  1. Ok Arm505 you win. I can't top that. ARM505 and GuntiNDDS you guys got xfire?
  2. Ahhhh GuntiNDDS ya beat me HA HA HA thats great. Ok I'll be the cook. Your turn. DCS Cooking Mama "Kill them again and again......... with your cooking"
  3. Bravo Sierra HA HA what a great sense of humor. Anyway this has BASICALLY (and I do mean BASIC) already been done. The Battlefield series (Sea, Air, and Land) does all that. The question is not if its possible. We KNOW its possible. The question is really about fidelity and map size (BF maps really are small in comparison). The ONLY way I can see this working is with a huge team, extremely patient gamers, and a subscription based service ($14.99 a month) to pay for R&D (they can release a vehicle every couple of months lets say with a huge team), and a large subscription base. Let's be honest here. It isnt about if its technically feasable, its about the time and money it would take to make something like this. Another problem is some things are just not as intresting as others. I mean would you rather fly a jet or...... would you rather operate a ship (and for a sim this would take several people I would think)? Would you rather operate a tank or...... a SAM. I would'nt think operating a submarine would be all that intresting for instance. Yeah it works in Silent Hunter but that game is specifically designed for Sub warfare not a general sim enviroment. If you dont have people fill all or most of those rolls then its not truely an all around sim is it? (Ill drive the fuel truck)
  4. To isoul. Ground-based U.S. Air Force Joint Terminal Air Controllers and Marine Corps Forward Air Controllers typically employ a lightweight device, such as the AN/PED-1 Lightweight Laser Designator Rangefinder (LLDR), permitting them to designate targets for Close Air Support aircraft flying overhead and in close proximity to friendly forces.. Northrop Grumman's LLDR, using an eye-safe laser wavelength, recognizes targets, finds the range to a target, and fixes target locations for laser-guided, GPS-guided, and conventional munitions. This lightweight, interoperable system uniquely provides range finding and targeting information to other digital battlefield systems. Ok maybee your right. But the comment on the video says this. TheOrdie — October 26, 2007 — NVG view of rockets launched from helo's guided by a laser... Which might lead one to beleive that they were indeed laser guided.
  5. isoul those rockets are laser guided man, though the laser is obviously being used by a foot soldier. Hardly the same as fireing unguided rockets. You can even see the laser in the clip. I don't disagree with anything you typed but I don't understand the point your trying to make posting that clip. Not to mention its a night time attack so the helo, even though the laser was being used by a footsoldier, probably had some kind of electronic targeting system and not just a floating piper.
  6. Can someone tell me what TBS (The Battle Simulator) is?? Is it a new product? Is it what the DCS series is going to morph into over time? Is it a mod? Can someone PLEASE clear this up?
  7. Your telling me you dont run out of vickers in 2 hours......... Man thats a long haul mission for sure. I dont see the advantage of taking external fuel tanks because your going to have to rearm before you run out of fuel in most cases.
  8. Yeah maybee per system but I doubt it overall. Maybee your right my A2A XP is limited. I would think maybee you gain some automation but now you have like 7 more things to worry about that were taken care of for you before. Also I think that people that try to handle the planes like they did in FC 2.0 are going to be in for a rude awakening.
  9. You know the HUD has a night mode correct? Also yeah I have not flown at night for a long time but I do remember it looking more like the youtube link you posted. Perhaps it has to do with ambient light near where you landed. I mean the other pic is at altitude right?
  10. Blondes Shmondes give me a Redhead any day of the week (Unless its Jerri Ryan or Christina Aguilera). Also I think that since FC 2.0 is pretty simplified, a DCS Jet is going to require a lot more "Hands On" approach and it might not be so easy to smoke a chopper when you have a much larger (due to the fidelity) workload. I mean lets face it alot of systems on FC 2.0 are basically automated for you.
  11. If your into streaming games check this out freind. This service lets you play games your not supposed to be able to play. As in normally your computer could'nt handle it. It cost $14.95 a month. This does not include purchase or rental fees. You can thank me by adding to my rep thank you. http://www.onlive.com/
  12. shamandgg can you post a link to those X-Plane forums. Thank you.
  13. Wanna play EECH online sometime?? BlackShark too. I play on the Warhawks and 104th servers.
  14. Rockets are great for ships. I was playing a 104th mission where you have to take out some cargo ships. I pelted those suckers with rockets till they sank. Not so good if the ship shoots back though..................................
  15. Whoa!!! d.burnette EECH (Enemy Engaged Commanche Vs. Hokum the 52 not the 50) is a totally different kind of game. Comparing DCS BS and EECH (by the way what is the extra A for) is like comparing Gran Turismo to Need for Speed. There both great race games but there totally different. I like, own, and play both games. While I play DCS BS most of the time I would never quit EECH because honestly it offers some things DCS BS does'nt and vice versa. I mean if DCS BS conforms more to your taste thats great, but don't make it sound like it makes EECH obsolete.
  16. I have put more thought into this and this is the conclusion I have come up with. I don't favor haptic gloves. They would be expensive and sweat would be a real problem. I think this idea is much better. How a shell with space for side panels, front panel, overhead panel, and left and right rear panels. Perhaps the shell can have plastic panels that snap in to change the layout if need be. Like the aircraft may have a vertical and horizonal side panel for instance whereas another might just be vertical. This would be a neat customizable feature. The plastic panels would be blank with a connector on each panel. You could then print control areas on cardboard and put pressure plates on the back of the cardboard. Possibly touch pads for areas where the function would be needed. I dont think a 2 posiion switch needs a touchpad for direction why not just push it. It is the same effect and cheaper. Maybee use touchpads for knobs and multi position switches (like the nav lights on the shark). After you attach the plates and wire chaseways to the board you laminate it. You can have a controller card do all the functions to keep from having to put a circuit card on the control panel. This would have the effect of being customizable, cheap, and having specific cockpit layouts. Once you got the shell it would be alot cheaper cuase then you only need the panel inlays if you switch aircraft. That would keep you from having to wear a device on your body. Also with gloves you would need 2 anyway because if you don't your reaching over yourself to control the opposite panel. If someone was just REALLY dedicated to one aircraft they could always add screens for certain things (shkvall, abris, ) by cutting into the plastic shell and mounting them. Say the panel has abris controls already. It would be easy enouph to sever the wire paths to mount the touchscreen. After all were talking about super thin metal, cardboard, and laminate. They could design them with breakoff points to make mounting easier. Also another cool thing about the shell is you could install speakers to it for surround sound. Do you guys think this would be a workable solution to a poor mans cockpit? Tell me how you would improve it. Tell me problems that it might have.
  17. average pilot what brand and model are you using?
  18. Here is my veiw. 1. HMD's (Helmet Mounted Displays) The problem with these is that they cut you off from the real world. Try finding a keyboard command with one of these on. Also wieght is a consideration. You play a game for an extended period that wieght is going to start hurting your neck. I am sure over time it could do permenent damage. 2. Motion/IR Gloves Ok first of lets count out IR. I think we can all agree thats a stupid idea. I don't want to take my hands off my controls so I can point at the screen. I realize you have to do that for keyboard commands but it is alot less distance and less movement. As far as motion tracking gloves this could work. This is how you would do it. All cockpits basically consist of 4 panels. Left, Right, Forward, and overhead. Possibly left and right rear ones as well. You could get that generic shape made out of say a plastic shell. The controls would be printed on something, like say those static cling decorations they put on windows. Then you just put the printed panel in the appropriate place. Now comes the intresting part. You have a glove that tracks with accelerometers and communicates through RF like the wii motion controller. You use tracking software to create a 3d map corresponding to the panels. Once you have them all mapped for location and distance you can have 3 points to touch to make sure its calibrated the same way every time. This would allow you all the controls and a cockpit layout at a very cheap price. Problem with gloves is sweat and them interfering with using other controls.
  19. If your intrested we would like you to stop by warhawks and say hello. http://war-hawks.net/
  20. JLZ you can't afford the ticket to QuickSilver Airlines. But if you buy me some beer before the flight we'll talk....... Also you will have to ask Victoria out for me because you know...... she's freakin scary but good looking (I heard she once killed a passanger using just her sarcasm, she musta hit him right in the concussion).
  21. SFJackBauer you play FSX? Awsome. I play FSX too. Want to fly Pilot/Copilot sometime? I know of a great server. They offer routes, charts, and instruction if needed. Let me know. I also have X-Plane 9, IL2 Sturmovik 1946, and Enemy Engaged.

Im just curious to hear your answer.
  23. Oh you were very clear. Thats what making a post at 5AM in the morning does for you when you should have went to bed at midnight. It makes you look like an a$$clown. I have no reason for that comment other than I was too tired to follow your thread with any logic due to lack of sleep. I am 100% right about the A-10 maverick targeting system being totally screwed though. As a sidenote if any of you fly the Su25 or Su25t I would'nt mind some instruction. Maybee a fly along?
  24. Viper in regards to your pics where you highlighted the target in red boxes and asked the veiwer to "spot it now" those targets where on light colored backgrounds (the runway) creating high contrast and alot easier than normal combat conditions. Also using a still picture to spot targets is alot different than spoting them on a moving screen. All that aside I do agree with you that spotting targets visually is probably realistically modeled. However, the example you used was pretty flawed. I also have had problems with the seeker jumping around. I refuse to believe that the military would use a system that FIGHTS pilot input in a high stress, limited time, life and death situation. I understand that its supposed to be somewhat automated to assist the pilot. However, I would think the pilot giving input to the seeker would override its automated assist, that way you dont have 2 things fighting for control of the seeker. If they let the computer overide the pilot during a targeting phase when the pilot is putting in constant input, thats a pretty foolish mistake. Tell me if I am off base here.
  25. JimMack that link you provided shows everything but the price. How much is that helo set up? Scratch that I see now it has not even been released yet. I bet it will be super expensive though.
