  1. Personally I love eVGA cards. I have an eVGA mobo and GTX260. You have a couple options. You can buy two cards and spend $400-500 or you can buy a GTX290 for the same. The GTX290 has two cards in one device and runs in SLI. If you have the jack, get two and run quad SLI! For the money, there is not much advantage to the i7 yet. I get simaler numbers, or even higher on 3Dmark on the CPU score side with my Q6600 at 2.69ghz. Once games start using the capabilities of the i& things will change. But for now it's a very large jump in price for minimal gain, for the most part. Although, good high performance LGA775 boards are getting hard to come by, so you may not have much choice. If you go i& make sure you get a X58 board. Single bridge setup that is a lott better than a normal N/S setup.
  2. Aren't most of the electronics automated on the EW aircraft? So it would be like flying a civ sim, but with all the AI doing the fun combat stuff. Sounds a little boring to me.
  3. Huh, and I thought ED meant Eagle Dynamics. Guess I was wrong. :music_whistling:
  4. This may have been brought up before, but what about rain/snow on the glass? Then the wiper on the Ka-50 will actually be usefull! I would add to realism and should not add much stress to the system.
  5. Don't they make simulators for the military?
  6. It's a PS2 wheel, not a PC wheel. It may not be USB. Some are and some are not.
  7. Could this be any more off topic?
  8. So, I want that for DCS!
  9. No, I'm tring to get her comfortable with games. She messed around in the ArmA2 training area because no one was shooting at her. So, once she is more comfortable with games, I will guid her through some HL2 since it's pretty easy and gradually adds more difficulty. Makes it easier for newbies. She will never be into flight sims. Way to complicated for her tastse. She's smart enough to do it, but does not want to put that kind of work into a game.
  10. Very Top Gear of you sir.
  11. I meant phyically connect them. As in mechanical connection, not electrical. You should beable to make the peddles work as one axis in the controle pannel. No wiring needed. The only issue with connecting them is that you have to find the midpoint of the movement so when you push one down, the other moves up. Otherwise it will not work.
  12. I have played with it in mission editor, but no consistant resualts. The sudden climbing is the most common one. It's not every time, but often enough to get annoying. I'll set hover at about 100-200meters above a slope so I can see over a ridge at the target area. I'll make sure everyhting is good, take a close look at the analog VVI, then focus on targets. Then I will noice I'm moving as I scan the area, I I then notice I'm at 300+meters and climbing. I lower collective and it starts as a slow drop in the VVI then fast. Not votex ring fast, but much more than intended. I'll get back to where I was and then rest hover. It's really odd. But like I said mostly happens around large hills or mountian. Thought maybe I caught an updraft or something.
  13. I'll be married in just a few days over 2 months. Flying to Aruba for the wedding! The Mrs is pretty cool with my simming/gaming. I even have gotten her to play a little bit of the console games. Working her up for some Half-Life2.
  14. I tried using my racing peddles as rudder. Really does not work well since the peddles are not attached to each other so they do not move together. If you can come up with a simple pivot point and connecting rod setup, it may work. I'm just not willing to hack up my peddle base to do it.
  15. I've already started changing my commands a bit now that I no longer have to worry about views. Thanks for the info on the button settings Vekkinho
  16. So, how do I change the buttons used by TrackIR? I'm having issues with it getting shut off when trying to use the comms menue. Can it be changed? I have TrackIR 5 if that makes a differnece.
  17. So, acording to the instructor guy you suck huh? Seems he was riding you a little hard. lol
  18. The only odd thing I've noticed when hovering is that some times the aircraft will randomly start to gain or lose alt with out me touching anything. Also sudden pitching and rolling. Everything will be stable and then while picking out targets, then all of the sudden I'm riding a mechanical bull. I'll flip off auto hover, restabilise. Set trim again, just in case, and then turn auto hover back on. Some times it will start bucking again. Now, I have mostly noticed this when near large hills and mountains. My guess is that it has something to do with turbulence, but I'm not sure.
  19. It centers the the selected waypoint on the ABRIS with the map in a north is up oriantation. Normally the abris has current heading as up. If I remember correctly you click "info" then select "waypoint" from the pop up menue. Then just turn the selector knob till the target waypoint it showing. If I know where some threats are from the briefing, I may mark them or make a mental note.
  20. Most of the functions are not very useful in the sim. Aside from basic NAV functions, the only thing I use is search to try and find closer airfields in an emergency. The GPS pages are kinda useless. Why would I need to know GPS coverage at a given way point in sim? I never need to dray on screen because target boxes are pretty much laid out ahead of time. I don't measure distances because when I need to I just use the laser. If I know how far away I am, I can judge where to place IP's for my wingmen by eye and be pretty dead on. That's been my experience so for. Maybe some of the more veteraned pilots know of some uses but aside from that , it's pretty much a fancy HSI with topographic map. One thing I do like to do though is enter way point mode and select the target way point. This places that way point at the center of the screen. It reorients the map to north is up instead of aircraft heading is up. But if your spacial thinking is good you will have no issues. This makes setting up DL target packages for wingmen easier.
  21. I set it once and It's used multi cores just fine even since. It only uses two of the four though. I gained twice the FPS after doing it. Wend from 15-20 FPS to 30-40 most of the time.
  22. I've been using the Saitek X family for about 15 years now. The X52 is a good stick. Since you have a stick and throttle as separate units, it makes flying a lot easier. As for sliding, the little rubber feet are pretty grippy. If mine slides, I just wipe them off and it sticks again. The suction cups are there if you are overly acressive or your desk is really slippery. Under normal and propper flight, the stick will rest just fine.
  23. Awesome! What settings do you have the AP in? Any time I try to make manuvers I need to hold the trimmer down or I have the fight the AP wanting to steer back to the heading I last trimmed at. And trimming over and over really seems ineffective since you have to center each time.
  24. All taht gear and not track IR?
  25. And like I said, mine don't. Never have. The mouse has only moved the cursor, not the camera. So, there must be a setting some place that makes it unnecessary to mod it. Not sure what I did but it's never been an issue.
