How's multiple JDAMs handled?

I made a guide on how to do this (it assumes basic familiarity with the training material, but you can jump in it from there) and threw it on youtube as per request:

It's not gospel on how this is done, but the method I'm using seems to work pretty well. I like the fact that you can store target data in flight plans.

Cheers for that (and SFJackBauer). A good vid with a clear and concise voiceover is worth a lot and to some of us, (me included). Helps to learn procedures better than a manual :book::doh::thumbup:

I follow Headspaces video to the letter but for some reason I get a Hung JDAM for each pylon... why?

Hold the Weapons Release button down until ordinance is released (2+ secs).

I hold it down for a count of 5 and that seems to work. I hate that bright red message.

I was practicing Headspaces method (which was excellently explained), it worked like a charm for the first group of three tanks, however on a subsequent run the JDAMs wouldn't release, when I cycled through the markpoints in the new flt plan the SPI was updating correctly (I could see the stick poking out of the TGP diamond jump from one tank to the next) But however long I held the pickle button down for they would not drop.

Master arm was set to on, GBU38 showing as RDY on hud.

Any ideas?

Frogfoot, is it possible you set SPI to something other than your steerpoints? That has tripped me up before. Make sure MAN REL is showing up on the left side of the HUD before you pickle. Otherwise nothing will happen.

Thats the first thing I checked, SPI was on steer points, and Man Rel showing in HUD, I was at 15000 ft and pickle button held down for at least 8 seconds. but the dam thing didn't release. It has only happened the once though, every other attempt since has worked fine.

One thing, make sure you press and hold TMS down before beginning your bombing run. I've had that happen once or twice when I forget to press and hold TMS down.

thank you headspace for that great video!

It worked perfectly for me, but 2 related questions arose:

1.: Say I entered 5 Mark Points into my "Target Flightplan" and only need 4 MPs, how do I erase a specific one?

2.: Can I somehow send flight plans to a human wingman, so he can use it as target guidance? Sort of like "Buddy Lasing 2.0" ;)

This also works for Mavericks! First make markpoints, then cycle them, slave mav to SPI, and lock and launch all your mavs in quick succession :)

I made up a PDF of the steps required to save marked targets as a flight plan since that process was pretty involved and a bit hard to follow in the video, at least for me. Enjoy:

TY!

I was double marking lol. I didn't know the tms right actually made a mark so I kept doing that and also pressing 'mk' on the panel under the hud. Followed the pdf and it finally clicked in my head, thanks.

Now to figure out why all of my marks are off by 10-15m as posted above. I think it is because I am targeting too far out at too much of an angle.

That was a big problem I was having. I didn't know about the DMS zoom, only the China Hat zoom. So I'd zoom in using China Hat and get "kinda close". I didn't realize that once you had an area marked you could zoom in even more using HOTAS DMS. Once I had that spot on targeting was a breeze!

Now I've moved on to being too slow to mark everything and running out of time on target. :) Glad my PDF helped!

Excellent guide!!

My question is, what is the advantage to doing all that instead of switching the steerpoint dial to "mark" and cycling through them with the DMS with the HUD as SOI?

I may be missing something, but that seems like an awful amount of work to accomplish the same thing?

The main advantage is it's only a 15 page PDF instead of a 700 page PDF! :smilewink:

Basically this guide was just a step by step demo of the method that ExcessiveHeadspace had in his

. Now that you mention it, it does seem to be the exact same thing as what you describe. :music_whistling:

I'm still working my way through how weapons systems and all that works, so can't really tell you why to do it this way, just how! heh

I completely understand why you made the guide. :) Being able to create a new flight plan on the fly is useful.

My question was directed more at why go through all those procedures in the jet to create a new flight plan..when rotating one dial on the AAP allows you to cycle through the mark points the same way confused0024.gif

noted issues:

I setup a mission with tanks and my problem on mutiple mark points is that I can't always get them to cycle to the next one when I select it in the hud when ready to pickle. I think I am missing a step. I think it's China aft long, but if I don't verify that the markpoints will switch in the tgp view they usually all end up dropping to the last mark point i set. I can drop one just fine.

The other problem is after I have set the mark points and get ready to drop I see half of my points are way off.

In my opinion the flight plan method is there to organize your mark points and save them for a later time. If you encounter 2 groups of 3 T55s each that are 4 miles apart, you can save mark A-C under flightplan "T55A" and mark D-F under "T55B".

Also you have the added benefit of not overwriting your mark points when you reach Y and keep on marking.

But, when you are only attacking one group and there is little time between target acquisition and running in hot, then making the extra FP might take too much time and not be that beneficial.

The other problem is after I have set the mark points and get ready to drop I see half of my points are way off.

The "perfect" way to mark points is if you are directly above the target, i.e. looking straight down. The more you deviate from this angle- and rangewise, the bigger the designating error gets.
