  1. There's varying degrees of hidden I'd expect. The one I was talking about originally is truly hidden - as in you can't find it once below ~10k feet but it really looks like a strip from ~25k feet. If I get time I'll try to get some snappies of it.
  2. Ugh - crap - that explains that. I thought it was available for stable.
  3. I bought the map yesterday but I still don't have it available inside DCS for download. I tried forcing it with 'dcs_repair.exe install <CHANNEL>' and that didn't work. I don't have the right string... Tried CHANNEL, THECHANNEL, CHANNELMAP, Channel_Map, etc. etc. ad naseum. Does anyone know what the string is to force it to download? Should be in this file in the DCS root directory: autoupdate_log.txt Or am I missing something obvious to get this installed?
  4. For certain, I am operating the engine correctly I think. I am setting the engine to ~62% for fuel miser cruise and higher depending on what I'm doing - generally following the guides in the manual. Most of the time I am bush flying and need to improvise to climb out of the valleys, land on fields, plateaus, etc. but most of the time am trying to stretch the small fuel load as far as possible. For example, yesterday when climbing out of the valley to get over the mountains I realized that i had the engine humming at ~70% rpm and something like 80% throttle. As I climbed and was losing power I realized I was not going to make it out of the valley and I eventually ended up at 100% rpm and throttle. Ended up zig-zagging gently back and forth in the valley to increase my flight path length to make the space to climb to altitude. I will check out the video - always something new to discover, refine technique.
  5. It's too bad creating maps is closed. I'd love to take some of the techniques shown on Youtube to import Google or OSM data into Blender to create maps of my local area. Would be a blast to fly the Yak down some of these valleys.
  6. I think I figured out my problem... and it is probably working properly out of the box. Tonight I did some flying south of Nalchik and as I climbed over the mountains I was at about 5000m. The throttle was very ineffective beyond about 20% - which makes sense I guess given how thin the air is at that height - guessing that is what is being modelled. The other times I rarely got above 2000m so didn't really make the connection I guess... just was noticing an inconsistency that I didn't understand. At low altitudes the throttle gives feedback throughout the entire throttle throw - more or less. During the climb I forgot to open the oil and engine cooling flaps till I noticed it at 5000m. Both were pegged red when I noticed! Oil temp went down quickly once opened but engine temp remained pegged - must have broken the gauge. Ha!
  7. flightgear.org Fully open source.
  8. What's the status of nvlink/sli these days? I did some research and for DCS it seems 2D works with SLI - maybe? VR does not work. Is anyone actually using two GPUs? Interesting post: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3410823&postcount=65
  9. Thanks for clarifying.
  10. Such a tease! Yes, buying without hesitation. I want the 'Bolt also but after the free for all induced purchasing binge I have way too many airplanes that I don't know how to fly already!
  11. Very cool - I thought maybe you were sending people on a snipe hunt. :) I just spent a few hours touring in the F-18 looking for sites (three bags) and checked this one on the way back. Neat little air fields. Did you mean there is an additional field to the north east of the single strip closest to the town (another field besides the one to the top left of my HUD)?
  12. Here's the scenario: Front seat pilot (computer 1) Back seat pilot (computer 2) DSC server (QEMU VM on a server) All three computers are in the same household. I've got one PC and the VM setup, both using my DCS login account and it seems to work fine by re-using my account on the server. I think I read somewhere this is the approved licensing model. If I add the 'back seat computer' to my setup do I need to re-buy the modules required (CE2, Yak-52, L-39, helis)? Thanks.
  13. Well, '52 doesn't have an afterburner... ;) Is the real throttle linear? I don't know. The cabling/levers behind the quadrant could be non-linear. It seems like the first half of the throw of the throttle out of the box does little of the virtual movement so the mapped linear does not seem to translate to a linear reaction curve. Or maybe it's set that way intentionally to emulate the real thing or to make formation flying in game easier. I don't know hence the question. I don't have it in front of me at the moment but the more I fly this plane the more it feels like something is off with the throttle setup.
  14. Always interested to hear what is in the pipeline. :)
  15. I scanned the thread quickly but maybe I missed it - are you still working on adding catapults? Also, is this ship physically big enough to operate F-18s? My thought is that as a fictional scenario/mission this could be used to run RCN F-18s - maybe make a skin similar to the HMCS Bonaventure skin for the Stennis but call it the HMCS Warrior (re: old Colossus class). Very cool mod, btw.
  16. What are people using for throttle curves? Mine is set up as out of the box (linear) and I expect is not very realistic.
  17. The other thing I noticed - and I think I tested this before - is that now with the canopy open I can stick my head right out of the cockpit to look past the engine cowling. Fantastic! :)
  18. OB pushed to production -> the needle moves! Yay! Why am I more excited about this than Supercarrier? Ha!
  19. I would like to know as well - on the cusp of buying a new machine and if throwing more cores helps I need to know.
  20. That depends on mission creation - for a mission that starts in the west and progresses to Dieppe - can't be done on the Normandy map now. Likewise, can't be done on the Channel map obviously. I think for the Normandy map we have to accept that anything north and west of the L'Harve-Rouen-Evreux arc doesn't exist and build missions accordingly. Shame really - Dieppe is far enough away from the edge of the map that the end of detail is not that jarring (IIRC - been a few weeks since I was bombing around there in game).
  21. Dieppe is missing on the Normandy map. I've heard it will be represented on the Channel map.
  22. I've seen what looks like an air strip from altitude (~25k') but it disappears as you approach the ground. I figured is was just a texture issue.
  23. There's a couple hours I'll never get back.
  24. So on stable this doesn't work? The needle never moves from the vertical position. I think I'm tuning ok - get the telegraph tone and switch to compass but the needle never moves from the vertical.
  25. You just made my day - again!
