carrier. Even well out over the ocean a MiG-25 was back there somewhere trying to lock me until he got killed by the CAP. Returned to carrier. Caught the one wire(lol). Mission Complete. :)

Fair enough.:)

I guess that means no more getting in scraps with heavily armed attack helicopters. Although it is very satisfying when you manage to shoot the tail rotor off them with your gun.:)
-
Don't get too far ahead of the Wingman either. He will go to full burner trying to catch up, without any concern for how much fuel he's wasting.

You should buy. It's well worth it and my opinion still the best module you can get.

Watch the Devildogs mission is INCREDIBLE
CommanderRabb replied to bennyboy9800's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I don't know why people see the need to come to these places and try to push other people around, because they were there in real life or some such. It really irks me and I've seen people get away with that in other places, but I'm glad someone here called that out for what it is. And please don't change the name of the mission. It's just fine. -
Heatblur Development Update - Thunder & Cat
CommanderRabb replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
I agree. It is my favorite as well. Although I don't find the systems to be too much of a problem. To me they are good enough to still be useful. -
Why Has The Main Menu Wallpaper Not Been Updated?
CommanderRabb replied to Wing's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Blasphemy! He does not worship at the altar of the JF-17! (sarc) And yes I do agree that the wallpaper should be replaced with something more artistic and am glad that it will be in the future. -
Thanks. Although keep it so he says Winchester. It sounds cool. :)

Mission 3. Got shot down the 1st time after getting hit by what I believe were a couple of MANPADS, both engines out, safely ejected. I did manage to hit a couple of the planes. Second time. I approached it differently and was able to take out several on the first pass. Got hit by something(probably AAA), with no serious damage. Wingman went in and did some more bombing and got hit. Then I went in and bombed several more going the opposite direction. I had one bomb left after, which I dumped in the country and then hauled it out of there on burner, until I reached the mountains. As for the wingman. I told him to rejoin, but he refused and crashed shortly after. Managed to get back to the ocean without any issue. Then back to the carrier. While watching all the large collection of 23's and 25's on the RWR. Then landed and caught the two wire with 4700lbs of fuel left. That was a pretty cool mission. Although somehow the game didn't consider it a success because in my haste I forgot to use the F10 RTB thing...
-
I'm sure they did. It is not fuel efficient in afterburner - which is to be expected. But I have found it to be pretty decent otherwise.:) Just gotta manage your fuel consumption by not flying faster than you need to. If you have 18,000 lbs of fuel and you are using 4000lbs of fuel an hour. That gives you about 4.5 hours flight time. Which I would not say is bad. Cut that down to 3000lbs and you've got 6 hours, although you'll be pretty much at the minimum thrust required to stay airborne.
-
Ah. The one thing I forgot to do. Mainly because when flying quick missions it's already set for you. So far so good. Other than the one time the wingman decided he was going to push me out of the way after a cold start. Lol.

New Pay Model / subscription discussion
CommanderRabb replied to MacEwan's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Maybe once the year 2371 rolls around... -
So far I like the campaign. The first mission was pretty wild. Got 7 kills and the AI killed the rest. Being able to turn on ACM mode and quickly launch several active Phoenix's in rapid succession (with each finding its mark) is very satisfying. Strangely there was no ammo in the gun though?
