Yes, it's not just a VR thing. I've noticed the texture on the top left dash shimmering on youtube videos too.

Hi, I fly a lot of different modules and wanted a throttle that was more generic with lots of buttons that can be configured for lots of different aircraft. The WinWing is more of a replica throttle, although of course you can still use it on any aircraft, which I did and it's still an excellent throttle. I'd also been waiting a long time for the STECS to come out, I like the quality of VKB products. I only bought the WW because my trusty TM T16000M throttle went faulty, so I upgraded to the WW, but then the STECS happened to be released just a few months later, so I bought that too. I also like how configurable it is, I like how you can swap out the buttons and how it can be combined with other VKB extension modules. And yes, the detent plates were also part of the attraction. They work very well. I can't compare the WW joystick to VKB, as I only have is the entry level Gladiator K VKB stick, that has a plastic gimble. So although the Gladiator K is a very good stick, I don't think it can be fairly compared to the WW Orion stick with it's metal gimbal. I do like the WW Orion stick though, it feels very good with it's metal grip and adjustable damping. Although, it does have a definite sort of detent that I can feel in pitch forward and back when I cross the centre position, no matter which cams I use, but not side to side. I would like to eventually get a VKB Modern Combat Ultimate stick to compare.

Looking at upgrading from a G2...the Crystal vs Aero debate
AlpineGTA replied to JG27_Arklight's topic in Virtual Reality
With dynamic foveated rendering, does it take less GPU power to run an Aero or a Crystal than it does a G2? And does anyone actually run a G2 at 100% resolution and 90fps without any motion reprojection? If not and it does take more power to run an Aero or Crystal, then how is it possible to upgrade to these headsets and use them at their full potential? I don't like using motion reprojection or upscaling, so I run my G2 at 60Hz and the highest resolution I can without needing any of the aforementioned, which is 60% in Open XR toolkit. This runs nice and smooth for me using my 6900XT on almost any map and situation and it's still acceptably sharp and clear. If I run at 100% resolution in Open XR toolkit it looks amazingly sharp but everything starts to stutter (I find it hard to imagine an Aero or Crystal can look that much better for the price increase, but then I've never experienced one). So I find it hard to believe that it's possible to run even a G2 at 90Hz and 100% resolution, without motion reprojection or upscaling, even with an RTX4090, never mind an Aero or Crystal, at full refresh rate and resolution, but I'm happy to hear from anyone who is doing so? I'm not saying anyone is being dishonest or anything with the performance that they're getting, I'd just be happy to hear that's it's possible. -
They feel very solid to me, I don't notice any wobble in them at all.

South Atlantic Terrain Terrain Look and Feel
AlpineGTA replied to Raz_Specter's topic in South Atlantic
I really enjoy flying around on this map, it can look really quite stunning at times flying over the satellite imagery. I love the contrast in colours between the lower plains and the mountains and glaciers. And I don't get the same sense of scale with other maps as I do with this one. But yes, it would still be nice to see some performance improvements, particularly when low over the more built up areas; I appreciate that you're still working on it, thank you. -
SAU - Autopilot recovery and SAU - Cancel are two useful buttons to have on the joystick if you have the buttons. Also, emergency afterburner is useful to have mapped on a throttle button for dogfighting.

Are you switching from NVIDIA? I use my 6900XT with a Quest 2 with no problems, if that helps.

Hi, Yes, you can. The GNX SEM-V comes with a cable that plugs into the front of the STECS. You don't need to purchase a HID-Main, the STECS has it's own USB controller built in. You might want to purchase a GNX MFH (Multi-Functional Holder) to mount it though, if you don't already have one. Btw, when plugged into the STECS, all the buttons and controls of the GNX SEM will appear in the same column as part of the STECS in DCS controls settings when you're mapping the buttons.

I think I've noticed this too with my Reverb G2.

Fast moving aircraft still juddering during multi-player replay
AlpineGTA replied to AlpineGTA's topic in General Bugs
I did a short F1 flight on Caucasus and it wasn't affected either, I've only noticed it on Syria. I don't know if other maps are effected, I'll have to check. -
Yes, I see what you mean. Being able to have the ATEM plugged onto the back of the standard would have been a cool option. Maybe making another module that combines the ATEM and the STEM is something for VKB to consider.

Fast moving aircraft still juddering during multi-player replay
AlpineGTA replied to AlpineGTA's topic in General Bugs
Yes, it doesn't happen whist I'm flying, only when I'm watching the track. I don't think it's a rudder issue because you can see the aircraft juddering forwards and backwards if you look at it side profile using F2. And in F1 view looking through the HUD, the whole view is shaking, like your skull is being rattled violently. Also, when I originally observed it on the ECW server track, all aircraft that I viewed were doing it, not just my own. Like I say, I think maybe it's a graphics setting issue, I don't see it if I'm using MSAA. What graphics setting were you using when you saw it? Anyway, it's not a big deal, it seems like a minor thing that I can mitigate with different settings that I only use when watching back replays, it doesn't affect me whilst flying, which I use different settings for anyway. I just like to crank everything up to the max on replays so it looks pretty! Thanks for looking. -
Fast moving aircraft still juddering during multi-player replay
AlpineGTA replied to AlpineGTA's topic in General Bugs
Your track plays fine but I was able to reproduce it flying an instant action mission using the F1 on Syria. As soon as I take off the jitters start, on all views. However, a few seconds after making the left turn after take off and levelling out the jitters stop. I wonder if it's to do with graphics settings. I see the jitter if I use FSR (I'm using an AMD GPU), but if I use MSAA and watch the same replay I don't see the jitters. Screen shot of my graphics settings when seeing the jitter and track attached. F1 Syria test flight.trk -
Fast moving aircraft still juddering during multi-player replay
AlpineGTA replied to AlpineGTA's topic in General Bugs
Yes, I'm running 2.9.0.47168. I'll test again and see if I can save a shorter track to upload. Thanks. -
Even though it was marked as fixed after the last patch, I'm still seeing juddering of fast moving aircraft when watching a multi-player track replay. I haven't checked if it's still doing it whilst flying or in single player, I only noticed it when watching back a track replay from Enigma's cold war server. Every camera view I tried: F1, F2, F4, Ctrl+F2 was stuttering. All aircraft, not just my own were affected. Slow moving helicopters weren't stuttering. I could upload the track but it's over 50MB.

The cockpit seems to be clipping through the fuselage in VR
AlpineGTA replied to AlpineGTA's topic in Bugs and Problems
Do you recall what the response was? Are there any plans to fix it? -
Yes, seeing that through the lens video pretty much negated most of those concerns. It looks really good. And I'm guessing it will look fine through link cable. I never had a problem with link cable and my Quest 2 to be fair but obviously display port is always preferred for PCVR. The only real concern left is battery life and always having to keep the battery charged. That is one thing I always find a pain with my Quest 2. I use a powered hub for that but I've heard reports of the Q3 draining even with a powered hub.
-
I've been considering the Quest 3 as a replacement for my G2 but I've been put off by no display port cable, reports of jagged lines due to the angled displays, screen door effect and battery life, but having seen this through the lens video, I have to say I'm really surprised how good it looks. It's a pity he didn't include the usual through the lens of the DCS cockpit though.

I think the ATEM is only designed to connect to the throttle base in place of where the STEM module is already connected on the standard, such as you can see on the STECS mini plus. If you want both the ATEM and the STEM connected then you need to set it up like the STECS Max with the STEM mounted to a multi function holder. Surely it would have been better to have just bought the STECS Max?

Are there any plans to complete the external model in VR? It's a bit immersion breaking when you're in the door gunner's position to look out the side and see you have no tail! null

Yep, I don't have a NVIDIA card but I see it too with an AMD card and FSR enabled.
