  1. Got a couple of questions on the effects of unlocking this CPU providing the extra cores are not defective. My board is capable of doing this and I know how I think ( turning on ACC ). What I would like to know is the effect on the temperature of the CPU after unlocking but not overclocking, I was going to wait until I bought an after market cooler but I could very well do with the extra performance from a quad core in some of my games. Let me know your experiences with it and it would be even better if anyone has tried it on the stock cooling provided with the CPU. I just don't want to give it a try and end up burning out the CPU if that's possible ( I thought the pc shuts down when things overheat ). Thanks for any insight.
  2. I will try your suggestions once my new power supply arrives. My current Corsair TX650W just died last night ( barley 5 month old ) so I'm using my old Hiper 550W. Just want to make sure I'm not down on power and therefore performance. I should also test it with HDR off, I never saw an FPS hit with my old 8800GT but it could have an effect on this one. I finally got to test the temps in dcs 2 days ago and even under 80% load it never went over 64C and that was all at 50% fan speed. It's been running at nice frames so far but it still doesn't feel smooth at 30 frames when looking around. It's not the jumpy jerky view problem from having low vram that I experienced on my old 512MB card.
  3. Sorry for the late reply, power supply exploded. I can't be bothered to argue all I'm trying to say is it's not nice to hear things like that when your trying your best to help someone. Anyway the matters over so lets keep the thread going in the right direction.
  4. I told the guy where to go and what to change... Only reason I never gave the same explanation as Kuky is because I haven't had experience changing that value which Kuky clearly has. You should keep things like that to yourself in future, myself and Dimebag were only trying to help and it's not like we gave incorrect information.
  5. Haven't reinstalled notepad++ after reformatting yet so can't get the line number at the moment but this is the section I'm talking about. Specifically the lod multiplier. Camera { current = "Medium"; Low { near_clip = 0.2; middle_clip = 4; far_clip = 150000; structures = {30, 2000}; trees = {1000, 1500}; dynamic = {300, 20000}; dynamic2 = {300, 20000,0.5}; objects = {3000, 80000}; mirage = {3000, 20000}; surface = {10000, 50000}; lights = {50, 10000}; districtobjects = {100, 100}; districts = {2000, 2000}; lodMult = 1; lodAdd = 100; } Medium { near_clip = 0.2; middle_clip = 4; far_clip = 150000; structures = {40, 10000}; trees = {1000, 6000}; dynamic = {300, 20000}; dynamic2 = {300, 20000,0.5}; objects = {3000, 80000}; mirage = {3000, 20000}; surface = {14000, 80000}; lights = {100, 30000}; districtobjects = {300, 300}; districts = {6000, 6000}; lodMult = 1.5; lodAdd = 0; } High { near_clip = 0.2; middle_clip = 4; far_clip = 150000; structures = {60, 20000}; trees = {1000, 12000}; dynamic = {300, 20000}; dynamic2 = {300, 20000,0.5}; objects = {5000, 80000}; mirage = {3000, 20000}; surface = {20000, 80000}; lights = {200, 80000}; districtobjects = {400, 400}; districts = {12000, 12000}; lodMult = 1.0; lodAdd = 0; } } @Ice: Where's the problem in him trying it if he backs up the file? Personally I've only fiddled with the lodAdd and it did make a difference. You will notice non-smooth section on the fuselage if you set the view distance to low I think it was, changing the lodAdd from 100 to 0 in this file fixed that problem for me when I had a lesser system. Also, 80% of people don't have the performance to sacrifice for better levels of detail that far out or even have a need for it. Targets tend to be dead on my end before I get that close and if I'm strafing a tank the firing range is 0.7 slant and break off at 0.5 and the tanks detailed for me. I never said it wouldn't work I said it might work and it might not, not every setting in the graphics.cfg still effects the game since the engine upgrade.
  6. I haven't done this in a while now, just got back to the sim, how about trying EJ801530? I'm guessing he is dropping a trailing zero. My thinking is that dropping leading zero's will only cause utter confusion so I doubt it's modelled like that however dropping a zero at the end of the coordinates seems reasonable.
  7. Like Dimebag said, there should be LOD options inside the graphics config for each view distance setting. You could try editing those values ( backing up the file before-hand ), no idea if it will work or not but it's worth a shot. Expect an FPS hit. I take it you mean visually looking at the targets and not through the TGP. Settings have been deprecated or moved into LUA files so like I said before it may not work.
  8. Just managed to get some temp testing done, couldn't check it on DCS at the moment. I played BC2 maxed on dx11 on a nearly full server for around 20-30 mins. Watching the temps in windowed mode I never saw it get above 64C, activity never went above 50 and the fan speed never went above 50. I'm no expert but I'd say the fan is doing ok seeing as the room I'm in is also quite warm.
  9. Just edited my post above with the results, I took out the resolution section. Reason I said what I said is that it was causing me problems in another game but I've tried it in my tests just there and it was perfectly fine. I did a full reformat just after installing the card, did a few tests then reformatted. I haven't checked the temps whilst in-game but I have done the odd alt+tab and checked and I haven't seen anything over 60C but maybe it had time to cool before I got into CCC.
  10. Thanks I will give those settings a try and report back soon. I forgot to state the weather was set on 'Fall' with 'Autumn Rainy Day' preset and I had one wingman. Tests were done flying low over the city. Edit: With your settings but 512 display resolution and clear weather I was getting 25-30 and it was very smooth around Batumi even when looking at the city through the TGP. Thanks for the help. Hopefully it run's ok in the campaign with all that activity on the airfield and the weather.
  11. Thanks for the replys. Tried those and I'm lucky to get above 20 FPS on a freshly patched install. Baring in mind I am doing my testing whilst taking off from Batumi and flying around the big city. Yeah that's how I've left it, came like that as default and didn't want to start messing things up. Only thing I've changed is forcing Vsync and Tiple Buffering, which seems to not work for some reason. Main problem I'm facing is the fact that when looking around with trackir it seems as though the frames are not blurring together ( hard to explain ). It just doesn't seem smooth and the fps I was getting at that moment was 25. Those frames I can perfectly live with but it doesn't feel like 25 fps it feels more like 10-15.
  12. Just upgraded from an old 8800GT to an XFX HD 5770 1GB ( Single Slot Version ). I'm new to ATI cards and would like to know what settings would give better performance, I've heard things like disabling Catalyst A.I can help in some games and in others setting it to max can help. I'm running the 11.3 drivers, would be nice to know what settings other 5770 owners are using in the sim and in the control panel. I've done a thorough search of the forums and yet I still end up confused with the control centre settings. I've now started killing CCC.exe and MOM.exe before playing any games, don't know if this is the right thing to do for every game.
  13. For the second question, as far as I'm aware the JTAC will give you coordinates near but not exactly on the target. I may be wrong since I haven't played the A-10C for quite some time.
  14. I think I understand what your saying. If it would take too much time to implement then an option to send a certain target through data link in the editor would be sufficient as you said. I don't know the details on the comparability patch, but I'm hoping we will see the FAC and AFAC brought over with the engine update.
  15. Which again makes me think it's something to do with the new texturing techniques they used. Hopefully it can be optimized but if not then it's not a big deal turning the textures down if it wasn't linked to the TAD resolution.
  16. Shouldn't you bank the aircraft, maintain altitude with back pressure and center the ball with the pedals? This is how I was taught in a Piper Warrior anyway.
  17. Yeah I've tried settings on the lowest possible and no change, did all this when I was tweaking to get rid of it. You are helping Nate, whatever we can gather to pass onto the developers is a bonus. I think it's related to the normal mapping and things like that. Tried all options on the texture filtering also. For an example of memory usage see this post, the guy has two 896MB cards, both showing 892MB usage each. I currently don't have any programs to monitor my GPU. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1130509&postcount=12 I'm off to give it one more test with no AA and no AF just to make sure. Edit: The results are here, setting textures to high reduced my fps quite a bit and brought back the stuttering. Check the screenshots for the settings I used on the test. If however I drop textures to medium and set AA 4x AF 8x and filtering to quality I can run the test mission without any problems. Medium seems to nearly eliminate the stuttering for me and low completely eliminates it. The mission used for testing was "Shooting Gallery", even on the lowest ingame settings with textures high, alone on an airfield it stutters heavily when looking around.
  18. Completely forgot he was running a 2.7 dual core. :doh:
  19. Experimented a few times with all sorts of settings, low to no AA causes big sudden drops in fps when looking around in the cockpit. For example capped at 30fps it will drop to 15 or lower for a split second as it's loading the textures and then it will hit 30 again causing a stuttering effect when looking around all the time. Setting to medium or low textures eliminates this stuttering effect. This happens even if scenes are on low so it's not caused by buildings but I'm guessing the buildings will make it worse since there are more textures to load. It seems once it's loaded the textures when you look to the right side it will not cache them and if you look forward then back to the right a few seconds later it will load them again. This is my thread on the matter if it helps. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=69151 Anything you would like me to test and post the results, let me know.
  20. Haven't read through the other posts but as me and a few other guys found out. When running 512mb of graphics memory setting textures to high causes unbearable stuttering, setting to low fixes this.
  21. You will get different views depending if people prefer Nvidia or ATI. Check out the new HD6990, that will run you up 550 quid though. You do not need a beast of a graphics card to run the game on high settings. Can you tell me how much RAM your current GPU has?
  22. Default key commands are '7' and '8'. One dispenses and one stops the dispensing, can't remember which does what though.
  23. :rotflmao::megalol:
  24. Could you tell me where this setting is? Never seen it before and I can't find it at the moment. I'm running driver 266.58, was the latest 2 days ago. My monitor puts the black bars down the side for 4:3 resolutions but it still stretches them height wise. Would be great if I could find the setting your on about so that it will put the bars at the top and the sides for my widesceen resolutions also. Your 8800GT might perform better than mine ( if that's what you've got ). I'm convinced mine runs worse than anyone elses on even the lowest of control panel settings. Tested with multiple games with people who have the same specs and they run it better, might be the age of the GPU or the make, it's a Palit 8800GT. For instance I can run BS 1680x1050 on max with water at the lowest and 4xAA 8xAF but as soon as I turn the shkval on it gets really choppy. For comparison's sake my core clock is 600, shader 1500 and memory 900. Edit: Found the setting and it's already on "use NVIDIA scaling with fixed-aspect ratio". Going to try setting it to "Do not scale".
  25. 22" wide screen with a lower resolution than native makes it stretched and pixelated, to get around this I use windowed mode. Only bad side to this is I can't seem to use vsync. @Celticcoho: :thumbup:
