Blackshark 2 AI Wingman Survival Tweaks

Thank you goldfinger, I think it was one of your tweaks in BS1 that prompted me to dig around in the files in the first place ;) -
Blackshark 2 AI Wingman Survival Tweaks
TAIPAN_ posted a topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I've been replaying the Georgian Oil War campaign again with the new version, and wanted to tweak my wingman again, this is the result and it works fairly well if you follow the guidelines your wingman should survive 80% of the time. Install with Modman package: http://files.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/131355/ Blackshark 2 ONLY. Details from the readme: MODMAN Package - install with Modman and the BS2 patch. This mod is intended to resolve *some* of the wingman frustrations, i.e. make him fly into death less often. It won't greatly increase your wingmans kills, as that is not the intent. But it will make him more likely to survive. * Turned on pathfinding in mountains for lower skill level AI * Reduced missile launch time * Increased slightly the distance for launching ATG missiles * Vehicle detection distance changed to 10km instead of 5.5km. We can see them that far so why not our wingman. * Infantry detection distance changed to 3km instead of 100m. At 100m they would be dead.. * Missile evasion turned on for even average wingmen * Reduced reaction delay on missile launch to 0 for all skill levels. Your wingmen doesn't have to be stupid even if he is low skill. Other things YOU should do to ensure your wingmans survival: * ALWAYS remove rockets from your wingman in the mission planner, rocket use gets people killed in an environment with anti-aircraft threats (almost every DCS mission). * Only send him on 1-2km Recce at a time, 5km Recce can get him killed * Don't order him to attack after other attacks - ask him to rejoin first. This allows him to use his standoff range better. * If giving a non-targetted order, ask him to rejoin after a couple of targets so that he gets his standoff range back. Happy Hunting! PS Wingman AI in Black Shark 2 is MUCH improved I'm very impressed Thank You ED!! These tweaks are more of a "cheat" to help us in a difficult SAM/AAA environment. BS2 Helicopter AI improvements from ED: PPS this is what happened to my wingman before I tweaked it - notice anything missing? :megalol: -
DCS: BS2 graphics -- with the times, or ahead of the times?

Really? It has auto AF? Where did you find out? Thanks -

That's what I meant yeah video RAM. MSI Afterburner shows it hitting 1500mb. I didn't think anyone still had data swapping to virtual ram ;) Well I tested again on FULLSCREEN ticked. It actually does make a big difference now - 50FPS instead of 30 on that "battle" mission, even when facing the battle and I flew at some MBTs just to see if it would handle it. It never used to make a difference, but now fullscreen does it seems. Mastiff - I thought Anisotropic Filtering was "free"? in that it doesn't affect FPS on modern cards? hence I went with 16x -

Cool that's similar to me. 30fps when facing enemy. 50fps heading back to base. Yeah it's definitely playable, just the occasional micro stutter as VRAM swaps more stuff in. -

Would you be able to test the single mission called "battle"? I get 30fps in that there's quite alot going on, but wondering if others in high res get more? I run high settings but no SSampling and no HDR or heat blur. 4x AA, 16xAF. Video ram is using all my 1.5gb for the 30" CPU is sandy bridge 4.5ghz OC, with GTX580. Don't know what to do increase performance more. My CPU is locked at 25%, so even Sandy bridge is capped due to single core. -
me too lol, although more out of laziness than love. Easier to install and reinstall whenever I break it installing mods
-
Not yet but will do! thanks. Maybe you should bundle it with the various high res terrain noise textures? Because need to change the Noise2PerSquare to 75, and if people install in the wrong order it gets overwritten. I know I'm pretty much happy to just put all your mods on or customise if I need to ;)

real HD black shark cockpit....
TAIPAN_ replied to RICARDO's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
got it :) So - Ricardo when do we get the new version of HD pit?? ;) I think some files need conversion to DDS and to be stored inside zip files now. -

Looks good gagipro! Those 3GB 580s will come in handy. I have a 1.5GB and I can see it maxing out the memory now in Black shark 2, it never did in Black Shark 1. Some say SLI doesn't help, but it looks like it must in your case I'll wait until next year for a Nvidia 680 before cranking up the shkval on another screen yet. -
Cool thanks

updated first post with mods I've got on now

ROF is beautiful, although the side effect is that you can't have as many AI objects as DCS. It models so much physics and sends it all across the network too. When planes are destroyed, the position of every little piece of canvas floating through the air is transmitted to all clients, and they see them in exact position and movement. -
C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\DCS Warthog\MissionEditor\Logbook.lua that's it
-
Yes you're right, I only flew for 2 minutes and it must have been the light and shadows that made the stock one look decent! I can only imagine how nice the real HD pit is going to look with cockpit shadows when it comes, as long as it doesn't bring my system to it's knees

Is that with HDR on or off? Other settings on high? What FPS are you getting? -
Looks cool Is it still Ka-50 flight model? What changes does your mod do?
-
Where was the lock? Did you lock the top of the vehicle or the bottom? I find it has less chance of hitting the ground if I lock the top. Also always use the smallest lock window it works best.
-
Search your profile folder for a file called logbook. You can edit it with notepad to remove the dead status. I think in BS2 and A-10C the files are now stored under your user profile. C:\users\user name for windows 7 c:\documents and settings for old windowsezz
-
ps Dragon will you do your missions to contain both A-10C and Blackshark? Would be very nice to have together Cheers

Thanks guys, Peter - it's still useful to know what doesn't work as well ;) If someones tested it, it saves time to know because I'm impatient I'm going to try some anyway.. Well today I tried Ricardos HD blackshark pit - and I thought it was working, but only tried it for 2 minutes. EDIT: It wasn't working, just looked nice because of shadows.. The other mod I tested was the Tooltip mod by Bucic and another guy, that shows the key combination when you hover over a control, and it does work.

Me too on a Farp. Ironically I only stayed to repair my landing gear after coming in too fast for a rearm. Then I couldn't take off again when repairman killed my landing gears lok
-
Yeah DCS handles non full screen quite well, as some of us know when we setup extra monitor. Only thing is Vsync doesn't work but that's not a big deal.

Should be some blackshark1 mods and also now some A-10C mods will work with Blackshark 2 new engine. To save some time - can anyone reply if they've tried an old mod that works or doesn't? Using Trim gets rid of most of these issues. But if you can't or won't use trim and just want to fly manually, turn flight director on its easier. Just remember you can't shoot and fly at the same time! Without trim you will wish it was a 2 seater.
