  1. I wonder how it will compare to an engine such as Outerra ...
  2. Definitely. Most of the resource files (textures, terrain, etc.) used by DCS-BS and DCS-WH are exactly the same. Since the same resource files would be used (in a modular system) this could speed up loading times after switching from one flyable to another since the OS could use its RAM cache, instead of loading directly from HDD/SSD.
  3. DCS will evolve into a modular platform. :)
  4. Even if two words have the same definition, they may have a different connotation, be used in different ways, situations. Both shortly and soon are relative ...
  5. Google maps :) While you're there, look up the other airports which are modeled in DCS. You'll find many of them are in a bad state, some pretty much gone/abandoned. You can also see traces of the bombings of Senaki and Kopitnari (named Kutaisi in DCS) in the 2008 Georgian war. Lastly, you'll see that two airports (at Poti and Marneuli) are not present in DCS.
  6. That's what I figured, but the real one looks a lot different.
  7. Here's an overview of Russian military activity on Georgian territory in the 2008 conflict (source = Georgian ministry of defense) http://www.mod.gov.ge/2008/bombing/bombing-E.html No mention of helicopters.
  8. Please enlighten me.
  9. If you check the airports on Google maps you'll find that many of them are in a bad state, and some are (pretty much) gone. Check out Senaki and Kopitnari (named Kutaisi in DCS), they were bombed in 2008 ... Moreover, the airports at Poti and Marneuli are missing altogether, which is a bit weird since the two airports very close to Kutaisi are included in DCS but appear to have been scrapped in real life ...
  10. I'll settle for outerra's terrain :)
  11. I'd like that Mi-8 now, thanks ;)
  12. It's not ED's work, check the video on this site: http://www.htpostrava.cz/ At 2:48 you can see a map which looks like the Georgian coast though ...
  13. Hopefully this problem will be solved when that kid reaches adulthood. Could be some time ...
  14. Sochi/Adler, presumably 2009 Sochi/Adler, presumably 2011 Sochi/Adler in 2014 (in time for the Winter Olympics)
  15. The cat is out of the bag already :D Looks like the video was cached by my web browser ...
  16. Sochi/Adler The airport seems to have changed significantly since the video ...
  17. Hard to tell image quality when watching a low-resolution washed out video ...
  18. Even so, don't be surprised/disappointed if it's released later ... The best laid plans ...
  19. ED did renew the f-18c.com domain recently ... ;)
  20. An increase in security doesn't necessarily reduce usability. I remember a poorly designed website where customers could order products. The total amount of the order was calculated in the browser (javascript) and sent back to the server using a hidden field (input type=hidden) ... This allowed people to order stuff for free by modifying the values in their browser. The server should not have trusted the client to "provide" the total amount, instead calculating the price itself using the product numbers and quantities as specified by the client. Another example is adding an additional product with a negative quantity, thereby reducing the total amount of the order ... Client input must be validated! I think this is what Moa meant.
  21. If only ED had more resources, just imagine ...
  22. It's only "one" because (s)he didn't share the hack ... Developers need to get it right all time, a hacker only needs to find one hole. Large companies like Microsoft have large resources yet people keep finding many security vulnerabilities in their products. You expect a small company like ED to be different?
  23. Countless multiplayer games have been ruined by hackers/cheaters ...
  24. Start logging incoming network traffic on the DCS server's port ...
  25. It shouldn't be too difficult to check for an incoming connection at the time when the malicious person joins.
