I saw a piece on the news saying they were carrying some IFVs (or something similar) to Dubai and they were guessing that they broke free of their hold-down chains and shifted rearward, thus causing the CG shift

This is an excerpt I found on airforcemag.com Close Air Support, Refined and Evolved Compared with the ad hoc coordination of close air support that characterized the early phases of Operation Enduring Freedom, CAS as practiced in Afghanistan today is a refined process taking full advantage of years of hard experience and specialized technology developed with the mission in mind. Brig. Gen. Thomas H. Deale, commander of the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing here, said, "I’ve been an A-10 pilot my whole career," and "we have got our ability to integrate aerial operations and direct support to the ground force at the highest degree I’ve ever seen." He explained that USAF has "matured the theater air-to-ground system," to include joint terminal attack controllers—airmen embedded with ground troops who call in air strikes—as well as the air operations center and "the aircraft themselves." The hallmarks of this coordination lie with the transition of the A-10 to a digital platform, able to take full advantage of data sharing systems, and having the ROVER (Remotely Operated Video Enhanced Receiver) system in the hands of JTACs. "If you ask what is working better than it should," then the coordination of CAS falls in that category, Deale said. "Granted, we have had two wars and 10 years of development of that, but ... our ability to integrate direct fire and support of our ground forces is extremely good." Using Litening targeting pods to survey the scene, A-10s can share imagery digitally with JTACs using the ROVER set. The JTACs can then see everything the pilots see, said Lt. Col. Paul Zurkowski, a deployed A-10 squadron commander. The JTACs can even manipulate the A-10’s Litening pod, slewing it to look at the areas they want to see. Both the pilot and the JTAC can simultaneously see enemy positions or places the JTAC wants the fighter to attack. "They can vector our pods to where that specific individual or vehicle or house is. So the ROVER is a great capability," Zurkowski noted. Up to five hours of four-channel imagery can be recorded and mined for useful "stills" that can be sent back to the ground troops, he said. Also, "we can change the ‘lens’ that we look through on the pods," to go from superwide and big to small, to put a scene in context. At the tightest resolution, "now you can count the number of doors on the house," he said. "If you zoom in, you can find people who are located up to four miles away."

>> When multi-player meant carting your entire PC system across the country to connect up at a friends house ... Boy do I remember those days -- and carting along a Null-Modem cable to boot!!!

Oh, forgot to mention to everyone - Happy New Year!!!

Yeah - I loved it when ATC was implemented - makes it far more realistic - I'm a licensed pilot (have been since the mid 80's)

I agree that the A-10C is an easy plane to fly and learn TO/Landings; Hell I do it all the time just for fun. FSX is also good to learn IFR by using the various Navaids and such too. Much more realistic for someone to rent a Cessna/Piper vs an A-10C in "Preparation" Not arguing here - just making a basic point.

This is a great sim to learn about combat, weapons, and tactics. And it's very advanced - far the best out there at this time. However, for general aviation training before you start flying single engine aircraft, I recommend getting Flight Simuator X - you'll learn more from that sim to prepare you for that realm of flight. GL on getting your future wings!

That key has never worked for me either. I have the TM HOTAS and I use the Mic Switch instead

Good one! I ROFL'd when I read this...thx

Rave, When I was deployed to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia [Khobar Towers] (during the 1st Gulf War) - we had the Brits, French, and US fighters/bombers flying non-stop all day/night for several months. Was a very exciting time for sure. It was the SCUDs that really scared me the most during that timeframe. BTW: Combat Comm - wouldn't have been from the 2nd Combat Com Grp from Patrick AFB, FL by any chance?

Sure wish I knew the answer to that question. I have wanted that to happen too. But, as far as I know, there's no way to "re-spawn" him. Sure hope I'm wrong. Anyone?

which laptop should I get to use Warthog??
bradleyjs replied to clarky_two's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have a maxed-out Alienware M18x and A-10C (and Arma2) works just fine for me. The laptop was quite expensive but I use for other things other than sims. I have the RAID SSDs (512), HOTAS TM, etc... ps - Am not using my TrackIR/Pedals as the wife won't let me have that much hardware in the dining room area (my current man-cave)... LOL -
It does briefly when being repaired -- was testing that yesterday.

Love the diagrams guys -- very educational - thanks! Used to be an aircraft mechanic (USAF) back in the early 80's ...

Jet engines run better in cold environments?
bradleyjs replied to Megagoth1702's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Not related: You guys have thrown out more acronyms in just 1 page [of this thread] than I've seen in a long time .. and what's weird, is that I understand all of them... LOL - OMG -
Labels? Did I say that... naaahhhh... LOL ps. Just pointing out a option .. we have many options in life -- as my wife keeps telling me .. she's very wise [well, at least, most of the time]
-
Turning on Labels can help too.

Yep, the "Dash-1" is the "Owner's Manual" for any USAF aircraft .. very good reading .. too bad they don't have it for the Kindle :smartass:

bradleyjs replied to hannibal's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I've been saving patches/full release since ....0.9 version.. -
Yep, I set it to value of 1 and it now seems to be working just fine. Thanks guys!
-
Roger that - I'll give it try and see what happens... Thanks!:smartass:

Great question and good info! However, I change the Slew to any value and it really doesn't seem to do anything... I guess that I'll keep testing it ..

Cant get ground crew to respond after patching
bradleyjs replied to EventHorizon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
"Easy Radio" settings don't think it needs to be set to INT for that setting... And Yes, this is a very complex sim -- the best I've ever enjoyed in the 20+ years of simming... Gotta Love It!
