  1. I would kinda understand that stance if it was a day one issue, but even then it's unacceptable, you are the paying customer, and you're not receiving the service you payed for. And this is dragging on for too long and is hurting the game big time. The negative reputation origin received will hurt other EA games. People from other regions are cancelling thier pre-orders, amazon has stopped selling the game. And it's sad, because simcity, the game, looks like a game of the year candidate, but it's butchered by sim city, the service. As to the server count issue, there is no reason why not to have enough servers on launch, other then screwing the players estimate. It's not like severs will rot when not used, or you cannot dedicate them to other purposes (other games beeing launched) once the initial few months have passed. Or you can outsource and rent few servers for 6months. Or you can, I don't know, provide a freaking offline mode for singleplayer. Cutting cost on the customers will allways backfire.
  2. I had hoped the gaming industry learned the error 37 lesson. Obviously not :-/
  3. It's C syntax, so my guess would be High Level Shader Language - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HLSL
  4. It looks nice graphically, but I feel it's a step back in every other way. And the biggest issue for me is that I like to play games years after I bought them, and with this I have no guarantee that EA will not pull the server plug 3 years from now to 'persuade' people into next iteration of simCity series.
  5. For those who don't know - you can download and test the engine/benchmark for free from http://unigine.com/products/valley/ My experience is: I got a 2500k I5 with GTX 560ti and my average FPS is 35 on ultra. That's with only landscape, no physics engine, no effects, one light per scene, no AI, no..nothing. Sure, you can tone the details down, but then the whole wow factor goes away. Also the visibility is poor for a flight sim, demo area is small (64 000 000 square meters is 8x8km), distanct trees looks awful, the detail lvl border is very obvious, even at ultra settings. Tbh, I can see the same beeing done in crysis 1, frostbite, or any other capable FPS engine.
  6. How do you buy a new car (or anything)? Do you watch a commercial for every car you consider buying and then buy the one with the best commercial? Or do you methodicaly compare specificacions, weight pros/cons of individual models and then pick the best compromise available to you? My wild gues would be the latter. If so, then why do you think that engine is superiour to EDGE, when you only saw a single ad?
  7. Change frequency.
  8. I don't think it's that easy. It would most likely require a new contract between ED (TFC most likely) and Valve, because DCS World is a new product and totally different concept. And such deal might not be that beneficial for ED. DCS World not beeing a regular f2p title might complicate thing a little as well. FC 3 requiring a game not purchasable on steam might be a problem as well.
  9. This looks like a disabled DMA problem to me. Try to copy a fairly large file (1GB+) from one location (on the same disk) to another and observe the CPU load. If it spikes to 90%+, even on one core., then it's a DMA problem. To fix it: If your HDD is a SATA drive, then a enable/disable DMA option should be in your bios. For a IDE drive - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Turn-Direct-Memory-Access-DMA-on-or-off edit: you are running 64bit OS, aren't you?
  10. What the hell happened to colors in games? What's the point in having a high-end monitors and tv screens when everything ends up so washed out in that stupid grey/brown shader.
  11. Check your own lights, AI is mimicking players light settings.
  12. Ofc Here is the problem. 1920 is main monitor and main viewport, 1680 is second monitor. (the second arrow is wrong, should be 1680, hastly editing :) ) As you can see, the content of the NVG is shifted to the right, this occurs only in RENDER_MODE 1. EYE_CENTER = float2(0.27f, 0.63f); - which should be 920px on the X axis. EYE_SIZE = float2(0.255f, 0.85f);
  13. Great mod :) I've encountered a little issue, the RENDER_MODE = 1 will not work if the middle of your main viewpoirt is not the middle of your diplay area. I use a 1920x1080 (main viewport) + 1680x1050(MFDs) monitors, with total resolution of 3600x1080. In my case the NVG render was shifted to the right (the ring was drawn at correct position/size, but the content of the ring was not taken from the area the ring occupies) I rooted the problem to lines 454 and 503, in which the scale area is defined. Changing the 0.5f in width portion to actual center of my viewport (0.27f) fixed the problem.
  14. Ok, gave it a go, and the results are...interesting :) SP: I don't own FC3, yet I'm able to select the F-15C, the flight will spawn. Cockpit view kinda 'works', camera position is right, but the cockpit model is missing - obviously because it's part of the FC3 package I don't own. I'm also unable to control the plane in any way. :) A-10C: Everything is working ok. A F-15C AI flight will spawn and take-off, so that trigger is working. :)
  15. Ka-50 weights around 8tons, BTR-80 14tons, tracked IFV 25+tons ;) Afaik the only things protected in Ka-50 (and other helis) are pilot and gearbox.
  16. I own A-10C, but I don't own FC 3.0, so if you wanna test it feel free to pm me. Doesn't have to be a working mission, just a 'proof of concept'
  17. If you can shoot, you shoot. There is no reason why not to launch, when you can launch, even if it a low pk shot. I kinda uderstand the gamers attitude at preserving their inventory. But that is not how it works irl. None of the staff will give you hard time for firing a missile with low pk when you had a valid launch solution, they would however gave you hard time for not firing a missile when you had the chance.
  18. Right Alt + \ is the key
  19. The key for radio changed between BS2 and BS2 World, the from BS2 will only work in easy radio comm or on the ground. Had the same problem when I moved to BS2, I'm at work curently, so I cannot check what the correct key is.
  20. In war scenario there is no logical reason to pretend a shot, when you can actually shoot.
  21. I don't agree with you on this one. After reading the forums I got the impression that there is a significant portion of players who feel entitled to a free BS2 copy just because they purchased BS1 and perceive BS2 as a payed patch. I agree with you that it would be great not to do any kind of ownership verification, obsolete product install/activation..etc. But we both know that realistically, there is no way for that to be happening. ;)
  22. Yes, you have an ED account with bound BS1 licence and during install you enter that account name/pass and the installer verifies if that account has a valid BS1 licence. Now, what is preventing me from handling my account name/pass to a friend for BS1 verification? ED has no way of distinquis mine (legitimate) request from that of my friend. Having an activated copy of BS1 sitting on your HW is the best ensurance for ED that you legitimately own BS1, because you had to go through the activation process where a DRM provider verified your ownership. DRM providers beeing steam, or starfoce - in which case you are down one activation, a costly investment if you would like to help a friend with illegitimate BS2 activation. And what if I want to play BS1? I.e. for the campaigns that are not compatibile with BS2, or to play with a friend who only owns BS1/FC 2.0.? ED cannot just strip you from the right to use a product you purchased. I can only see the support beeing spammed with problems like 'I didn't realized it would strip me from BS1 ownership', 'It wasn't me, my little brother clicked the button while I was in the bathroom, I want my BS1 back'...etc
  23. Easily exploitable A single ED account with bound BS1 licence could by used by multiple people to install the upgrade version of BS2.
  24. Happy to help :)
  25. The dimensions in pixels will vary with resolution and monitor pixel density (400pixels on 24'' full hd monitor will not be the same size as 400pixels on a full HD 50'' TV screen). What you can do is divide your horizontal/vertical resolution with width/height of the display area of your monitor. You will get how many pixel are in each cm (or inch) of your display. Multiple this number by width/height of the cougar MFD and you'll get the desired pixel resolution.
