No, no major settings changes. I think the new computer is the cause - spent 4 hours in the Mustang last night - sound is different there as well. Must be something different about the computer and/or software driver difference causing it to sound different. <shrug />

Yes, the 109s are hard as well but I seem to fare better against them. FWIW, in the fights I am having I am downing D9s - there's just lots of them. But yes, I do gravitate to flying/fighting like a Spitfire at times and try to catch myself when I do.
-
Admittedly there are times when my speed is quite low, and my overall average speed is on the lower side - could very well be the problem. Lot's of high alpha, dunno if that is modeled into the cooling system as an oblique flow over the radiators. AI D9s are a PITA! Refresh my memory on what speed I should be trying to stay above from a cooling perspective?

I've been having a bugger of a time trying to manage the heat in the Mustang in combat. I've done some searching here in the forum but I'm not sure if the things mentioned are still applicable in the latest few builds (stable or OB). They don't seem to help ... much. I've tried various combinations of manually controlling the coolant and oil doors, leaving them automatic, etc. Context: extended dog fight... trying to use full throttle as little as possible, breaking the seal, trying to keep boost under the seal, under WEP when possible, as little as possible, 10-15-20 minutes in ... gauges are pegged ... engine seizure is bound to happen. Normally by that time I'm trying to extend away and being chased by D9s... success is ... yeah. Pointers? Btw, is there any difference between -25 and -30 with respect to heat management?

Will a M.2 Drive allow DCS to run smoother?
reece146 replied to ouseler's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Btw, screen size is irrelevant. Screen resolution is what can affect performance. If you are running 1440p then you are probably good but 4K on a GTX1080 (non-Ti) is non-optimal and I'd expect to see some slow frame rates at times. -

If there is a technical issue with your system it is likely the RAM. 2400MHz and likely high CL numbers is not doing you any favours - bit of mismatch to your CPU and motherboard. As zhukov032186 suggests, your 2TB SSD is more than fast enough. I'd try testing some other configuration things first though... Turn off your page file. Make sure there is no "crapware" like Logitech or keyboard widgets or any other background garbage running. This includes virus scanners. Make sure the Nvidia driver and Windows OS configuration is set to performance mode(s) and not power saving and/or quality. Make sure your add on peripherals (USB) are solid and not "winking out" and making the OS re-initialize them during game play. Sloppy/loose USB ports... There is a way to disable USB bus checking in the DCS autoexec.cfg. Turn down pre-load radius and tree visibility. I'm not going to give instructions on how to do these things - do some searching and it should be easy enough to find. My "pet theory" is that stutters is caused by system or video ram latency when DCS bangs against the limit of either one and the system does not have data ready to refill the queue. Try those things and see where it leads. -
Yeah, I was wondering about that.

I flew the Yak for the first time in 4-5 weeks last night and it seems like the sound files are updated? The engine sounds better, like it's had a factory balance and blue-print compared to the old bunch of bolts in a paint can shaker noises it had before. Not sure which version I prefer. :D New PC but same USB headset - could be audio chipset differences I guess. Old was RealtekALC892, new is ALC1220-VB. Anyone else notice anything different? Just my imagination?

Using UE means shipping a bunch of their cash flow to Unreal. I forget the amounts but as a small publisher ED would have zero leverage to negotiate for a decent rate. They have the skills to build an engine in house, and I expect a good proportion of their flight models/CFD relies on their engine (pre/post calcs depending on local conditions?). Porting to Vulkan will give them new longevity I guess. This is probably part of the refactoring they are supposedly doing now. Given the results of the last few months I have high hopes for where they are headed. Seems like lots of clean up is being done, reliability added. When I hop into DCS now I expect less issues than compared to six months ago. ED, keep it up!

Lag at low altitudes in forested areas.
reece146 replied to TacticalError's topic in Game Performance Bugs
This is the crux of it - the shadows for each object/tree are calculated individually I think. Turn down your preload radius and trees visibility as an experiment. If you do this you may be able to switch shadows back from flat. For a tactical flight you won't miss anything. For 'sight seeing" flights I turn those things up. HTH -
You are definitely CPU throttled. 2070S here, just upgraded 3770k at 4.7MHz to stock speed 10700k. Night and day difference. Now I'm GPU bottlenecked - depending on settings chosen.

6+ yr old Computer died need help replacing

Re: OEM license, just be aware OEM licenses are locked to the motherboard. If you have to replace the motherboard you will need to re-buy the license. For a new build it's probably not a big deal but worth mentioning. -

I got Pro (cheap license online) just so I can RDP into the box without manually installing VNC. Otherwise I dunno if it makes much difference. -
What is it that you are curious about? I'm currently using a LG 43" 4K TV and switch back and forth from 1440p to 4K regularly. It fills the peripheral vision but lots of neck movement for TIR.

Neato! I was annoyed at first you couldn't tune in cockpit (not knowing any better). But, given the range of the Yak it's really not a big deal given flight-mission planning - in DCS I mean.

Good cooler. Very similar to the Dark Rock Pro I put in mine. https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=8_129&item_id=137820 I agree that water-cooled seems like more trouble than it is worth. That said, I've been thinking about water cooling all my lab computers and pumping them into a single manifold and route the water through an old Ford Crown Victoria radiator I have lying around. For science! -

Amazon has been pissing me off lately. 2-3-4 week delivery times in spite of buying stuff on 2 day prime (been prime member for a very long time). I've been preferentially buying local and using Amazon less and less but the pandemic has really made Amazon even less appealing due to shipping times. Plus, when Bezos makes $13B in a single day its time for the rest of us to spread the wealth if he won't. Not a fan of Walmart; never occurred to me to buy computer hardware there. I used NewEgg because they had stock for what I wanted, had shipped stuff to me in the past in a reasonable time frame. Regarding prices, I'm not in the U.S. so there wasn't much in it at the time and I was willing to pay in order to get some form of reasonable delivery time. I bought the RAM at NE, everything else local. Ultimately, who you buy from is a personal issue. Some only care about getting the lowest price, some want to support local, some won't buy from specific vendors or manufacturers due to history, bad experience, whatever. -

Oh, make sure you get a Z490 motherboard. Don't let a sales drone talk you into an "on sale" deal to clear his stock. Non-Z490 motherboards are hobbled to 2666MHz in the BIOS with no workaround. -

That's sticky. Reality is if you stick to only QVL you are very limited in what is available and potentially missing out on a lot of available memory kits. The motherboard manufacturers can't test everything that can exist. This is where it can be useful to hire a local PC store/assembler (to take the initial risk). That said, equipment is supposed to adhere to engineering specifications. If something is supposed to work it should work. If it doesn't - return it. There are a number of memory kits out there recently reviewed on various channels on Youtube. Check it out. Stick to the big name stuff, stuff meant to be used for overclocking, XMP, etc. So, I don't think it's worth splitting a spleen over - but I'm prepared to take the risk. FWIW, this is the kit I bought: https://www.newegg.ca/g-skill-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232206?Item=N82E16820232206 Best part is ... No RGB! Lol -

If that's what you can get easily then sure. Seat of the pants you'll never notice the difference. -

FWIW, I ordered mine (CL14) on NewEgg. Arrived in 4-5 business days IIRC. Everything else I bought local - low CL RAM was the only thing I couldn't find locally or it would be a special order with unknown/dumb estimated delivery times -

Technical: * The timings on that particular RAM could be better. You want CL16 @ 3600 (16-16-16-3X) or CL14 @ 3200 (14-14-14-3X) If you want to save a few bucks: * For the NVME drives consider other brands. I am a fan of ADATA. It is considered "off-brand" and some people don't like that. I've been using their higher end and mainstream stuff in my home lab for the last 4-5 years without issue. That's like 6-7 NVME drives and SSDs. Certainly seems fine to me. There's other brands; I just started with ADATA because they had the best "bench racing" numbers at the time. I also have some HP NVMEs as well. Solid state stuff is much more reliable than old fashioned spindles - besides - you have backups, right? Do your own research regarding brands and stuff. If you are chasing the PCI 4 thing and trying to future proof - don't bother. Those are bench racing numbers to chase again - doesn't really matter in the real world. Today PCI 3 is more than enough bandwidth to saturate the video pipeline and for storage you'd never notice the difference while sitting in front of the computer. You could also make the same argument on SSD vs NVME (Worth going to NVME?) but since this is a new build and NVME is mature and more elegant than SSD I'd always say go NVME. In my home lab I went as far as to add PCI add in cards to my systems in open frames to avoid having extra SATA cables and crap in the rigs. (sounds exotic - it's not - just 8-10 year old HP SFF workstations ripped out of their cases and turned into Docker/Kuberbetes clusters - much more bang for the buck than Raspberry Pis even if more expensive!) * 2 drives? Why? If you are looking to have clean dual booting in to Linux/FreeBSD/MacOS/whatever on the other device then sure but if this is just going to be a Windows box... 1TB probably will be enough to start. Also, you can add a second NVME later if you really need it (motherboard supports 2?). By that time maybe you can get 2TB for 1 current 1TB prices or at least closer to SSD prices. If you aren't convinced consider going to a 2TB NVME. :) * You could consider only going to 32 GB initially (2 x 16GB). I don't think DCS will need more than 32GB for quite a while in spite of the new maps . Nothing is going to change with respect to 'DCS core' any time soon and if/when it does we will be a number of years in the future and looking at a new upgrade cycle and/or whatever new changes have arrived will likely be more optimized and use less RAM (DCS' footprint is kinda ridiculous - I mean that in the best possible way). HTH! -

Intel 10600K/10700K/10900K NVIDIA 2080Ti 16 - 32 GB 3200 CL14-14-14-3X / 3600 CL16-16-16-3X 2TB NVME (CPU channel connected) Tune to taste/budget. See above. Get pricing. -
Run both. I preferentially run Stable, create missions and such there, unless there is a module that is not available (e.g. Channel Map, Supercarrier).
-
All the above! I'm going to try to turn some attention to make the existing DC3/C47 mod work on OB (Channel) this evening. Seems to at least load in Stable. We need Ju-52 and Storch/Lysander. Catalina or other flying boats would be great while we are making wishes into the void. :) The assets pack needs more civilian land and sea vehicles also.
