ED's been working on Nevada the last 88 years.

88 years? Wow; most software developers use a much shorter product lifecycle. This shows dedication!

[/sarc off]

Seriously, the delay isn't Nevada itself (which BTW is a lot more than slapping together a bunch of brown textures), but integration with EDGE. Like the Normandy map, ED took the project of a dissolved team and made it their own (and started from scratch in the process).

I don't consider myself a kool-aid drinker by any stretch, but I do have experience with software development and I understand what ED is doing. I have faith that they are doing it the right way with EDGE, and we should reap the results once 2.0.0 is released.

The only thing that ED did in this case that they shouldn't have done is promise the Nevada map to A-10C pre-orders. This is because they were promising something that somebody else was responsible for delivering; never a low-risk move.

Well you know, at least an specific área would be nice in a modern context. What about an área covering southern Spain and northern Morocco ? A potential what if situation inmersed into the Strait of Gibraltar, focusing also in accurate maritime data and detail and giving entry to the desired Naval modules.

Because of the russian military gears. What do you wan to do with Su-XX, Mig-XX, Tu-XX, and other russian boats, vehicules, SAM.... in south of Spain ?!?? :shocking:

Please, we do need a map where *almost* all the existing stuff is usable ! It took 88 years (:D) to make a map full of static stuff, so, how long to re-do every single IA unit ?!?? :bored:

That'd be a little one sided wouldn't it? The Spanish navy and airforce versus the rest of NATO. Interesting concept! Or do you think that a 300 year old legally sound treaty can just be thrown out? In that case, look out USA, the UK wants to reassert it's ownership!

No man, not the Spanish Army vs NATO ! I mean the Strait is a geostrategical zone around the globe, and lot of aeronaval action can take place there.

But, on the other hand to start developing Naval Modules perhaps would be fine thinking on a future RIMPAC, implementing the Hawaii theatre and setting a dynamic Shipyard where participant Navies build their vessels. This would be similar to Nevada Scenery, but by Sea.

If we had a map with Britain, then we could simulate a civil war between England and Scotland. The premise is that Scotland passes the Independence Referendum, and England says no. The European countries quickly take sides between preserving the union or supporting the democratic choice of the people. World War 3 ensues.

It'll be a historic map by the time it's finished ... :D

You know how they called the SA-2 the "Flying telegraph pole", in any combat with Scotland their SAMs will literally be flying telegraph poles, weirdest sport in the world. :D

(Just in case you don't get that joke http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caber_toss).

To be on topic, my vote would still probably go to a Korea map over Western Europe, especially since the Normandy Map will cover some of that area though some stuff will probably be period specific so I suspect there won't be huge numbers of massive concrete airfields.

DCS World Global MAP System

If ED release the SDK

Hi all,

Why not a World Global Map GUI and Menu System then 3rd Parties can begin "DCS Theater Campaign MAP Development"! :smilewink:

Like for example in MS - FSX..................

WORLDMAPEXMAPLE_zpsbb9505d4.png

That would be better because we all want different MAPs geo locations to fly in and participate in either historical or theoretical wars or train in like Nevada Live Fire Training Range so on! :smilewink:

Well thats my view!

Cheers,

A Middle East map would probably best fit that bill IMHO, with a chunk of the Mediterranean Ocean thrown in.

Given the history of that region there is (unfortunately) endless scenario opportunities for the last 60+ years. Terrain would also be less complex than western Europe.

Yeah ! a Middle East theatre would work, but thus implementing a reasonable portion of Sea,including submarine environment and some ports like Port Said, and why not the Suez Channel entry.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that EDGE will work that way. Not about the GUI but with you being able to fly from one map to the next (assuming they're adjacent) and being able to download third-party airbase updates, etc. But as with everything, we shall see.

Hi bud,

Yeah, well before they release EDGE Ver 4 GFX engine and NTR it would be great to incorporate that in a similar system like that of FSX uses as per this post........ http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2147095&postcount=14

I'm still hoping that DCS will begin work on Theaters of War with Historical and Theoretical Campaigns similar to the FSX / Falcon 4.0 menu system and concept.

Like you click the nation, then click on War era the click on the Campaign mission then select an air base so on...............

More of the Briefing phase as you select the best route and flight plan so forth. Just so its more military in realism and experience rather than game type setup up.

However the concept of new GFX engine and MAPs works, it will definitely need to consider the many wishes and needs from the community wanting to fly from various parts of the world. Also the concept of War Theaters and Campaigns for DCS as a Air Combat sim, and the various training ranges not forgetting military zones.

As you say we will have to wait and see it sure is exciting and positive, cant wait lots of fun ahead folks.

Cheers,

I'd love to see Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East. Some very tasty engagements are possible with Naval vessels in the South China sea too.

Especially once we get the Hornet.

i7 4790k @ 4.4, 32GB RAM, RX480 GTR

I fly it all.
