12700K, 4070Ti and a G2 what resolution and Hz rate do you run?
AlpineGTA replied to The_Nephilim's topic in Virtual Reality
Yes, although I can tolerate 60Hz it does feel nicer running at 90, I just can't give up the extra resolution though myself. I think I'm doing pretty well though with an AMD 6900XT considering NVIDIA cards are generally considered better for VR. -

I've tried Quadviews with my G2 in the past and wasn't impressed. For me it seemed to make things worse with lots of frame time spikes and stuttering, but after reading your post I thought I'd give it another try. And again I wasn't impressed. I went from smooth to lots of stuttering and frame time spikes again. But then I realised I hadn't ticked the new Quad views box in the DCS VR settings. So I did that and tried again. I was amazed! I went from smooth, with the occasional small frame time spike, at 0.8 pixel density in DCS, to absolutely smooth and completely flat-line fame times at 1.0 pixel density. For reference, I was running my G2 with an AMD 6900XT at 60Hz. I like the eye candy of water on high and with that on I was using 0.8 pixel density to maintain a smooth 60fps. If I turn water low I can run at 1.0 pixel density. But with Quadviews I can have both 1.0 pixel density and water on high. I can even also have shadows on low, but maintaining a smooth 60fps with that varies a bit depending on module and map. (I don't use any Anti-Aliasing btw. MSAA really tanks fps even with Quadviews and I don't like upscaling - too blurry) Basically, for me, Quadviews works and allows a higher pixel density and some extra eye candy. Incidentally, I discovered whilst I was tweaking that turning on shadows, even on low, really improves the lighting, look and immersion in VR, especially with low sun settings. -
After my initial skepticism I took another look at it on their website and for the price the specs look very good: 120°FOV, automatic ipd adjustment, Dynamic Foveated Rendering, colour stereo passthrough cameras, built in 3d audio speakers, hand tracking, good comfort and adjustment and most importantly, display port connection. Now I think it sounds like it has the potential to be a very good headset. I couldn't find the launch date anywhere though?

In VR the rear door gunner is not first person. Instead it's like a third person chase cam view looking at the gunner from behind.

Yes, I'm still very much enjoying using my STECS and still using the detents for different aircraft. I replaced a TWCS with an Orion 2, but then I replaced the Orion 2 with the STECS. The Orion 2 is a very good throttle, sometimes it's nice to have the metal toggle switches for things, but on balance I prefer my STECS. I think it's more versatile if you fly lots of different aircraft. I've actually changed my setup since the earlier posts. I should upload a new picture.

New Look and Feel for the South Atlantic map
AlpineGTA replied to Raz_Specter's topic in South Atlantic
Yes, it's a great looking map. I often use this map just to fly around on and chill. -
Why can't anyone just make a simple display port headset in the vein of the G2, with no motors, no batteries etc. Surely it would be cheaper and easier to develop and make and therefore faster to get to market and cheaper to sell. I think such a headset would sell like hot cakes. Edit: Actually, I suppose the closest would be the Crystal Light.

CH47 Engineer Stations and walking to them (VR)
AlpineGTA replied to Devil 505's topic in DCS: CH-47F
I accidently discovered the 4th engineer head in hole position too. Very cool in VR. I couldn't work out how to close the hatch though. Is there somewhere you need to click? And are there any key binds for opening and closing the hatch? -
Cargo ramp up and down is also useful to have mapped.

I don't think it's implemented yet.

I was about to ask about the pyramids because I thought they'd been updated, but I was disappointed to see the main ones on the Giza plateau still appear to have the same smooth low res textures. Which two have been updated?

Decouple gunner from head movement
AlpineGTA replied to AlpineGTA's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
That's what I was looking for. Thank you. -
Is there a key bind for decoupling the gunner position from your head movement in VR so you can control the gun with your HOTAS instead, such as you can in the Mi-8?
-
Has there been any mention that it's coming in early access? I've found it weird too that you can't open the windows or doors like in other aircraft.

I've seen mention that the PSVR2 was on sale recently in the US for $350. It seems a bit of a PCVR bargain for that price. I'll have to keep a look out if it goes on sale again.

Thank you for a great mission. Have you included Petra yet? N30°19.121 E035°24.992 (I think! I got those co-ordinates from the Chinook MFD, not from the DCS map). null

I've seen from watching a couple youtube reviewers that if your GPU has a USB-C VirtualLink port you don't need to buy the Sony adapter and I think I have one on my AMD 6900XT. I'm now tempted to go out and buy a PSVR2 to replace my Reverb G2.

How to have SAR helicopter hover alongside Supercarrier

That did the job. Thank you!
