In my experience the only time its good to use rockets is if your fighting 1 of 3 things. Ships (not armed of course were talking cargo ships here), Soliders, and targets that can't fire back (fuel trucks, parked aircraft, radar units). Also it should be noted you should NEVER fly over a known target area that you know has armed hostiles. Small armes fire is one thing, trying to fly over a tank is another.

Well I feel the exact opposite. I find flying a Blackshark alot easier than flying a fixed wing aircraft. You have probably been playing flight sims a long time and are used to fixed wing mechanics. Im pretty new to flight sims so I did not have pre conceived expectations. As strange as it sounds I think your experience is "handicapping" you. Its not harder its just different. If any of you would like to learn navigation training in a relaxed enviroment West Coast Hops has some excellent teachers at http://www.westcoasthops.com/wch/. They are very talanted, understand aircraft systems and procedures, are great pilots, and can even teach you how to read aeronautical charts. In FSX you can have a Pilot / Copilot setup wich is useful for real time flight instruction. Tell them QuickSilver sent you. If your looking for a DCS / LO squad check out War Hawks. http://war-hawks.net/ -
Succellus I'm not riddled just stating my opinion. This is a friendly debate and nothing more. I once read on a SimHQ forum that servers are where we go to do real time combat and forums are where we go to do turn based strategy. However I don't understand your logic about making statements about multiplayer when you stated that you never play PVP. If you don't play in a mixed aircraft combat enviroment I don't understand why you would communicate an opinion about it.
-
Well FC have to go? Yes. FC + BS or WT won t make much diference anyway. High jockey tend to fly higher and rarely come down as they know usually mud movers, got escort. Succellus I don't know what server your playing on but this has not been my experience at all. Fast movers attack any target of opportunity. Also Boberro is right. They can call it a bonus all they want but the truth is they needed the integration to help the DCS series get its name out and to get those servers populated. I don't think FC should be compatible forever. But DCS definately needs a larger library of aircraft first.

TKMR that is a good suggestion +1 -
Well there is this to think about also. If they don't make FC2 and DCS A-10C compatable thier going to divide thier player base up, at least for a while. Your going to have half that play DCS A10-C / DCS BS and half that play FC2 / DCS BS. I don't see what damage it would do (besides some time and I can wait) to keep DCS tied to FC until they at least get one fighter. By the way that avatar cracks me up. Those little stick figures banging on the paper are so funny.
-
Why? Because aircraft are designed for specific functions. The two aircraft offered do not cover all aspects of air combat. By removing fast movers from the sim they could remove an important part of modern air combat and limit future combat scenarios. If you feel that way then I guess we don't need the A10 either we can all just play Blackshark for a couple more years. You know because its so highly detailed. We just need one aircraft right? Plus there is the issue of customers who are only interested in fast mover combat that may be lost because they were left out in the cold. You have not changed my opinion one bit. FC2 should stay.... for now.
-
FC 2 needs to stay until they get at least one fast mover. Honestly I feel like they need about 6 DCS titles to get rid of FC 2. I don't want to go from a full, complimentry library to two aircraft.

CAT_101st you should never tell someone to read the manual. Chances are they are new to sims and very frustrated. Telling them to go read the manual just adds to the frustration. They could possibly quit and not play again (I've seen it happen). Not only that but DCS sims are so complicated I think even people who do play sims get overloaded trying to do too much at once. After all on a complexity scale we have not seen anything like DCS before. Let's grow our hobby , not run people off because they are frustrated and think we think were too good to help them out. -

QuickCam you can download it from GoG.com (Good Old Games), D2D (Direct 2 Drive) or Steam (ummmm Steam) for $9.99. Also Spades_Neil I can show you no less than 3 (4 if you want to count vertical) things (besides autohover thats a given) to help you get into a steady hover. I can teach you to use instrumentation and your HUD to achieve this. Visit us at: http://war-hawks.net/ Make a post, introduce yourself, let us know what you need and how we can help you. -

Spades Neil I would be happy to help you. PM me and we can set up a time. -
We (The War Hawks) are happy to help anybody that feels they can benefit from asking for help. War Hawk or not. I have personally helped 3 people I did not know that could not keep the chopper airborne (rotor collision, engine torque, transmission, mostly due to rough handling and fighting the stick) due to trim problems. After 2 hours they could take off, fly straight, and execute simple turns with some clarity and purpose. Did I turn them into elite pilots? Of course not, but they were better off and less frustrated afterward. Some people just need a foundation to build off of. I never claimed to be an Elite pilot. I learn new things all the time from a variety of sources. What I am claiming is I don't require a pre qualifying level of competence before I feel like its worth my time to offer any assistance and I don't feel like any assistance or advice I offer is worthless. I have been exposed to aviation for years (I work for the largest (commercial) aircraft maintenance base in the world, get to see F16's take off everyday, have seen the stealth bomber do touch and goes (we are super close to the runway), have seen AWACS do fly bys, have gotten to go into a Russian Antonov An-124, and I will be one of the early people to see the 787)and flown a variety of flight sims, but I have never appreciated aviation until DCS. So it's very important to me that people have a good time playing it instead of feeling like it's an exercise in frustration (like say from breaking the chopper due to fighting your trim). I want to serve the hobby not just my squad. If you just want to learn and have fun and help others give us a try. WH_QuickSilver http://war-hawks.net/

Unused g940 Rotaries, any ideas
ZQuickSilverZ replied to FifthColumnist's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Maybee you could use it to tune the radio, the Wingman and ID dials, or maybee use them for the rotaries on your Abris. Just a few ideas though I don't know if they would actually work for those applications or not. Hope that helps. -
I have had about the same experience as Tangolima600. I use a Microsoft Sidewinder ForcFeedback 2. Its an old stick to be sure but I have had it since 2001 and have not had a bit of problem out of it.

You guys know about the line in the hud that helps you enter hover right?? Also hit RCTRL ENTER for a very useful control HUD (you would be suprised how many people fight the stick because there yaw is trimmed out of center). When your engaging a target don't try to "stick it" just use the turn to target mode you can litterly steer the helo with it (this is one of those examples I mentioned in another post about things that can overide the helo wanting to follow the diamond). If you are engaging anti air consider not using the autohover mode. It can retard slideslip and cuase you to get hit my a missle you could have otherwise avoided. We are putting togethor a comprehensive training program, we have online interactive classrooms, and most importantly were looking for members. Please vist our website at http://war-hawks.net/ Tell them QuickSilver sent you (if you please).

I am evaluating VR Commander. When I try to shrink my gate (using the [ key) it acts like I am pressing it over and over. Instead of going from say max to one sixe down it goes from max to min size. How do I fix this? This seems to be the only command so far I am having trouble with. Editing the millisecond time between presses does not seem to help.

Honestly a1adin I have only really ever flown online I don't even know how to do that.
-
Programmatically? George Bush is that you??
-
Thank you Nose Nuggets for the compliment. I am very glad the track helped you. Pingo is very talanted. He and I fly so differently that it might be worth looking his track over also. One thing to remember about trimming that I find helps most people is this, the helo ALMOST always wants to follow that diamond in the HUD (save a few exceptions). So if you are having trouble and having to fight the chopper look and see where that diamond is (it represents where your trim is set).

What are you keeping under your desk that you dont have room? Hmmmmmmmmm?

Thank you fearlessfrog. Im pretty dissapointed to hear about it being a resource hog. Please note that I think TrackIR makes an amazing product. My main complaint is the wire on the TrackClip Pro. You would think just a AAA battery would last a long time in something like that with little weight. You guys think that Natural Point will release a wireless clip? If I had that I wouldnt feel a need to look at other products.
-
Do you love TrackIR but hate wearing headgear. I have a suggestion to a solution but not the know how to make it work. http://www.seeingmachines.com/product/faceapi/ This is the main program (I Guess.....). This is the program thats supposed to make it work with BlackShark but, noone I know can get it to work properly. http://sourceforge.net/projects/facetracknoir/files/ Can one of you computer hotshots get this thing working and post a how to? I think its time we got rid of the headgear don't you. This thing can track 90 degrees so your head could be sideways and still be tracked. Think of it as a challange to show your computer skills.

Track IR settings/profile help!!
ZQuickSilverZ replied to Nose Nuggets's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
You know if you have the TrackIR 4 software you can rotate the camera and mount it on the side of your monitor. Unlike the 5 software 4 lets you control your camera orientation. -
Maulkin did you find it difficult to trim after you gave up forcefeedback ( I also use a MS SIdewinder FFB 2)? Also if your looking for a low cost headtracker you could try Cachya. Cachya is alot less technical than FreeTrack.
