Squid_DK replied to MACADEMIC's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang

ED's move into WWII simulation - a newcomer's perspective
Squid_DK replied to MACADEMIC's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Doesn't matter what ED makes, there will always be a loud group nagging about it, such is the very spirited and affectuate ways of simmers. you can actually split it into fractions, some don't like X sim because it doesn't feature this or that and other will say it is the gospel because they live by it. many fails to see that behind the scenes you have a company that is basically interested in harvesting as many sales as they can, and by reaching a larger audience than the jetheads they can diversify. I for one have limited time so I am still finding new stuff and features in A-10C and I got that on release day, I'm in no hury, I plan on living at least 30 more years. I think a WW II era fighter was a bit about time from ED, and I will still get any product (Sim oriented) they produce. Staffan -
Errrhh, that must be an experimental, the P-51 did not operate from ships, that is navy and marine corps domain, and they had the F designation on their fighters. Nice images though had not seen those before

What do you think about P-51D and Flying Legends?

Korea would be nice, especially with a flyable F4U ;) plenty of opportunity there -
What do you think about P-51D and Flying Legends?
Squid_DK replied to csper's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I am fairly sure that any product page for Flying Legends will mention that the surroundings are modern day Georgia, and that AI are modern (as in the last 40 years) of aviation. if not I will agree that the P-51D can create issues, And as said by Jim wh knows what else will become available. What I can see or imagine is that ED is kinda cornering the market on MS with their Flight, the concept could be along the same lines with some more goal oriented stuff from ED. Again that is what I can suspect I have no magic crystal ball. Staffan -

I did mention how a lot of stuff can easily emulate the WehrMacht stuff, and remember you have never been promised a 1940's simulation here, and I have never argumented against your viewpoints I offered my viewpont for my first post here and you immediately jumped on it. -
The ZU-23 I would have no qualms in going after and letting represent something like the 37mm FlaK 43, BTR's can play -251 truck mounted ZU well there you have the SdKFz 7 with FlaK 43. Then again I used to play Interceptor where I was told that my graphic blob was a F/A-18 Staffan

And you did miss mine, as stated, a lot of ground units are eligible for targets in DCS. and bland worlsd start a IL2 game straight from editor only your flight... you will only have that one thing in the world... do the same in DCS and you will have road traffic and trains. Staffan -

Many units here are fine for WW II emulation from the ZU-23 over the trucks and in part the T-55 but more so infantry, and structures I really don't mind that it isn't a FlaK 43, Panther or PanzerGrenadiere There is plenty of opportunities. and I want a plane that offers the challenges the real deal did that means more to me than just jumping in and fooling around, I want to go over procedures, I know that is not for everyone and thank the holy pizzadough for different tastes. There is a lot more to flying a WW II warbird then what you mentioned, you have to understand your engine and its weaknesses to be able to get everything from it, there is the use of oil coolers and radiators, you have turbochargers, some planes don't have constant speed propellors, you have to watch temperature constantly, you have drag from cowlflaps or oil and aircoolers. but that all depends on how realistic you want it, I prefer all out realism so you will be very busy watching your plane and getting the most of it. I think several testors here have stated that flying the -51 is a handfull and I believe many are in for a very rude awakening. I will also admit I have been through enough to not feel a need to start nagging on a product just because it isn't my first choice and I can see plenty of targets on the lists in DCS from truckmountes ZU-23's to UAZ jeeps over roadside checkpoints and infantry, I'm pretty sure a tanker truck will burn just nicely after a 3 second burst with 6 fifties. Alicatt your grandson is like my 2½ year old son, he likes to see planes, he loves it when I take him to a knoll outside copenhagen airport where he can see them takeoff. He has also tried helping me with some scale modelling, and he loves flightsims (he did control the throttles when I landed an A-10C in DCS and that ended up as an ok landing. Staffan -
Definetely looking good, hands down no brain purchase for me, plenty of stuff in the game we could label targets. On a side note I will also get the A2A P-51 mainly to fly in other areas and try that legendary long range out. Staffan

News: At 5.45pm CET yesterday Sara gave birth to a gon, he is bigger than his older brother was weighing in at 2510 grams at birth and being 49cm long (fonny how you just change that to tall when the kids reach "accident-waiting-to-hapen-age") Mother is fine, only stimulant she was given was pure oxygen, she is a tough chick. Dur to the water that broke so early they are forced to stay two days at hospital. Staffan

I have been rather absent here lately, mostly from the forums not from the games My wife has been pregnant and her pelvis was beginning to slide, so I have not really had the time to be here, but now: Yesterday evening 10pm CET my wifes water broke, Today at 9pm we went to the hospital and started preparations for our second child (boy aswell). I have now been sent home to nurse my fever and severe cold, but the second she goes into labour I will rush there (hospital is only 350 meters from our home) plan is that they will start the labour artificially as they had to the last time. Now the fun fact, our first son Christian (2 y.o. now) was born on a Thursday and it was sunny and mild, today is Thursday and it is Sunny and mild!... Consistency rules. It will be a boy (as that was definetely very clear on ultrasound) and name has been chosen and we also know who shall christen him next year. Just felt like sharing. Staffan

The main geaw well doors don't open when extending or retracting the undercarriage, cosmetic but IMO annoying. Staffan

Same thing happened when she was pregnant with Christian, I told her to take a test, it was positive. Same old same old! Staffan

After an easter where my wife has gotten more and more testy and somewhat short tempered I finally managed to persuade her to see our doctor, when she finished with the examination she called me and confirmed what I had already suspected, she's pregnant so now in 8 months time we're hopefully going to get our second child, I'm truly hapyy with this since she was told by the specialist that due to her PCOS she was not going to get another child. And we managed this again without any fertility treatment. I'm really happy with this and so is Sara. also a good thing Christian is rounding 1½ years here the 29th Staffan

Over dinner with a diamond ring! :music_whistling: Nah if she understands your hobby it shouldn't be a problem. When I bought mine I said... Honey I'd like this new joystick... She looked at it... Smiled a bit and said... Sure why not! (Helps to have a wife that flies DCS Ka-50 and who enjoys model building (She the only female member of IPMS Denmark... Staffan

Got the HOTAS Warthog, went from a CH setup and I'm happy with it, as Airdog stated the hall sensor is absolutely brilliant compared to potentiometers. also I use this setup for DCS: (both titles), Strike fighters, IL2 46, IL2 COD, ROF, FSX, FC2 and Steel Beasts pro PE. [sarcxasm on] I'm really sorry it cant't be used for anything besides A-10C [/sarcasm off] Staffan

Welcome Teriander, You will find a very helpfull and knowledgeable community here that are always forthcoming if you have any questions. Congrats on the child coming soon. You will experience a huge loss of time for anything but diapers and comforting a very dissatisfied child. I have a son that is now 1½ years old, he means the world to me and he loves to sit with me at my pc and play with my HOTAS Warthog or see me flying. Staffan

I normally have my games stuffed away from the program files directory, usually in a games directory... It doesn'r matter where you deposit A-10C Staffan

Never heard about that, and wasn't aware of any... But I do know that assymetrical loads can do a lot more than make you turn. Staffan

On another note assymetrical loads will make your aircraft bank, one good advice is to trim fairly constantly... make sure you don't fiht your controls but use them. Staffan
