  1. I'd like a TrackIR, but I hate the idea of paying ~$300Cdn for it. And $450 for the Tobii is just insulting. That's over $500 tax included. You're getting into the price range of a VR headset. $300 to $450 strikes me as very rude. It's a webcam and some IR reflectors, more or less, and they're charging as if it's NASA tech. $40 for this Beam Tracker thing seems just about right.
  2. Yep. Excellent for Scenery Appreciation Day.
  3. Ya gotta love that with all the talk of Strike Eagles and Phantoms, the Yak-52 still has such a fan base.
  4. This looks promising. And affordable. Amazon Canada has the Tobii at $450 and TrackIR at almost $300. This is $40 for the program and just needs a webcam, which I might order tonight. Has anyone tried this yet?
  5. I can be as critical as the next guy, but the bottom line is that DCS is one of a kind and the best of all flightsims. There is nothing else giving us this level of tech and fidelity. So best to chew - grudgingly - on the delays and imperfections and count ourselves fortunate that we have access to Strike Eagles and Hornets in all their guided weapons and funky MFD glory. Not to mention the upcoming Phantom which may well be the most sophisticated flightsim plane ever. And I want the best of the best in flightsim goodness. And I very much want my CH-47 and am happy to pre-order ASAP. So I'll bitch and whine a bit, but I absolutely will not stop supporting the sim. Just my opinion.
  6. ...and 1000 grown men all sigh a collective "Awwwww!"
  7. All three are great but I'd skip the Strike Eagle for a first plane, unless of course you have a love affair with it. Even though the Strike Eagle is an excellent module, the Harrier and the Viper are just more fun. I think I've had more good old fashioned fun flying the Harrier than any other plane.
  8. Map + Plane + Mission Editor = Everything is just fine.
  9. I'm 99% sure I heard Nick Grey refer to it as a game in an interview. Or as my girlfriend years ago asked to me on the phone one night, "Are you flying your little airplanes?"
  10. I'm inclined to think every single person here likes specific forms of aviation. That said there are certainly many who like non-specific forms of aviation as well. I wonder if those who like non-specific forms of aviation consider that a specific form of aviation?
  11. Or pretend you're a guy sitting at home in his pajamas flying airplanes on his PC and having fun. Works for me.
  12. Love me some new maps. Just have to wait for Steam.
  13. Welcome to my world. Every flight through the wonderful mission editor. Afghanistan will be no different.
  14. It's already been asked, but is there any idea about the size of the map? Are we looking at 100GB+? My 1TB drive might not make it to 2025 at this rate.
  15. I never bought the JF-17. Therefore I don't fly the JF-17. And one thing I never ever do is complain that I can't fly the JF-17, because I've had the option to buy it and never did. So it's a non-issue. Fly what you buy. If you don't buy, then you can't fly. It's that simple.
  16. If the MP players can fly the plane, manage the systems, and deal with the communications, then I'm of the opinion they can figure out if they do or do not have the map that is required to fly on that there particular server. And if they don't have it, they they don't fly it. I see no problems at all.
  17. It brings precisely no problems whatsoever to MP. You do the exact same thing people in SP do: if you have it, fly it - If you don't have, don't fly it. Super simple. No problem at all.
  18. I'm willing to chew on the eccentricities of the sim if it means I get to have the newest and bestest high-tech flightsim toys.
  19. I thought the whole map HD was $48 but if you bought the three sections separately it was $23 per section, making it $69?
  20. Seems a tad Byzantine, but as a dedicated map slut, I'm in for the spin. Any idea how many terabytes this thing will be?
  21. Neither here nor there, but this has over 31 million views in less than a year. Cool!
  22. Count me in for a big hot smoking "yes". Love me some new maps. No problem with EA. Day one purchase for me.
  23. I prefer to make my own missions in the wonderful DCS Mission Editor.
  24. I'd be happy to have a "best guess" payware F-35 to fly. I think it would be a lot of fun.
