Dual factor authentication for free trials?
Beirut replied to Beirut's topic in Forum and Site Issues
I hear ya. I just hope you see the customer's point of view regarding hoops to jump through after already establishing ourselves as good clients. And for the umpteenth time, this is not a subject to be looked at in a vacuum. We can't legitimately discuss a new "problem" with the free trial system without also acknowledging that the free trials themselves have been a really great thing, especially the manner is which they were rolled out at the start of The Plague. No kidding. Five-Star! Round of applause! -
Dual factor authentication for free trials?

I would think it's mostly people who have bought few if any modules and mostly lurk on the forums. I can't imagine someone who is a serious DCS player getting into that sort of thing It would be nice to just show the DCS guys my $1000 in payments on Steam for DCS modules and that would suffice. But if some people are being ***** are abusing the system and ruining it for everyone, what can you do, eh? -
Dual factor authentication for free trials?

On one hand I don't like it and I'm pretty sure it kills the free trials for me. On the other hand the free trials themselves are very generous and I have enjoyed them a great deal while I was able to use them. -
Dual factor authentication for free trials?

Morning, My main install is Steam, but I have a second "main site" install just for free trials. Nothing shared between them, and they are on separate drives. I don't think there is anything I can do with Steam to affect the main site install. But I have about 25 modules on my Steam install. There must be a way for that to count so the DCS code can say "Oh yeah, that guy!" and leave my phone out of it. The free trials are great. Especially the way they came out during the Round 1 of The Plague so we could all fart around with new toys while stuck at home. I thought it was really fantastic. But at this point I'll skip it. My other option is to buy a plane on Steam, I get two-hours to try it, and if I don't like it I can return it. -
Dual factor authentication for free trials?

I understand, but this thing where everyone wants their stuff on your phone is getting old. I'm certainly appreciative of the free trials, I thought it was a fantastic! thing to do, but I'm not getting my cell phone involved. -

That's... unfortunate. Might be the end of free trials for me. Oh well. Thank you for answering. -

I haven't seen this request before and I've done lots of free trials. Just saw it an hour ago for the first time. As below: To participate in Free Trials please enable two-factor authentication in your profile To protect the security of your account, please set up Google Authenticator. Scan the QR code below with your Google Authenticator app, then enter your verification code. Download Google Authenticator mobile app Choose the preferred method to receive the verification code Scan QR code To scan the code, bring the camera of your mobile phone to the screen and wait until the application has scanned the code. null Enter code manually If you cannot scan the code, enter it manually. You will have to specify the website address, your login, the verification key, and select the key type. Type: Time based Enter confirmation code Once the code has been successfully scanned or entered manually, your mobile phone will show the code you will have to enter below. -
Not sure if this is the right place, but... Just tried the get the Spitfire for a free trial and now it says I need dual factor authentication on my account. Not really sure what the deal is but does this mean I have to install an app on my phone just for this and does DCS want my phone number?

I ran DCS on a baked potato years ago. It was fun. Getting an SSD was a yuuuuuge improvement. No one needs a fancy rig to run DCS. On the other hand everyone wants a fancy rig to run DCS. Expectations are the key. If someone is happy flying the FC planes over the Caucasus, then a potato might well suffice. That can be a highly enjoyable low-budget affair.

No, just different. Variety is the spice of flightsims.

Now of course we have to ask what your first love is.
-
We have the C-101 - the blonde, the L-39 - the brunette, and the MB-339 - the redhead. If asked which one you would like to have, the proper response, of course, is: "yes please".
-
Blonde or brunette? Yes please.
-
Very cool. Thanks. Love me some sandbox.
-
Kind of a bummer, my free trial for the L-39 and C-101 both come up in a month but the sale ends in two-weeks. I'd like to give them both a go once more before (maybe) dropping some cash. Maybe watch the Grim Reapers module reviews of both again.

You Canadians and your F-18s, what a bunch of... Oh, wait a second! But if you had to patrol the north, all that gas in the F-15E, not to mention the pleasure of conversation or a nap, might be nice. But I do like the F-18. Therio has a nice CadPat skin for it. He's making one for the F-15E too.
-
I really thought I would enjoy the C-101 more, but after the free trials and I found the L-39 to be more fun. Obviously personal preference.
-
I think it's a question of style. One is a lightweight fighter and the other is a "heavyweight" bomber. Granted they can both do multirole, but if you want to chase down and dogfight some Migs, I'm guessing you take the F-16. And if you want to carry a bunch of MK84s from here to way over there, I'd say you take the F-15E. I'll take the F-15E.

I'd like to have a trainer, just for the fun of flying, and I like the MB-339 devs, they seem to be good guys. But my cash isn't unlimited. It's been out for a while, maybe 25% off for a little encouragement to part with my hard earned dollars. The other trainers are on sale for about 40% of the cost of the 339. That makes the 339 a tough buy unless it's a plane you have a real buzz for.
-
Happy Birthday DCS! But still no sale on the MB-339. Disappointed am I.

In the Hornet, with Voice Attack helping, I can drop eight GBUs on a single pass in about one second. I use "Arc Light" as a voice command. I don't know if it's "cheating", but it's fun. And I'm sure as **** going to do it with the F-15E when the GBUs arrive.

Alas, my joy overwhelmeth your negative waves. For she is not just fat, but Reubenesque and prone to targeted detonations. All is right, and I forgive you.
