any one got the new thrustmaster A10. HOTAS
Squid_DK replied to con3para's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've got it and I have posted my thoughts over at SimHq. Here's my thioughts about it. Well this will just be my impressions from a few hours use (been too busy trying to find an apprenticeship), I never owned a Cougar, but I did have one of the ancient gameport sticks from thrustmaster from way back when (never really used that to much since it broke after just three weeks, got a new one, same stuff happened, then bought gameport CH stuff, way back). My last HOTAS config was a CH Fighterstick, Prothrottle and the pro pedals, compared to the CH stuff the HOTAS feels sturdier, the stick is slimmer, less of a bear paw is needed, however more musclepower is required (some might be a bit put off by that). I like the cool feel of the grip and the tension in the spring on the stick, the precision is remarkable in the stick, (Have only had time to fool around in the DCS: A-10C beta) it is easy to just trim the Hog and then with a centered stick theres no spikes or any kind of drift. The buttons on the stick is a chapter in itself, the tension needed for the trigger for example sets this stick apart, also the travel needed from the first stage trigger (PAC) to the second stage (Gun). The throttle is a dream to operate, smooth as silk and very lean, also the weight on the base is enough to keep the base grounded when you lidt the throttles over the detents when starting the Hog. switches are sturdy and not to light on the touch (except for the pimky swith that is apparantly adjusted for the little finger. the microstick (Slew control) can be a bit touchy and will take some getting used to, but no worries, also the speedbrake control where the extension of the brakes is springloaded and the retraction isn't. My only gripe is with T.A.R.G.E.T. that simply crashes in the GUI mode. but again I hope this is a WIP so that a new version will evolve soon. Just my impressions and thoughts. Staffan -
MTFDark.. The pinkieswitch in question was the one on the throttle that controls the external lights. Well I got mine aswell, fun thing though, on my box it says destination USA.... well somehow SimWare got their greedy little paws on it and shipped it to me.... and I'm impressed, nice sturdy feel to it and it can take my tough movements. What's my role on the battlefield?
Squid_DK replied to CheshireCat's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
My best advice would be to take things easy, be slow and methodical, always skirt around hills never jump over them, use terrain masking to hide yourself and always be mindful of your tasking. Comfirmation From simware!!!!

Got an email from SimWare aswell mine is being sent today aswell. Staffan -
Longest maingun kill by a tank was in excess of 4000 meters in the first Gulf war, the record was set by a brit Chally 1 firing a HESH at a T-72, at that range the LRF was unable to calculate the return signal but the gunner took a shot using manual tables. Also both the Leopard 2 and the M-1A1 (And the M-1A2 used in DCS and FC2) fiels the Rheinmetall L44/55 120mm gun, it is more accurate than the british 120mm rifle, at least when it comes to APFSDS rounds (Spin degrades their penetration aswell as their accuracy) Staffan

I think Matt stated somewhere that the finetuning is i WIP it will improve in later betas. Staffan

My take on this is that simulations require a lot more user effort to master the product, as an example: Most people can pilot the default MS B744 in FSX, but if you purchase the PMDG 744 you get an entirely new and much more demanding and rewarding experience, in an effect the add on product changes a game to a sim because it simulates the systems on the plane. Same with the LockOn/FC A-10A it is a very game oriented plane, comparing that to the DCS A-10C is an enterely different ballgame. Most users propably don't know the difference but when you compare them up close. Another example would be Call of Duty against Armed Assault II the first is a game the second I'd call an infantry sim. Staffan

Bedouin, there's several danes and scandinavians here that I'm certain would bewilling to help, but do try to go over the manual it isn't that hard if your english is fair. Staffan

It will fire immediately, it will take a little less than a second for it to spin up though, the first secound of fire should just result in about 40 rnds going downrange, hence the standard two second burst. Staffan

As the titles states, I've got it (Open beta ofcourse) and fortunately I have some time to savour it. I was wondering how many inhere was going to get it and if anyone would like to do some online training. Staffan

A-10C kan "præ købes" hvilket giver Beta adgang

Hvis du har mod på lidt multiplayer træning så sig til, har lavet flere enkle scenarier hvor der bare skal indsættes et client fly i editoren -
Bedouin, Start with the quick start guide, take your time setting up the controller for the sim, then get to know the plane, learn the position of the switches and controls, learn the absolute basics before embarking on any more advanced stuff, don't let up just because you haven't gotten everything after 10 or 15 hours. get started on the manual, take your time maybe read a little then try to fly, get to know procedures, you can't fight with it if you can't fly it. Finally any questions and this place is the way to go, I'd go out on a limb and say the only dumb question here is the one you don't ask. but do yourself a favour and try the search function. Staffan

Use tasks for the unit in mission editor. Staffan

I use CCRP mode, finding target a good distance off, never below 12K feet, setting target as SPI, then a good run in with wings level, If I can avoid any nasty surprises (CAP, SAM or AAA) I nail the target every time. More or less my preferred method for JDAM's aswell (Those suckers are nasty and do the ugly to any stationary target as long as you don't rush it) Staffan

Whe Eddie said, I prefer to carry lighter loads to remain fairly maneuverable, but then I try to get as manu guided munitions with me, and if therer are moving or roving targets, AGM's or CBU's Staffan

You could also change your delivery method to CCRP then you could just do a laydown from higher altitude, og use CBU's Staffan

That's ok, hate is good for you, keeps you on your toes, besides an enemy you can always count on it's the acquaintance I don't trust! Staffan

Again as have been stated a few times before, DCS: A-10C is a DX9c game not DX11. Considering the financial situation worlswide, I'd say $60 per game is fair. it is not something you can run through in two evenings time *Cough* Mafia II *Cough* one module is not required to play another so the DCS series is more a long the line of interlinked independant games, and that is just if ED makes them all MP compatible. Fortunately I have a wife that likes sims (Plays BS and have been impressed by A-10C), builds models and also a member of IPMS Denmark, plus she isn't spooked by my sense of humour nor the fact that I ordered the Warthog HOTAS. Staffan

No Problem Tony

1. Use DCS A-10C note though that running in 64bit mode does not improve framerate it just allows the game to access more memory allowing larger missions to be made and flown. 2. in options under the graphics tab check the appropriate box. 3. HDR is High Dynamic Range graphics mode, more full coloring and also a bloom effect (though definetely not overdone) I use it and will not switch it off again. TSAA & MSAA is the Anti Aliasing. It is actually covered in fair albeit trimmed detail in the quick start guide, which is just 19 pages so no excuses, I have that printed out and lying here for when some simple stuff is required, I'm still gathering the courage to start on the section covering the CDU and navigation in the manual.
