Yeah you are right. Let's all ignore any new hardware and ensure that DCS only ever runs on old hardware.

EXPERIMENTAL: Resizable BAR in DCS for NVIDIA RTX 30 Series GPUs
Hoirtel replied to ShaunX's topic in Virtual Reality
For the last few months I have always used fast in VR. Really felt that it made things much smoother and cleanly locked my fps to reprojected or full refresh rates. Good to see some data to support that! -
LOL!! Far from teaching life... Your statements are just wrong. "core issue that makes the sim unable to leverage even the most capable hardware" This is just not true!

+1 BN Performance is increased in 2.7 no doubt. I would expect people with poor PC maintenance skills with excess processes/services are seeing new impacts due to a rework of DCS core. PC's are not consoles. They need constant work to keep them at their best. I bet 2.7 would run great for you on a clean windows install....

This is not the game's fault. You need to learn how to manage a computer and troubleshoot problems. PC's are not consoles they need looking after to work their best.

Some initial 2.7 feedback from a VR user (Oculus Quest 2). Overall great job ED! performance has clearly improved for VR. It seems like you have incorporated some sort of VR rendering change similar to the VR shader mod. I personally never got on with this mod visually, but it did add performance. Its is great that we now have a "proper" version and its all a win as far as I can see. Clouds look good, I have seen the reports of them looking soft to people, I think I see what they mean but this may be a bit more subjective. Perhaps some refining for the future but I can enjoy them as they are. They do jitter, I know you are on it. The clouds certainly seem to have little impact on fps. The only negative I have see is the lighting. Not sure if this has been raised elsewhere but the lighting in the cockpit doesn't look as good as previously. In 2.5 I couldn't have the shadows off as the cockpits seemed to unnaturally glow in the footwells and around the control column, switches etc. I used to use low which stopped this with the minimum performance impact. I now see this glow on all shadow settings and seems a step back in term of realism. In the f18 its almost as if there are lights underneath the seat and side panels. This lighting feedback might be another subjective area and maybe others disagree. Terrain shadows seem much improved. I could only ever use flat previously as they would flicker in VR and I found that off putting. From what I can see this is now fixed and they look much better and I'm glad to be able to use them.

EXPERIMENTAL: Resizable BAR in DCS for NVIDIA RTX 30 Series GPUs

I'd be interested to hear if 2.7 has changed the way in which rebar is or isn't utilized in DCS. There seems to be lots of performance changes! -
BN did say once that in game PD affects cloud quality. 0.5 they look rubbish.

Did they miss the stabilised mavericks for A10C II off the patch notes?

UK releases usually not until 4/5/6 pm

Ha ha ha. I was wondering when this would come out. Btw what is that skin?
-
I'm right in thinking that the current heaviest clouds, i.e full cover, full snow/rain - make no difference to performance over the same mission with clear skies? Just saying....

I'm not trying to discuss what fps I actually get. This varies. I confirm that my headset only runs 72hz by seeing 72fps in the menu. Plus I can see slight strobing effect all the time, which is why I run at 80hz.

Nvidia 465.89, HAGs, Game Mode, VR
Hoirtel replied to Hoirtel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've not done any proper fps comparison but I think this driver is good. HAGs doesn't seem to make a difference so I've left it off for now. -
BEWARE AGAIN!!! I am very shocked to find that the oculus v27 software has now been put into final release and still has this bug locking it to 72hz regardless of settings. I have had to do a full system restore to get it back and snoozed the oculus updates. This is very very poor on their part - this massive bug was reported in the v27 beta and they have done nothing to fix it.
-
The engine isn't getting updated until later on as far as the notes say.
-
I'm guessing that is the ATFLIR?
-
VR requires more pixels than the headsets native res to mitigate distortion. Plus its doing it twice (one for each eye).

Nvidia 465.89, HAGs, Game Mode, VR

I have Nvidia GeForce experience installed so it will do the driver updates on request - also has the option for clean install which is useful. -
Nvidia 465.89, HAGs, Game Mode, VR
Hoirtel replied to Hoirtel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Its not meant to be a fps comparison thread. If people have done testing with before and after then fps or frametimes are helpful (% uplift would be even better). I'm really just after shared experiences to see if people are seeing change rather than anything else. As covered on many other performance threads so many people use the game differently is too difficult to compare fps accurately across systems. -

I haven't done testing. It's gaining other peoples experience as I'm sure lots of people will have updated. My PC specs are irrelavent. -

I plan to do some testing, I won't be able to spend much time on it and its unlikely to be fully conclusive so good to get others feedback. You are on 465.89? I take it this is new drivers alone, no other changes. It sounds like the driver could be a great improvement. -
Seems there is a new Nvidia driver that is supposed to fix several VR issues (465.89), I can say my experience seems to be very positive in DCS VR and I notice its seems much smoother now. I also saw that with this new release, for another sim, people are recommending to now have hardware accelerated GPU scheduling on and also windows game mode on. I haven't yet fully tested this but at the weekend I did mess around with the other sim, switch these on, didn't get that much better performance. However when I ran DCS I seemed to get very good frame rates. Getting full unprojected fps while looking into (down) the F18 cockpit, about 20K over Syria. I haven't ever had that. I thought it was all the driver then I realised that I had not switched these off... I need to do some proper testing when I get time, but thought I see if anyone else has experienced anything similar with any of the above.

I know it was a requirement for the Asus boards and rebar, but not sure what happens if you don't. Worth a shot, but it could be the 9th gen cpu. But it should fail a little more gracefully than that tbh. Hmm. Nvidia and GIgabyte (my card and board) both say only 10th and 11tb gen cpus. But then it's in the new firmware for my board. WTF. Don't know if I'll try it again....
