SUBS17 although I have not played ARMA I have encountered a similar system (I believe) to what your suggesting. That system is the one that RFactor uses. I don't play RFactor anymore because I got tired of downloading MODS for every single server I wanted to race on. I spent more time downloading than racing. If we allowed open modding you would be downloading all the time just to join a map. Does that sound appealing to anyone? It certainly does NOT sound appealing to me. ED I implore you don't ever open this Pandora's Box. Your work is art don't let anyone paint a mustache on it. Also I noted that you made a post on 5/19/2011 stating "Looks awesome, I'm still a noob at Arma2 so this is interesting. " So I have to ask is this ACE mod for ARMA or ARMAII?

Grimes is that you doing the Pilotwings review?

This is the way I see it. Flaming Cliffs 2 needs to remain online compatable until DCS has more airframes. After that they should let it go. The reason I said that is to say this. I think TacPac should have been an option. I believe that in time it will fill the void that Flaming Cliffs 2 will leave behind. A really good, simplified, aircraft combat game. I see alot of potential there. The combat of FC2 and the navigation, procedures, and operations made possible by FSX. Or I could be way off and it could be a total disappointment. If you are TRULY intrested in learning how to navigate an aircraft and use proper procedures I suggest you check out these guys. They have ALOT of fantastic ideas for military missions. Thier missions are multivehicle, and goal oriented with precise and clear objectives. http://www.westcoasthops.com/phpvms/

Approved Mods? Are you serious?

Your absolutely right. You can choose what to install. BUT you CAN'T choose what OTHER people install. And yes, I most certainly do think that mods automatically equal that rather colorful list you posted. I don't play ARMA. I have not played any ARMA mods. But I have seen video trailers and video posted on Youtube and ARMA itself is very arcadey in my opinion as far as vehicle physics and capabilities. You did little to change my stance on how I feel about open modding. If your trying to change my mind you better come with something alot heavier than ARMA.

Frostiken I hope they NEVER, NEVER, open it up to modding. To me thats a terrible, terrible idea. The reason DCS titles are so appealing in my opinion is because they are as close to realistic as possible with a home computer. You let people start modding it and I PROMISE you, that all goes out the window. Just my opinion.

Oh Isegrim, trust me, I know its useless in this sim. Thats why I said "Besides what function would a spy plane serve anyway?". But we all have an aircraft that catches our eye. SR71 just happens to be mine. I think its the neatest looking aircraft they ever made. So even though I know no one flies this aircraft anymore, even though I know with satellites it doesn't serve a function anymore, even though I know its useless in our sim the desire is still there to fly it in DCS fidelity. By the way yes on B-52.

I don't have A-10C yet (I am waiting for the boxed set, call me old fashioned) so I am curious can you mark a spot on the map just using longitude and latitude coordinates? If you can then buddy lasing (lasing, lazing?) in my opinion just lost its usefulness. Why should I stay in one spot lasing when I can just say "Hey the target is here", drop some smoke, then bug out? To me just sitting in one place lasing is just inviting trouble. Though this does bring up a point that DCS needs to make smoke selectable from the arming menu. Now more than ever.

To me Ferrari is superior. Lamborghini's all have the same body style. I would love to see DCS Blackbird SR-71A but I know this will never happen. Besides what function would a spy plane serve anyway?

I don't think that people are reading this correctly. After the release of the 1.1.0.8 patch, work will START on the free Black Shark compatibility patch and 1.1.0.9 for A-10C. I don't think the patch coming out on May 20th is the compatability patch. Correct me if I am wrong (trust me, I WANT to be wrong). Or maybee I missed something. Does anybody even really know what this patch is for? Thanks in advance.

Unknown E.D. developer - Late for work again...

:megalol: My friend, you have a way with words. -
It's possible. The way I read it though is it allows for 3 functions per transistor instead of just one. Maybee I am wrong who knows.

They expect to have 3D processors out by 2012. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_tec_intel_faster_chips http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2011-05/intels-new-3-d-chips-could-enable-faster-more-efficient-computers "The fins give the transistor three "gates" to control the flow of electric current, instead of just one" Sounds promising. Sounds like three times the function from the same real estate. I am even more excited about this A fiber optic motherboard. If I remember correctly it is also due in 2012. I'll post the source later (its on my nook at work but it's coming) This is intresting to. http://www.pcworld.com/article/66464/optics_could_push_chips_beyond_10ghz.html and this http://www.popsci.com/scitech/article/2009-09/new-optical-cable-tranfers-10-gb-second Looks like in 5 years our computers may be mostly FIBER OPTIC. My question is what will we do for memory (both RAM and HD)?

Raptor which stick is not good, The Thrustmaster T-flight HOTAS or the Logitech G940? -
Those buttons and rotaries are REALLY WHITE..... JEESH. They didn't get dingy over the years.

Best rudder pedal brands?
ZQuickSilverZ replied to tbies's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have the Logitech pedals that came with the G940. They seem to work well and seem to be spaced ok. The only problem is the ridge around the pedals perimeter. That is correctable with foam rubber padding however. Though that is not a problem for me. I am very short so I work the throttle and stick and have the other little person (I call them my co-pilot) work the pedals. If my co-pilot is not around I have to resort to tying wood blocks to my shoes. That gets heavy after a while though. -

Noc every review I have read on that product (the T-Flight Hotas) says its high quality. Every person that I have come across that has owned it has been happy with it. I don't know real specific details about it (one thing is the stick and throttle separate into two units). For the price I say give it a try. -

Logitech chose to fail. Gadroc I will admit MSFFB2 had great FFB software. But thier profiler software sucks (as in compared to today, in thier defense people expected a lot less out of thier joysticks in those days). I find the Logitech profiler software to be really good actually. Honestly though I wish MS would make a MSFFB3 with a button layout like the TMWH or X65F. I would buy that sucker in a second. -

Are you talking about the force feedback software or about the profiler software? -
Yes. Here is a link http://www.opencockpits.com/catalog/knobs-c-50.html I am sure you will find these useful to. http://www.opencockpits.com/catalog/hardware-switches-pushbuttons-c-24_55.html http://www.opencockpits.com/catalog/hardware-leds-displays-c-24_56.html I could use some rep.

I have a question about the X65F. Im curious as to how it works when trimming. A non force feedback stick (to my understanding since I play with force feedback) starts a timer when you trim so you have time to recenter your stick. With force feedback the actual physical center of the stick changes so the trim has no timer. It centers instantly. So my question is how does the X65F work since it is always centered? I have put alot of thought into this and I THINK it probably uses the timer method because even though it doesnt move your still using force on it wich could cause the chopper to "kick", but I just don't know for sure. I would appreciate a comment from a couple of sources. One that has used force feedback before the X65F and one that used a regular stick (or more). Maybe even someone that has used all three types. That way I can get a user experience point of view and comparison.

Kon please read my caution above. I edited it after the initial post.

Kon check out these http://rogerdodger.net/diyflightsims/floor_unit_f321.html http://www.obutto.com/flightsim.html I would caution you against center mounting a stick. It seems these sticks are not designed to be used that way comfortably (your wrist will constantly be torqued to keep your hand square on the stick). Also it increases fatigue because you can't rest your arm. Over time playing with your wrist like that may even lead to serious permanent damage.
